What silhouette machine do you use? And is the paper you used for the pocketfold a 12x12 size?
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
I use the older Silhouette Cameo machine. I did use a 12x12 size, and made the cut as large as I could.

Oh thank you so much Hazel!!! That is so sweet of you!!! Deanna, I saw another video on RU-vid where the lady contacted Dahle regarding the surface printout wearing away and she was sent a new one due to that. You may want to contact Dahle, you never know. Thanks for the review update. Still trying to decide if I need something like this or just a smaller basic cutter since I am just starting to do personal projects.
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
Hey Thanks Michael!!! That's great to know! If you don't do too many projects a smaller one may be all you need, you may want to try a cheaper one for now, and if you end up wanting to do a lot more you can always get a new cutter at that point! Thank you again so much for letting me know about Dahle. :D
@mikeguillory8996
@mikeguillory8996 7 лет назад
Good point Deanna, for now I just bought a cutting mat and a better ruler, already had the cutting blades. If I end up doing more projects I will upgrade to a good cutter like this one you have. I wish that Dahle gave some direction for upkeep like maybe using a clear epoxy spray or something that allows the grid to not wear away. Also wondering about a really thin plastic to stick on the magnets so they glide more than rub to reduce wear.
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
I hope that works really great for you! I agree it is a worry that the grid will eventually wear off!!! I hope that they figure a solution for their future cutters! You have some great ideas! I wonder if they would work!

Hi Deanna! I just purchased the 550 and can't wait to receive it I have a question about the markings coming off the face of the cutter. Do you think I could use a thin coating of Modge Podge to keep the markings on the faceplate? I've spent a lot of money on the cutter and don't want the markings to go away. Any advice would be very helpful
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
Congratulations! I hope you LOVE yours as much as I do mine!!! I have never used modge podge before, so that sounds like a good idea, but I don't really know if it would stick on the metal! You could try it on a corner edge just to test if you want to. I feel the same way about the markings!!! I know the company said they would be looking to improve that, however I don't know if they have or not. I hope your version is a newer and updated one! My ruler is still on the edge and that is all I use for the markings and that is after a lot of years, so hopefully you wont find yours coming off!

what a wonderfull craftroom! You obviously worked hard and long to get everything in its place .My freind often says "look at all the stuff do you ever use it,youve probably spent thousands,what a waste when you could have saved it for you old age" oh well what does she know, right. Few people realize what it takes.to create and your crafting room is so comprehensive ,im happy for you.
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
Thank you Michelle! It has taken YEARS!!! I started in 1994, it wasn't until 2014 that I actually had room to create a craftroom area. I see it as a form of art, getting fun tools/ craft toys, is part of the beauty of creating things for others, you need to first inspire yourself and LOVE the things you have, then you can take that love and passion and make things truly unique and artistic for others! You are investing in both something that can make you happy, and in turn you can make others happy as well! I don't/ can't put a price tag on the joy I see in others when they receive a hand made creation just for them! However, I know it can be difficult when others can't see it that way! I hope that you can do what makes YOU happy! I think it helps that I really LOVE organized things, so it helps me to enjoy the environment I am working in, and I can find the tools I need when I need them...when I had everything in bins under my bed, I had such a hard time finding things, and by the time I did, the enthusiasm had drained a bit, I am sure you can understand why hehehehe, now I can spend the time to create instead of searching! I hope you can find someone who can understand and support your collections and creations! It can be hard when you are the only one at the craft party hehe...I know how that feels! So .... Michelle.....do what you LOVE and use it as a form of therapy if you can, and try not to let other people's comments bring you down! I hope you can enjoy what you do, even if this is just for you!

Deanna that is a very good idea! Untill now thought i was being too overboard, because i also stamp all my images in a book for the same reasons you do.But my little crafting corner is nowhere as lavish as yours in spaciosness or else i would file all my clear stamps as you .do. I llove how oganized you are .

Thank you Michelle! I LOVE that you stamp your images in a book...I used to stamp them for both organization, but also to see how they would look stamped, sometimes they came out differently then I thought they would so I felt it helped! I hope you have a lot of fun in your crafting corner!!! I used to only have enough space to craft in the bedroom, using a lap desk for a surface, that was SOOOO hard!!!! Hehe, but I find that it has always been so fun to create things for others! :D

I have a couple questions for you. Will this cutter cut through laminated papers easily? Does it leave a nice, clean edge when cutting through laminated papers? Also, can you see exactly where you'll be cutting by eye? This is for if I don't know exact measurements for certain cuts but would like to see where I need to cut by eye.
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 7 лет назад
Great questions Jamie! Yes this cutter cuts through laminated papers, and it does leave a nice clean edge, however seeing where you are cutting exactly can be tricky...I find that if I put my cutter in the right lighting, I can see through the paper a bit, and measure that way to see across what I am cutting. If you have a border of the laminated material so you can see through it, it would be easy to line it up at the edge of the metal where you will cut, but if you cut inside so that it is just the paper it could be tricky. I hope that helps, even when not measuring I get a pretty good cut, but not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for. I hope that gives you what you need to know, if not please let me know and I will try to help better :D

Hey Katrina, I am really glad you like the cutter :D! how does this perform wen you need to cut stuff in total darkness such as cutting photo film for a huge view camera? does the cutting thing wobble making unstraight edges?
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 8 лет назад
I have not done that, but the blade is very firm (does not wobble) and does cut wonderful straight lines. It also has screw mounts on the bottom, so you can really secure it if you are worried it's not stable enough, however I find the metal base is sturdy enough for me.

I love the idea of the pegboard as the backing for a bookcase!!! I don't know if I will ever get to do it but it is beautiful!!! I have some peg boards leaning against the wall because I am a renter too and just can't figure out what to do with them. They are empty until I figure it out. For paper I have a store display I bought at a thrift store for $10.00 for 8.5 X 11 size papers. I love it and hate it at the same time. I am toying with the idea of just stacking my papers in magazine holders because it would take up so much less space. I have the fear that if I go with that idea and get rid of the store display I will end up regretting it. For my 12 X 12 papers I use wire grids zip tied close together and have purchases untold amounts at garage sales just waiting to be assembled. I could do my whole craft room (master bedroom, nice sized, neighbors party so we can't sleep there well anyway). It has so many different types of storage shelves, cabinets, wood look, metal, some white, some grey some light tan, some black, some are multi colored. I LOVE the all white look of your room. My dear husband just this Friday found all new black grid cubes with acrylic sheets to keep on the grid bottom of the cubes. He told me when I got home that I was going to be totally excited and I truly was. I have never seen the acrylic sheets before. The invoice says someone paid $3.75 wholesale for each one and I must have 100. He bought 45 black wire cube pieces, not sure how many cubes I will get out of it since some share sides, tops/bottoms. He laughed and told me he must be crazy to buy it since I already have boxes and boxes that I have not put together yet. I know he did it because he loves me and likes to make me happy. God Bless him, we've been married since 1973. He's a keeper for sure!!!
@DeannasCraftRoom
@DeannasCraftRoom 8 лет назад
OH wow...I LOVE how your husband is such a sweetheart!!! :D, it is so good to hear that someone else has a husband they adore! I have been married for much less time, since 2001, but I know that when we get to that point, I will be saying the same thing :D! I am truly SO very happy for you! I think it would be wonderful if you could use the master bedroom as a craft room! I am hoping that if we some day can get a place that has one, I can do the same, we don't need that much space to sleep in ;) hehe...but crafts need space to breathe!!! (I am sorry to hear it is so hard for you to get sleep though!) I love that you were able to get a store display for your paper! I would worry that you may regret getting rid of it as well, just to save space...sometimes it's hard to decide which is more important. Whatever you decide, I hope you will really be happy with your organization in the end!

When I have a hard time with them I try to stick them in a more whimsical, elegant, sort of section. Terrific video! I'm glad the Dahle trimmer works so great for you. I think finding the right trimmer is key to paper crafting. I also agree with you that professional trimmers are definitely the way to go. In the long run they not only work wonderful , but they save you money in not having to repurchase another one anytime some. I've had my professional trimmer for nearly 10 yrs and I love it too! May I share with you what I have? I asked my dh whose in the printing industry what he'd recommend after I sent back a popular trimmer that I had waited on for nearly a year for functioning and safety issues. He recommended the Rotatrim trimmer. After researching it for safety around children and accuracy; I purchased the Rotatrim Professional M12 and I love it. Its similar to yours in size and style. Mine does have a double rail to support the self sharpening blade and its cover and it does cut heavy weight paper. Like you, I needed a trimmer that could cut through stacks of paper, but I also needed to be able to cut really thick chipboard and textured papers. The price tag is hefty, but it doesn't need a replacement blade. Thanks for letting me share my trimmer with you and once again thanks for the video on yours.

I think I may have been the first person to ask about the paper cutter. I did purchase one. I am not a professional, but I have used this cutter enough to warrant purchase of it. It was a really good decision. I absolutely love this tool. It just drove me crazy when my cuts were off. I was obviously obsessive about this. I had another basic crafter's trimmer. It drove me crazy trying to get straight cuts for cards. It is a pricey cutter, but it was a good investment, since it was bothering me so much to have cuts that were off. I think I have only used it about 40 times, but just love it. I don't know if you remember my other question or not, but I also asked about the printer. You said you had just purchased a new one and gave me the info about the printer. I also purchased the printer you suggested. I had the printer about 2 months, and have just set it up today. Obviously I do not use a printer very much, but I purchased it for printing cardstock . Well here I am again for a question. I did not run any cardstock through it yet, but I wanted to know if you could let me know what weight I can run through it? Any help would be much appreciated. You were so kind in helping me out about the trimmer and purchase of the printer. Thanks ever so much.

+Melanie Henshaw Thank you SO much Melanie :D!!! It's so nice to hear from you again! I did a quick search and found it here, not sure if there is a better price: officemachines.net/trimmers/trimmer.asp?id=106&c=DAHLE-550-Professional-A4-Trimmer but I hope that helps :D!

Cute invitation. I really liked the photoshop explanation. I am guessing this would work similarly in photoshop elements too. I would love to see more things on how you use photoshop as you did such a great job explaining how and what you were doing. I have elements and really don't have a clue how to use it other then some simple photo editing.

+msmartinigirl1 Thank you! Absolutely I didn't use anything exclusively to photoshop, so you can definitely do the same in elements! Thank you for letting me know you would like more tutorials on how to use it! I will definitely come up with a series that will hopefully help! I have been asked to do a full tutorial on how I make my digital cards, and that should be a good overall look, but I will try to make some basic more simple tutorials soon :D! I would love to see you use your program to do more things!

+Sheila Williams I am so glad you asked, I am really sorry I didn't have the link for those! Here are two links that may help, one is for 50 of the premium cases, I think they are supposed to last longer or 100 of the regular. www.amazon.com/STANDARD-Jewel-Case-Carton-Trays/dp/B003JKOUJU/ref=pd_sim_23_7?ie=UTF8&dpID=21bF66PRyeL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1QD3VARJ32PSG7M0S9KQ www.amazon.com/Standard-PREMIUM-Replacement-Separately-CDBS10CLPR/dp/B0054E7MR6/ref=pd_sim_23_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41tJaXBE-FL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR116%2C160_&refRID=1QD3VARJ32PSG7M0S9KQ I hope this helps :D!!!

I love this idea!!! I did have a question that might seem weird but does this keep the dust off of your paper? I know this way I think I would be more apt to use my paper but for days when I don't craft will the paper trays protect your papers from getting dusty? Thanks so much for all your inspiring videos!!! I love you other storage ideas as well :-)

+TullylynCrafts Thank you so much for your encouraging words!!! I am really glad you love this idea as well! You have a great question, dust can be a serious issue at times! I find that it does still get dust on it, but not as often as my other more opened wire paper tray! I have only had dust a couple of times on the first paper, and I just took it out, and blew it off, but if you are looking for a no dust solution, you may want to get something with a cupboard front that closes to attach the pegboard to. I hope that helps with your decision on if this would work for your needs or not! :D

+grazie0316 I wish you could have all the craft paper you could wish for! :) I feel like as crafter's we can never have enough of the basics, paper, adhesives, ink, etc :)! I crafted here and there in 1997 when I was a senior in High school, but started to do a lot more in 2001. I think in 2004 is when it took up most of my time, from then until now :). I started VERY slowly, and have collected crafting tools over the years :). How about you Grace? HUGS :D!

love your work. so correct if I'm wrong but, you mentioned "file" that means that a file is better to cut them measuring yourself? I've been watching videos and everyone is measuring, I'm not good with numbers!

+Glitter MePink Thank you so much :D! I love to use a die cutting machine to get my invitation's cut if possible, so I love to use the silhouette! If you don't have a machine, then you can absolutely just measure it out and do it by hand. I find I can save a lot of time and pain in my hand if I just let a machine do all that work :)...I hope that answers your question!
