I beat it once, during a family party with way too many people I didn't know, with the help of a guide. I was 8. Haven't played it since. The one thing I remember is there's a lake you actually have to jump into, and there's no indication which one it is.
Oh, good. You found out you can explore to the right of the map as well as the left. I remember many, many years ago when I played the game for the first time, I was at my wit's end at this point because I legitimately thought I was stuck and couldn't go anywhere. Also, don't forget about your healing items. You don't have to be only relying on Sarah to keep your characters alive. Heck, using items with Sarah can help you save on MP if you need an emergency Heal 2 for the range and the like. Well, I mean, you don't need to use items if you don't want to. Just reminding you that they're there.
I'm very curious what's over there. Lot of enemies in that battle though. Thanks to the other comment, I now have an idea of what the items do, which is great. The lack of item description has been bugging me.
Oof, yeah, crappy localization and butchered translation were pretty common during the 8-bit and 16-bit era, especially for Sega and Nintendo. When you play these for the first time as a youngster you never notice, but when you get older you can easily notice it. Looking into it, it's usually for the same reasons, too. Teams being cheap and lazy. They don't wanna shell out a bunch of money and resources for proper translations, so they end up cutting huge swaths of text out of the game and then rewriting what's left to cut costs and time. Oftentimes it's not translated properly and sometimes they don't even translate at all and just make up their own story and dialog compared to the original Japanese.
Peter is a phoenix he revives himself :) When you first met him, he mentioned he injured this wing. That's why he can't fly over the mountains like luke.
I'm surprised you're not using healing items. They'd make your life so much easier, and it's what they're there for. I also notice you missed out on recruiting a great character, but from the way it sounds, this is probably your first playthrough of the game, so no one can fault you for that. Either way, I really enjoyed the video. I came across it randomly, so I'll definitely go back and check out the previous ones. It's so interesting seeing someone else play the game
Cheers! I honestly have no idea what any items do aside from healing herb or medical herb or whatever it's called, and I'm afraid to burn something useful just to experiment. It sounds really stupid when I type it out, though haha. I played the first probably 10 minutes of the game when it first came out and that was it, so definitely as close to being a first playthrough as I can make it. Glad you found my channel and I hope you enjoy the content!
@@AlexIsgAEming I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I can already tell you're going to be fun to both watch and to listen to. As for items, do you want someone to tell you what they do (or at least the healing items) or would you prefer to figure it out yourself? I don't want to presume you just want people to back-seat game at you and toss a bunch of info your way or not.
Haha thanks for saying so. If you want to see me get angry and whiny, check out my Landstalker playthrough lol In terms of either stuff I've already missed, and basic item descriptions, I'm good with someone sharing. If it's more like, "there's an invisible wall in the next town that gives you the BFG from DOOM", I'd rather avoid it.
@@AlexIsgAEming Sure, if you don't mind and you think it'll help. Just for the basic healing items (no special items or the like) you can purchase in shops: Medical Herb, Healing Seed and Healing Drop are your HP healing items. Medical Herb heals for something like 10-15 HP, Seed heals for 20-25 HP, and Drop heals for 30-35 HP. Since you can buy them in virtually any shop, you can go wild with their usage so long as you have the money to restock. Healing items can be used on the active character or any characters standing next to them. Antidote cures poison, obviously. Fairy Powder cures poison, paralysis and sleep. Angel Wing casts Egress for no MP cost, and can be used by anyone. Those are the basic items you can purchase in shops. At least the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
Appreciate this! I'll have to prep my team a little better then. I would have never guessed on the fairy powder. The others seem obvious now that I read this
The control scheme is like FLashback the climbing is same as classic prince of persia. The game is tactical. Its amazing when you get used to it. Ive always loved this game.
This game is a classic and had a great storyline. I played it through many many times. This was back when passion for content and finished product was at the top of the priority list from developers. The crap we usually get today has focused on GFX and pay-to-play-more and lacks the raw content that hooks you in. The first couple Mass Effect games were also fire...
Totally agree, though the only ME game I've played is Andromeda. It was aggressively fine. But I love the old school RPGs, and while I might pick and make snide comments, I'm definitely enjoying KOTOR
I remember renting this game from Blockbuster... It was eerily boring and very slow paced. It should have been a format more like Shadowrun on the SNES..which was an amazing game.
I get up a Genesis kid, and adored Shadowrun. Imagine my surprise when I fired up the SNES version. As for Blackthorne, I found myself enjoying it more and more as I got used to it, but it's a very deliberate game. Every action needs to be done with intent, like putting the shotgun away to climb a ladder. It was offputting at first but I find myself thinking about the game at random times since recording.
my memories of this game are fuzzy, but i remember grinding this fight. i gained a bunch of levels here. current favorite coffee is 40weight "animal behavior".
At 10:10 if you used Sarahs attack magic (blast) you would have killed the evil cloud :( During your last playthrough of this fight, without knowing the mage is the boss, when you were practically dead and decided to attack the mage for the hell of it I was like holy crap is he about to win?! Lol so close. There was also a secret character you missed, I always missed him as a kid until walkthroughs came out. After you speak with Volcanon if you go out to the upper cliffs you'll see the birds are out. One of them is nesting and tells you to be quiet her hatchling is sleeping. Then when you go outside if you walk around the bushes the camera will go up to the cliff and you'll see a baby bird named Skreech jumping up and down, he ends up falling off the cliff and lands on your head. The mother flies down and thanks you. Then much later in the game a birdman will come flying into the town you're in to find you. It's Skreech all grown up and joins you. He's basically a pink palette swap for Luke and one of the worst characters in the game, so no real loss there. Speaking of Luke, you're going to notice he really sucks right now, that's because for some reason the game starts him with a weaker sword, so typically you gotta go back into Polca and get him the Long Sword. But you made it to Hassan already so you should be good with the new upgrade there. At 47:15 Kazin has so much MP now youre better off just always using Blaze 2 for more damage output. Cheers!
I didn't realize Sarah had attack magic lol. Attacking the mage was total impulse, but I'm glad it worked out. I debated about Egress practically every turn. The amount of secret characters in this game is astounding! And so far I think I've missed them all hahaha
If you Egressed at the end there you wouldn't have lost half your gold :( If you're looking to grind, there is a better fight than this coming up to do that: (Spoiler?) After the next two fights there is a fight in a cave/shrine with closer enemies but the top Arrow Launcher is the boss. So kill all but the arrow launcher and then egress. I usually do this battle until everyone is level 20.
I will try to keep that in mind! Going to attempt the fight again next episode and hopefully have better results, since a bunch of the team leveled a bit in the failed attempt.
@AlexIsgAEming also I should point out that I said in two battles, (spoiler) but after this battle there is a fork where you can do either battle 14&15 or 16&17 in either order before progressing. Battle 15 is where I suggested to grind if you wanted to.
Precious Thing is at least funny and somewhat catchy Hair dun Nails dun is genuinely insufferable in every way and easily earns the title of worst song in the game
Silver tank is promotion item but i wont tell you which character. Power ring you have to equip in a secondary screen, first confirm the knife is equipped and then the ring. You can also use in battle to increase someones attack for a few rounds.
I'll prob just wait and see how it plays out. It's a cool character design but he's just so weak. It reminds me of Pokemon on the original Gameboy, how you'd have to "cheat" to get Magikarp some experience so you could eventually evolve it into a Gyrados.
haha valid criticisms. this game is definitely more about the gameplay. i also agree about the long, empty hallways. the Souls games do those too, but they usually offer stunning views to add to the appeal
Genesis has its moments of stunning views, but I never expect them. Would be nice in this instance. At least with the vampire palace in Illusion of Gaia you saw the ocean out the window, changing colors as you got deeper. That was a good storytelling technique. Deus Ex Human Revolution uses a similar moment on an elevator to give a sense of scale. Shining Force is more like, "hey, enjoy these rearranged red dots on the wall!"
The little guy you saw on the ship was a hidden character Kiwi the tortoise that you missed. He's first seen in the jail/zoo after the first battle. Then after Galam invades you find him hiding in a building and he will join when you talk to him. He has one line of dialog while on the ship. He's a very love/hate character that takes a lot of babysitting, but an absolute tank.
@@AlexIsgAEming Yep! I thank you for this video too, because you are bringing back so many good memories from my childhood. I found the board game on Ebay and just bought it! LOL keep up the good work on the channel!
@@jmwasp My absolute pleasure! I started this channel in part to build a community of like-minded folks to reminisce about the simpler times. Enjoy revisiting the board game! I wish I still had my original HeroQuest box. Would be fun to introduce that to my kids.
I feel your pain in this Super Star Wars game. Even on EASY mode it's still stupidly hard to complete. It should be retitled Super Hard Star Wars!!! The Sand crawler level is very difficult. Especially that platform which falls into the sand towards the end, and you die instantly if you fall into it. What are the game makers thinking here!! 🙄 Anyway, in order to progress you have to jump forward quickly off that platform. It's tricky but it's possible to do. Persevere and practice, and you might just get there!! Remember to use the Force!!
That platform was a GIANT middle finger. I did enjoy it quite a bit up to that point, and honestly sort of feel like it would be a "better" game without the Star Wars branding. Thinking I should check out Empire and Jedi in the next 2 weeks as well, just to be thorough.
Yeah I couldn't agree more with you about that platform dropping into the sand. I bet many video gamers got caught there. I've got all the Super Star Wars games for the SNES games console. I've still yet to complete any of them!!
Hehe! I agree. Hmm,tough choice to choose just one. Even though they're all very challenging!! Well, as I like The Empire Strikes Back movie so much, I'll have to go for the game of the same name. I do enjoy playing this game, but I've still yet to complete it, even though I've had it for so many years now. 😆 I can't reply for a while now as my Samsung tablet is almost out of battery power. Need to recharge over night. So speak soon 👍
Sad to see the series end but that hoard night was a blast! Surprised you've never played navezgane though, but it should be a fun new experience for you
Yeah buddy, I was super happy with how the horde fight went for the most part. I don't know why I've never played Navezgane. Maybe I just like chaos haha. HOPEFULLY episode 1 of version 1.0 is up on Thursday as normal.
The house is looking a lot better! As for the rubbish outside, it's sadly a part of the asphalt, so I'm pretty sure you'd need to destroy and replace it to remove it. ; - ;
Also huge respect for wanting to put a Thick44 flag up! My boyfriend and I are huge fans of NeebsGaming and it was incredibly sad what happened to him.
Thanks! And yeah, watching the end of Thick's life through the lens of gaming was still really tough. He seemed like such a positive dude with so much energy and talent.
I did this miniseries with the idea of being ready for 1.0. I think my timing will be slightly off, but only by a few days. Hoping performance optimization is included (but I doubt it lol)
Just found your channel, and love how chilled out your playthrough is. Never seen the hoarders house before either, so gonna have to have a look out for it in the future.
The boomerang guys, the strat is to charge in at them and keep at them. Shield guys(Darknut) jump at them and attack, will usually hit them or push them back out of range to attack. This was the first Zelda game i played as a kid, and i replay it the most of all Zelda games. "If all else fails, use fire" really should be dialogue in a later town as you come across a few enemies late game, and the fire attack spell is they only way to kill them.
