PERSONAL INFORMATION ===================== Nationality, education, occupation, age, appearance etc, have no bearing on debates, unless the arguements are skewed by such things.
DEBATING ======== Constructive debating requires: 1. Same standards for all sides. 2. Fact based. 3. Reputable sources back the facts. 4. Questions posed are answered.
CENSORSHIP =========== Channels which cater to specific views by restricting free speech should, as a matter of courtesy, clearly state who and what will be censored so others can steer clear.
Otherwise the overwelming majority consider RU-vid to be, by default, a free speech forum open to ALL feedback; posts, "thumbs up/down" as well as the rarely used "spam/not spam" buttons allow free speech feedback.
However the above is not enough for a tiny minority of cowardly hypocrites, who claim free speech publically, while, blocking users, deleting comments, spam/video false flagging, filtering channel/video posts with "approval pending", and disabling "thumbs up/down".
When I'm censored by such people, proactively or reactively, I RETURN THE FAVOR by blocking all accounts they control, as permanently unworthy of contact.
DRONES, SOCKS, TROLLS ====================== I reserve the right to dialog only with users who have comparable or more profile activity than myself, and to ignore drones, sock accounts and trolls.
Regrettably the style of driving in Africa was not exaggerated. During the 1970s The State Bureau & Idi Amin himself used to drive around Uganda at full speed regardless of pedestrians. However before anyone gets on their high horse it should be remembered that running down an Aborigine (Native Australian for those with a weak constitution) only became reportable in the 1960s....
My name is Jerry Workman I've seen the dogs of war 100 plus times from start to finish over the last 20 or 30 years and I've watched this up this part here where the Customs guys wrestling to his luggage probably another hundred or 200 times and I was wondering if anybody can tell me where the newspaper comes from it's on the table it's off the table it's on the table did Christopher Walken's character bring a newspaper into the country with him I have often wondered where the mysterious newspaper came from and disappeared from and if there's any extra footage out there that might show what happened to the newspaper if anybody knows please let me know
I don't know if it's intentional (I haven't seen the movie), but that's typically how you bribe a 3rd world customs agent: you just so happen to bring along some nice fresh American Marlboros and Jack Daniels which you graciously offer to part with during the search. Usually this is interpreted correctly by Corporal Whoever and you're rapidly sent on your way with a smile and no further questions, and thus can finish doing whatever nefarious and/or clandestine activity you came to that particular pisshole nation to do. On the other hand, failure to show up with any nice American shit for them to confiscate will probably make them angry and you may get roughed up and deported.
Reminds me very much of my time in Kenya in the early 80's.....The most striking memory I have however is going to a hotel in Nairobi and there was a 7' tall gentlman with a flashy bright green suit and an old school top hat who opened the door of the hotel for us and gave us a big smile as we went inside......not long after I saw my very first Russian person...lol...Lord to be young agian.
Yes, like I noted elsewhere, in the novel there are more customs officials and soldiers, the atmosphere is edgier. Only a small amount of money is actually looted but Shannon senses he and other Western visitors, one of them a priest, narrowly escaped a beating. Here the actual threat level is low but the official pockets quite a bit of money, probably confiscates one of the bottles of alcohol, and the magazine is probably MIA...
A brilliant film that's themes overlap with the 'The Wild Geese'. Ruthless, rapacious and powerful western business interests bankrolling murder and mayhem in Africa to seize her assets. The respectable men buying the devastation, of course, have knighthoods and friends in high places, just as in reality.
Well. In a way yes. They fail to put Julius Limbani into power in The Wild Geese but up pops the same actor to succeed in The Dogs of War! Africa wins again.
He seems to lose quite a bit of money here - in the novel the amount of money lost is trivial but the guards are edgier and Shannon senses he narrowly escaped a beating.
I was around 5 when i saw this. I watched ever year for like 5 years and every time i learnt something knew. It was probably easier for me to understand since i grew up during the war & corruption 80s in uganda.
