Is very sad to see this "bjj for valetudo" style disapering, this is a very safe system to close distance and with good clinchwork you take the fight to the groung, but nowadays you have to traing bjj in an mma gym to kind of train this way, great stuff Sensei, I hope more bjj teachers keep this type of trainging cuz it makes bjj a very complete fihgting system for a street fight.

So does that book in your hand have pictures? What kind of book is it? I can’t preview any screen shots of the book on Amazon. I’d buy it but I’m not throwing away 80 bucks for something I don’t know what’s in it. Seems interesting

this is a great course for someone that’s interested in learning the side theory of Gracie Jiujitsu. in addition to the book, there is also a video course that goes with it. In terms of the value, it took over 10 years to develop these concepts and ideas. You were getting a private lesson into this insight.

I appreciate the reality of how someone who knows how to move with a stick, actually moves. I'm a kenpo guy and can't stand karate people move with a stick with their front leg forward. There's minimal power there. But as this blue belt demonstrates, you have more control of the stick and power when using it when it's in your power hand! It makes the defense more realistic and up to date. Good job guys......

Love this video. I am a big fan of when ppl get the concept that Jiu-jitsu/ ju-jutsu is an umbrella term or a origin point of modern Grappling and self defense arts. I read an article in a FB group (old school Jiu-jitsu) recently called taking the "B" out of BJJ it was probably the most complete and honest historical account of modern Jiu-jitsu that I've ever seen . Now that doesn't have anything to do with Kokyu nage but it made me think about it since you in your sharing the art seem to have the same approach of comparing and incorporating things from both past and present. Anyways good stuff , osu! #jjgf

I meet Professor Tony Pacenski at a recent seminar in Alabama. His knowledge and genuine love for jiu-jitsu are unparalleled. If you ever get the chance to train with him and learn from him, I highly recommend it. When I get down to the Tampa area, I’ll definitely be looking to learn from him again.

"don't have the self confidence to fight me one on one so they need an equalizer" Wrong perception going in to it. On the street there is no such thing as fair or "equal" . I know that someone who isn't skilled or train with weapons such as sticks, knives, etc. want to think they are equalizers because "your" style is so advanced and your so skilled others need a stick, knife or other weapon. If I need to pick up a brick or a trash can and smash some heads to survive and walk away I would, doesn't mean I don't have self confidence just means I'm smart and have a survival instinct. you can consider that weak but I'll be the one walking away. Also bullets work well, not weak or self confidence issues that's being smart. Having him hold the stick at the very end, good idea you "block" a head strike with a pummel on the stick that pummel will be used as to secure and "lock" your wrist and they could pull you in. I carry at least four knives on me at all times, as well I walk with a cane or a walking stick I also enjoy wearing a scarf. Every one of these items are deadly weapons I will not hesitate to bring into play not because I don't have self confidence and I need an equalizer I'm just smart, capable and want to survive a real life situation.

Yes I understand that is an issue. I am waiting for Rickson to teach them move on video so that you can see it from him. After you learn this technique or if someone else teaches you it, you’ll be able to look at this video in a much different way. I’ve pointed out all of the different elements to make this work for you.

Just used Variation 3 in class last night. It came on easy like a light switch... I've been developing an offensive bottom side for a while now. Americana from Bottom Side, Bottom Crucifix, Reverse Triangle, Kimura, and now this. My teammates have never trained with somebody who can sub off that position and with this move I doubt they'll even go for side control on me anymore.
