Discussing automotive nonsense, fixing cars until they need professional help, and some car review type stuff, mainly from Jon but featuring other regulars like Greg, Martin, Nuff and many more!
It’s such an awesome thing! It might be a while before full resto commences but it will get done! The e30 has been a huge sunk cost fallacy so I need to recover from that first! 🤣
It makes me sad the yellow Volvo isn’t getting restored yet, that’s the one I am looking forward to the most. Also woolly hat in June! What is wrong with you, I thought I was bad for feeling the cold
I know I know, but I want to do it properly - it will get done in good time. The woolly hat is surprisingly good at keeping the sun off and actually at keeping my head cool - acts as insulation! 🤣
@@automotivetalesI think properly is the only way to do a car like this, you never want to cut corners with something that has that level of performance. At this rate your collection is going to end up being worth a fortune despite their run down state…… retirement plan sorted
RU-vid algorithm blessed me once again. Discovering auto-related channels is always fun, 850 is just the icing on the cake! Hope this channel grows and gets more popular.
Thanks and welcome to the channel! The 850 has a special place in my heart so while it looks terrible now, it is a diamond in the rough and will be brought back to life once more!
Great video very helpfull indeed, also appreciate the thouroughness of the install. I will install an MPE tomorrow on my 340i Touring, hence im here. Two additions to your video: to stop the rattle on the std. back box you just have to change out the spring clip, they loose tention over time which causes the rattle I've had the same on my previous car 435i it's well documented on these they do not only rattle when they are broken, vut also when tentionnis not enough. If you want to cut your exhaust its easier using a chain tubing cutter (pliers) insread of an agle grinder, as that will be always exactly straight without rough edges.
Interestingly I upgraded to a chain tubing cutter for doing a Skoda VRS, but I struggled a little so ended up nipping the last bit with a grinder anyway 🤣 it did make a much nearer cut though. Just clearing my shop and realised I still have the stock box for that 140i. Sadly the 140i was written off by the new owner 😭
Good stroll. Me and my mate did an unofficial track walk on the Friday the other year while the road was open to traffic. Got from Tertre-Rouge to Arnage before we were asked to leave as they were closing it down.
Guessing this is why they have opened it up - clearly a lot of people wanted to do the walk - we’d have enjoyed it much more if it hasn’t been for the weather! Might cycle it next year!
No, you’re not seeing things! It’s already up and running (more info in the next village). It was a lot easier to get running that I expected but it has broken down on the new keeper a number of times!
Are you sure you had 2.0 version ? 2.0 version does not have space in boot in right corner because there is a battery. But you have there Toyota bag, time 1:24 and even on left side there is a ski boot. At 5:19 trunk is definitelly not 2.0. I gues you had 1,8 version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1v2S3xLypJg.html at 15:37 this is trunk of 2.0
The Bentley is still awaiting the brakes to be sorted and the Rolls... well, I just need space in the garage to bring it back from storage! They are such huge cars is causing a few logistical issues! ha There will be videos over summer, but first... Le Mans!
Amazing, that is really a long time but totally worth its the sound of firing up that M20b25 is so familiar. Your car is definitely a Motronic, like all M20B25
That’s the one - Motronic! How’s the engine swap going on the e12? Found my old 1602 m10 rocker cover while moving workshop! Makes an amazing piece of wall art 😃
@@automotivetales slow progress due to some personal events that set me back a few days, so now I'm having to rush some jobs and skip other just to have the car ready on Thursday to be collected.
John, this is brilliant, what a beautifully restored car and fitting tribute to the your farther. I'm sure the old man will be looking down on you with pride......and certainly more pride than mine as I blew my inheritance on a long gone Alfa 147 Diesel, Jesus wept!
Thanks Craig! It's been an emotional rollercoaster but actually brought it home today so its now tucked away on my 4 poster and its almost as clean underneath too!! Alfa 147 is a cool little car... I might be bias but its no BMW e30! haha
Oooh that really is lovely, I am not a big fan of the E30 but I always had a soft spot for the convertible (I used to have a toy one as a kid I would take everywhere with me) guess what colour it was…. Yep you have the best model/colour combo !
Now there is an offer! Yes please! The Gul does live but has many gremlins it seems so might be off the road for a while until we can get a proper restoration done :(
Poor little boxster, I’d have given it a new home, would have probably waited another 5 years before I touched it mind. Loving the 850R and the v70R breaking padlocks with spanners is usually very easy, you need more practice lol
It should be easier, agreed… although I should just not lose keys 🤦♂️😂 once I got the leverage right it popped pretty quick! I do feel sad about the Boxster but its new owner will make it something special I am pretty sure. It won’t be one for the purists though
@@automotivetales That suggests someone is going to be carving the poor thing up. better than rotting in a bush i suppose. Will it still be on youtube?
His video shows "B" mode on the gear selector. That is what he should have kept it in to arrest his speed on those slippery downhills. Maybe then the ECVT would not be so "lethal". Note: In North America it's available with electric on-demand AWD. That might be helpful in the snow as well.
tried that on one of my previous trips down the mountain and it didn't really seem to work like you would expect from holding a gear on a manual, auto or DSG type semi-auto box, it just seemed to keep running away with itself. It was pretty dam steep (more so than it looks on the camera) mind you!
@@automotivetales Thanks, good to know! I am awaiting delivery of a Canadian spec. Corolla Hybrid with the e-AWD. I've been wondering what it's like in winter weather.
Are there barriers stopping you from going on at the Porsche curves? Likewise, te chicanes and the Mulsanne corner, looks like you coild take that route if you fancied. Might get in trouble with cops if they're looking. Probably loads of cops either side of the race weekend!
yeah - you have to be careful not to take the piss when the roads are open but certainly after the race you can get onto more of the track for some good photos opps, and certain mornings leading up to the race they have bits of the track open for people to park up / walk which is cool!
Glad you took out the racing oil, that was only supposed to be a temporary thing! However, I'm pretty sure the DW10 is supposed to take 10w40 oil, not 5w30 (that's the later 16v versions with DPF) 😬
dont tell me that now!!! I went via the Halfauds recommendation which was probably my first mistake! Although I found other 5W30s in the boot so felt like it was right. Well, another oil change wont harm the engine for sure... just wont be me this time :(
Really enjoyed watching your previous video. Could you please do an update on the S.Z Bentley. As the owner of ✌ two of these cars. I can relate to your problems with them !...
It’s coming soon… when it’s repaired and back home! Currently having all 4 front calipers rebuilt and new springs up front! 😬 it’s not going to be a cheap fix!
no - probably a long time ago though - that said it starts in freezing weather straight with a good battery so suspect it has been done, it was just a very very flat battery.
Honestly the only places my 944s have rust are in the battery trays. The whole rest of the cars are nice and clean. I have a 1983 NA and 1986 NA. The 86 has rust and the 83 may not..? I need to dig into that. Where did you find these spots??
@@automotivetales Ah that makes sense. They salt the roads here in the US as well. I really am not a fan of how much they dump down. Many of our cars have been ruined because of it. The Acuras seems to hold up alright however if you’re careful.
Had a Picasso for 17 years, best car i have ever had. Only thing that killed it was the dreaded rust behind the front wheels including the sills. They all go like that.
