Love this content! Just stumbled across your channel after it got recommended to me by RU-vid. Love the snap in your throw, super impressive. I also love disc golf & seeing this video inspired me to try to play this week. Routing for that elusive 900 rating for you!!
I can definitely relate. I've been playing almost 3 years and like you I feel as if I'm not only plateauing but going backwards. Plenty of zing and confidence when practice putting but during play they turn into fluttering butterflies just hoping to find the basket. I found a little extra distance a few months ago but now I'm back where I was and maybe not even that. Throwing the elusive perfect shot is what makes this game great and I'll keep coming back even after my nastiest rounds!
I like to just try new things when i slump. Playing holes trying different discs, shot types and shapes than i normally would. I do that for a week or two then go back to scoring rounds. Sometimes you find something that sticks with you.
Happy birthday Brett! I think that's totally a valid Eagle, especially on your birthday. Nothing better than getting a round in on your birthday! Glad that F7 was able to be found.
Wizard, Justice, and TeeBird 3. But to be honest, I have a bag just for travel. It’s amazing!!! It holds 8 discs and some basic needs for the course. Fits nicely in my carry on luggage. Or can use as your personal bag. Fits nicely under the airplane seat. 2 Wizards. 1 Stiletto. 1 Pig. 1 Teebird 3. 1 Justice. 1 PX3. 1 Firebird.
Hmm, if I had to choose just 3 discs. I'd probably go with a DX Aviar, Star Jay, and DX Valkyrie. They're all fairly neutral, not so overstable that I can't hit gaps, but not so flippy I can't work them. They all kind of just hold whatever line I put them on, which I think is good for a limited bag. For my run-up routine, I've really been trying to keep my elbow in position so I usually do a few slo-mo throws to get that feeling.
Good to see you posting! Those discs look pretty sweet! The hat isn't my personal style, but I think it looks good for you! I do think that D3 did seem a little flippier than your current one, but at the end of the day, a D3 is going to fade for all but the highest level of throwers. I personally like having a flippier version of an overstable mold in my bag, because I feel like I don't have to throw it quite as hard and can still get good distance. Also, apologies if you did and I missed it, but did you mention the weights of these discs? I'd be curious to know!
Awesome video man! Thank you for bringing us along on your few holes. Your drives are great and I love the peaceful music watching you shred out there 😊 Enjoy your summer and thanks for the fun time!
I hardly see you as a fraud. I love to watch your videos because you are not an expert. You are a regular, passionate player that is sharing of your experience with the game. That's compelling to me. I identify with you. I appreciate your openness, candor, and insight. Please keep doing what you are doing. Personally, I find it enjoyable to watch.
I feel like I've gone through this process a million times. I get that perfect, almost effortless throw and then try to recreate it (usually to no avail). It's like Nuke in Bull Durham: "That was great! What'd I do?". Also, the early release is almost always a sign of weak grip, but it may have had to do with the rain. Great stuff as always!
Just found your channel and enjoy your content. Keep it up! I just turned 70 and became aware (and addicted) to this game about 18 months ago. I lead with this because I need to throw a lot of lightweight discs. I sometimes try to hit the course with just 8 discs, but I'll trim it to 5 to answer your question. Pa4 (max weight, for putting), M4 (Air Spectrum, 150 gms), Crave (Fission,160 gms), Diamond (Opto Air,155 gms), D4 (Air Spectrum, 150 gms). Also, I can't emphasize how much I enjoy using a couple of pocket warmer during frigid temps. I have one inside my left-hand mitten at all times, and the other in my right pocket for between throws.
Being in the Midwest, it's pretty standard to drive 2+ hours on a Saturday to do something. I personally try to keep it to around an hour and a half. Also, love that you're including more info about your discs and why you're choosing it for a particular shot!
I’m driving from Winston-Salem to Hudson, WI next week. I’m going to try and play a few courses on the way. And while I’m up in Wisconsin, I’m gonna try play some course in and around Hudson, St. Paul and Minneapolis MN.
One of my biggest mental issues is losing pressure on my grip during the reachback, sometimes to the point where it feels like I'm letting go of it and regripping it. The ONLY thing that works for me is just hitting the field, slowing things down a bit and just do a lot of repetitions. I think the early release is almost always a result of loose grip. Enjoying the vids! Very relatable for me. You seem like someone i'd love to hit the course with.
If you are ever in the area, DM me. I agree about the repetitions. I wish I had more time to hit the field, I keep working my job like a sucker. Thanks for watching!
the difference between -9 and +1 is likely mostly putting. Not executing shots and getting punished by either OB or natural penalty of having to take an extra shot - birdies become pars and pars become bogies. There's a ton of nuance in disc golf in terms of executing a shot or being on when putting. Even something slightly off can have a big impact on your score.
All of this encroachment of new development makes things difficult on disc golf courses. Holes being removed and not being replaced for long periods of time, if ever. Baskets just being tossed aside.
Loved the comment "I play the shorts because that's what I do". Especially as an pudgy late middle aged newer player! In my mind a 600 foot par 4 is much better than a 800 foot one.
Great video as always Brett! Apologies if you've already talked about this, but if you haven't, I'd love to see you talk about the different Prodigy plastics and what your opinion of them is!
@BDubsDiscGolf thanks for checking me out! I'm not sure when I'll be able to get the home course done. I'm not rushing it. Hopefully I can get a few holes a year done. Just not enough time in the day. Lol
