My name is Russell Stannard. I run www.teachertrainingvideos.com a completely free website of screencasts to help teachers and students incorporate technology into their teaching. In 2008, I was awarded the Times Higher 'Outstanding Innovation in Technology'. In 2010 and won the British Council 'Technology' Award.
Thank you! I've heard that a student can only have an audio recording for 5 minutes and video recordings for 2 minutes at a time with the free option. Is that indeed the case?
Very nice. Thank you. Canva has always been a mystery to me, so I hope I can try some presentations out. You always make it look so easy. I can never seem to manage what you do, but....I persevere!
Thanks, Russell. It was very useful to learn that you can restrict students’ contributions to audio and/or video. It makes it easier for students to find these formats and makes the Padlet more like Flip (Flipgrid)
You can delete large numbers of emails in Gmail quickly by using search filters to narrow down your emails, selecting all conversations that match the search, and then clicking "Select all conversations that match this search" before deleting. I hope this helps.
Hi Russell, thanks as always. I wonder when you recorded this. I got a surprise at the weekend when setting up a couple of new Padlets and found I had no option to Archive any more. And a quick search told me that it’s in dashboard or trash now. Pity but I understand why they’ve done it (unless I’m missing a trick). (Btw, I especially appreciated the tip about streamlining the post field attachments).
The training was recorded before the recent update that moved the Archive option to the dashboard or trash, but I'm glad you found the attachment streamlining tip helpful!
This is no longer the process - at least on my phone. Click the video, the go to the description box - towards the bottom there should be a Transcription section with a “show transcript” link. Im on an older iPhone so I can’t copy it but maybe newer of androids can. Hope this helps
Thank you for another great training video, Russell; what a great resource! I always thought adding captions was quite a performance, this is such a useful feature and a timesaver. I like the simplicity of editing the captions.
Thank you for another great training video, Russell. I like the idea of being able to group everything together. Can the background music be added to the group, I'm guessing that it can?

Noted. I'd be happy to demonstrate how to get the perfect screen size in the 2024 version of Camtasia, as this functionality is still available. Meantime here is my latest video Camtasia 2024: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sEelmoilP3Q.html
Thanks so much for this. Really excellent and so generous of you to share this information. I had no idea any of the platforms you recommend exist and it's super helpful.
Russell, I'm a subscriber, a fan, and a past student of one of your NILE courses. You have so many teachers following you (including me). Could you address this for your followers in regard to embedding RU-vid videos in our LMS like Google Classroom, etc. When I took your course, (back then we used Edmodo), I learned how to embed RU-vid videos etc. in my learning platform. I didn't think anything of it. Now, as a RU-vidr, I'm realizing that it is a big choice of allowing my content to be embedded. I now uncheck my YT videos to not allow it. It's because I had one video on sewing safety embedded into a teacher's content on Instructables and that was further put on a larger system that might have come from an institute. I couldn't trace where it was being used, as I would have if it were on a blog. I wrestled with this, and left the "allow embedding" on the YT video, but I've changed that now. I've been told that, yes, if you allow embedding it boosts your RU-vid views, but if you a small unmonetized channel, a teacher who is paid by an institute (alot more than me) or a blogger paid by advertisers (alot faster than I am) is essentially receiving revenue for using my material in their course, but I'm not. If the teacher had written me, I might have said okay, as long as you give me a shout out, and I can see where you're using it. I now always credit people if I've referred to their work, and I write them, too. Collaboration helps content makers and everyone. Using but not making the effort to contact the content maker is kind of like using them for our gain because we are lazy. I was a teacher who didn't know any better, but now I do. I've had book authors write me and thank me for testimonials for their work because I shout them out positively. I've collaborated with other RU-vidrs online. And if I make a course and embed a YT video, I will now always contact the channel maker and ask if they would mind. I think it is worth spreading the word to teachers. I continue having my work/ideas on used without credit on social media or education courses, but the only thing I can do, I think, is collaborate responsibly & hope others will too.
Thank you for explaining Camtasia Rev and going deeper, Russell. I can imagine that with AI and technology, Camtasia Rev will soon have more features to simplify video editing.
@@ttvRussell That's interesting, Russell. I just downloaded the latest version of Camtasia 2024, but I guess with AI technology, things will move forward quickly.
Thank you for another great video, Russell. I actually stopped using Camtasia Rev a few months ago as it seemed to really slow down the export process. It appeared that a video that would normally take five minutes would take around thirty minutes when I have the Rev feature on. I actually created a video, which I sent to Camtasia support on the subject. However, as I was watching your video, I was experimenting on another screen and I really like the idea of being able to take away the background on the WebCam track. That really is quite a useful feature, so maybe I need to try again with Camtasia Rev. I appreciate that things are continually changing and improving.
Thank you again for another great training video on Camtasia, Russell. It's useful to be able to add our own assets and to be able to save them. Camtasia really does have a huge amount of functionality!
Thank you for another helpful and informative video on green screens, Russell. I appreciate you showing the lighting that you have in your home office and the green screen. I need to find a green screen that's fairly compact as my home office is quite small, but large enough that the WebCam doesn't go beyond the green screen. In other words, show anything else unwanted behind me.
@@ttvRussell Thank you, Russell. Yes, I was looking at those compact green screens, but I wasn't quite sure if they were large enough to block the rest of the room out. I guess the only way is to try and then find out.
Thank you for another great training video, Russell; it's appreciated. I'm going to take a look at the further training regarding the green screens. I'm amazed by the functionality that Camtasia offers!
Where do I find the video size slider for my web camera when using the screen recorder? I only see the options for resolution, frame rate, webcame shape, and "show webcam preview during recording." But I Googled it and apparently their should be a video size slider to make it bigger.
Hi Russel. Glad I came across your videos. Looks like there is a lot of useful help here. I was wondering if you cover anything that makes it easy to do what Descript does with scenes. It is basically a single click that switches the layout to a preconfigured setting. So I can go from an intro scene with a bottom third to a full screen headshot (scene 1), to a split screen recording/headshot, to a full screen recording, to a zoomed in headshot, and all of the above with dynamic captions overlaid on them. So basically, really easy editing. I've tried (unsuccessfully) to replicate something with Camtasia. I ask because I thought you said something like 'Cut Templates' as an advanced tool early in your video, and was wondering if that was something similar. Thanks
Yes, Camtasia does have a feature similar to Descript's scenes called "Cut Templates," which allows you to switch between preconfigured layouts and settings with ease for streamlined editing.
@@ttvRussell Thanks so much. It is good to know that exists. I am having trouble finding any reference to the term, though, and can't find any resources on how to do it. Do you have a video on it, or do you know if Techsmith has any support resources for it? Thanks so much for the response.
Thank you for another great training session on Camtasia, Russell. You have just answered my question; I wanted to keep the WebCam in the same place when I zoom in; I know how now! Thank you.
Thank you for another great training session on Camtasia, Russell. The more I use Camtasia, the more features I discover, thanks to your excellent training!
