Here the actual threat level is low but the official pockets quite a bit of money, probably confiscates one of the bottles of alcohol, and the magazine is probably MIA...

Sometimes carrying electronic devices, nice watches, etc. will get you through customs in countries such as these. Rolex dive watches were worth their weight in gold at one time.

A brilliant film that's themes overlap with the 'The Wild Geese'. Ruthless, rapacious and powerful western business interests bankrolling murder and mayhem in Africa to seize her assets. The respectable men buying the devastation, of course, have knighthoods and friends in high places, just as in reality.
I don't know if it's intentional (I haven't seen the movie), but that's typically how you bribe a 3rd world customs agent: you just so happen to bring along some nice fresh American Marlboros and Jack Daniels which you graciously offer to part with during the search. Usually this is interpreted correctly by Corporal Whoever and you're rapidly sent on your way with a smile and no further questions, and thus can finish doing whatever nefarious and/or clandestine activity you came to that particular pisshole nation to do. On the other hand, failure to show up with any nice American shit for them to confiscate will probably make them angry and you may get roughed up and deported.
