A car channel created by car guys for car guys! My current cars include a 2017 Audi S3 Prestige, 2003 Saab 9-3 (Maptun Stage 3+), and a 1988 Saab 900 Turbo. Uploads every Saturday!
Great Video. Okay maybe it's cognitive dissonance. After watching a bunch of battery adaptation videos and OBD 11 programming I have to ask. For as "smart" as the alternators has become to sense state of charge, because of all the modules drawing battery juice, plus stop/start, why can't it just do what alternators did before and run a more are less constant voltage? Even if you don't adapt it is going to be charging the battery, not sure why even if it's the older battery and learned what shape its in why it would eventually learn the shape of the new one and maintain charge accordingly? I'm lacking some understanding there... Normal Alts are putting out 13-14 to keep the systems running and the battery charged. Are these charging higher and why unless the battery voltage dropped to the point of "needing" more? In fact most older cars even into the 2000's would run with a dead battery and a jump start b/c the alt would keep the systems working??? As for Battery longevity??? I'm averaging 10+ years...no joke, on my last two BMW's e34 and e39. old and older tech for sure. Even though the e39 relies on a strong battery to keep the systems alive. A low battery will throw all sort of odd things like the "Alarm falsing" the "trifecta of lights" as well as others. I have yet to read that if you don't adapt these newer cars (VW/Audi/Porsche), you would get anything like that. When the batts start to fail there is just a low batt warning??? Now watching these videos, I wonder since the Batt was disconnected and caused all those faults, if those, wouldn't start to present themselves with a dying battery?? My Daughters got an '18 Tiguan and I've a '21 will be buying the OBD11 tool anyway and will do the adapt since it seems to be the thing to do. I just wonder if when this technology started if anyone has truly ignored the adapted and with a quality battery has had issues with longevity??? Not sure when the tech started, but if it was less than 10 years ago as I have been reading that it wasn't common on many cars until start stop to begin. Most car with an average batt life of 6 years? most guys would just now be going through there second batt. If they didn't get the same life out of their second, they might be on their third? Not seeing forum posts claiming that; but it could be my AI/algorithm not picking them up. Also why would the manufacturer's name and the serial number play any role in the charging of the batt. doesn't seem to since just putting UNK and the date seems to work??? Biggest thing I could imagine is the how it charges different batt technology... If OEM is not AGM and you replace it with an AGM then maybe there is something there, except, most older cars don't have this tech and guys are tossing in AGMs all the time and not saying they aren't getting life b/c of the dumb charging systems????
If you don’t program it, the alternator will overcharge that new battery (which isn’t weakened like the old one was and will cause premature failure). Pro: it helps extend battery life. Con: it requires programming
At the time of filming, it did not have LED disabling capabilities, but I believe they are doing an update. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eC_ptwr__6I.html
Hey! I appreciate your teachings I've absorbed a lot of your Saab knowledge I can't thank you enough. I'm no mechanic but I've learned to do things with my 08' Saab 9-3 2t. I don't know how to reach you but would it be possible to purchase a cap for my pump reservoir that you might have kicking around? I can't find any that aren't ridiculously priced or overseas and it's stressing me out lol. If not please let me know I'd appreciate it.
@@AutoAutopsy Thank you for the response! I'm looking for a power steering pump cap. At some point and time it broke along the threading and I haven't seen it since lol (1.5years). I'll check out esaabs and see what I can find. So far, not for sure but I think that this type was discontinued. Which is why this has been so difficult.
Beautiful car! 💙💛💙
I looked up the plate to your SAAB and apparantely it belonged to a Skoda Kamiq from 2019 until it was exported in 2022. Found it a bit funny haha (Swedish plate btw)
Bro my wife 2016 x4 the air conditioner on and of button is peeling I did what you did. It came out good. I just cleans some of the loose coating and practice on an old part I had laying around. It came out good thanks for the idea. I went to Micheal’s and they have so many markers. I got one made my sharpie not the regular market it was oil base. Thanks again
@@AutoAutopsy you are such a delight to watch and listen to. so helpful. certainly now that my 900 has 9-3 sister, the rest of your channel has become full on relevant :)
Final product looked pretty good. Metallic paints have a habit of being chalky or dusty that you got. Some metallic paints also do not want a clear coat applied over top oddly. Either way always learning and came out well for a "quick" DIY. Also the mask you wore does not filter out the harmful chemicals in the 2 Part clear you have. You need a respirator rated for isocyanates, ideally the 3M P95 respirator.
You have not seen filthy wheels if you think yours are filthy at the start of the video :D And the best choice is not to go and hide the wheels by painting them black!
Big fan of Black Magic Bleche-Wite for tires. Any browning brushes away, leaving the rubber brand new like they were just mounted. Will really set off the new wheel finish. Works for rubber floor mats as well.
Unfortunately the paint stripper made some runs on the barrels. It was fine on the first go-around. It’s not really noticeable with the wheels on and car on the ground, but I’m sure I’ll take them off at some point and paint the barrels
Looks good but you should have done the barrels too. It's going to annoy you after a while, especially when you have such clean and rust free brake calipers and discs.
Yeah the barrels weren’t an issue until I had to use the paint stripper…then it created streaks 🙃 maybe I’ll have to revisit it in the future. It’s not really noticeable with the wheels on and car on the ground thankfully!
Saab. What is Saab? Saab is an infection ending up in an Dependency/Afhængighed. I have 3 now! 900 NG 1996 9-5 2001 Vector station 9-5 2007 station Hirsch performance with some extras as automatic and fully leather interior. If someone offer's you to drive his Turbo Saab, say no but thanks! Best regards from Denmark.
Try to get Ace C036 Aviator rims 18" for your 9-3. 😀 Edit: Also... for the center caps I went for Chinese ones (I don't really value center caps) and used nail varnish over the stickers because the original Saab ones the transparent cover of the sticker end up opaque.
This is what I'm doing today (though I'm doing only simple vinegar wash). Thanks for showing the whole meticulous and tedious process - of doing and redoing it. The wheels look great!
Wheels look great Jacob, After market SAAB badges look great for 6months to a year then fade worse than the originals did after 15 years. You would have been far better off wet sanding the old ones with 1000 grit and hitting them with the rest of that 2k lacquer before it cured in the can. BTW you'll get about a day or two out of the can before it cures. Watching this makes me want to do the double Ys on my 93 Aero again did them about 7 or 8 years ago and they are looking a bit faded. That said I had the Audi ones powder coated 3 or 4 years ago and one of them is f*%ked. Unfortunately the place that did them is no longer there (wonder why?) so I'm looking at getting the whole set redone ( this time in the gun metal grey) I don't envy you the task of cleaning off a failed paint job. I sprayed the side skirts on my Audi and even though I activated the can of 2K it didn't cure (dodgy can) The result looked like glass but it hadn't dried took 2 days to get all the paint back off to bare plastic to start again. The end result however was perfect and looked factory.
Looks fantastic! My experience with that kind of "dusting" effect (and other weird spraypaint outcomes) has been that it's a combination of the temperature, the distance held from the surface, and how fast you sweep around with your hand (sweep too slow and you get run, but sweep too fast and far away and you'll get flecking and powdering too). I like to practice on a junk surface the day I'm painting to dial it in. But - in the end it didn't matter - you got a great finish!
Dude crazy I remember back in 2017 or 18 when I saw the video on you first getting these wheels! Man time flies. I'm glad that out of the fleet your first 93 stayed. Kinda makes me wish i would've kept my first 93 😭 but oh well just gotta fill the void with more Saabs!
