I replaced my trikes (weight-shift control aircraft) with a gyroplane in 2020. I have flown trikes over 1400 hours between 2008 and 2019. I think trike was a good platform for my videography work, but gyroplane has two major advantages over trikes, maneuverability and stability in turbulence. More than dozen of my trike friends converted to gyros in the past few years. All of them have been very satisfied with their gyros since.

Gyroplane: AutoGyro MTO 2017 (type-certified)
Engine: Rotax 915iS, turbo with fuel injection system (141 hp take off and 135 hp continuous)
Fuel: Auto gas higher than 91 or Avgas 100LL
Fuel Tank Capacity: 24.8 gallons (94 liters)
Range: 350 miles
License required in US: Sport Pilot license in gyroplane category

My beautiful backyard, which I’ve hiked many times. Sad that climatologists and glaciologists tell us that they’ll be no more glaciers in Olympic National Park by 2070. They’ve been receding for the past hundred years, and we have plenty of photos which verify that. Thanks for this footage!

What is a cruising speed and fuel consumption? I'm guessing 30 knots at 60mpg, so not practical for long distances, but good for fun??? I'm just asking

Wonderful video, Henry But despite its stability in turbulence compared to a ultratrike, a gyroplane has a lot of vibration

@cameronlapworth2284
@cameronlapworth2284 3 месяца назад
@@HenryGyroLife You can do really cool things with inertia in the rotors. My instructor - he taught me to build my wood rotors was being teased about having old fashioned wood rotors. So he descended steeply from about 200ft with power at idle in his gyro hauled to a dead stop at 20ft above the strip in front of them. After a couple of seconds hovering he zapped on full power and climbed out without losing any height. The tip weights alone on a gyro are equivalent to about a tonne of inertia. If you REALLY know what you are doing you can do some remarkable stuff. Another time he did a steep approach and landed in front of his hanger dead stop and knowing he still had heaps of energy hauled in full back stick and blipped the power (quite a bit) kicking the rudder full left. It reared up on the tailwheel and did a 90 degree turn so he was now facing the hanger. He then stepped out and pushed it in (after the blades stopped), a fixed wing guy nearby was collecting flies in his mouth his jaw was so wide. Not something I'd be game to try.

Hi this is normal mine used to do this all the time. Basically the rotors had enough excess energy all pointing backwards at 18 degrees so you go backwards.
@jasonrwilkinson9216
@jasonrwilkinson9216 4 месяца назад
Yep Henry you just flared hard and increased rotor RPM then with the rotor disk tilted back and aircraft on the tailwheel the rotor thrust pushed you backwards, you did right to flatten the rotors and add a bit of power.

yeah, that's the motiv.... don't worry Henry, it's normal with high wind and high RRPM.

Its quite normal actually fun. Doesn't seem to happen as much on the heavier gyros, the light single seaters it happens all the time. Just push stick forward but you have a tailwheel for a reason, nothing bad will happen.
