Here are some examples of my Interactive wood machines. I have recently completed (June 2020) "Intimacy, Entanglement and Doubt." a profusely illustrated photo book about my artwork. The PDF can be viewed or downloaded in the Dropbox link below right.
It's immediately obvious that your needle won't work. Most of the motion of the diaphragm will move the needle lengthwise, resulting in zero oscillation on the paper. You need to have a 90 degree lever for the needle to convert the diaphragm's vertical (lengthwise) movement to horizontal across the paper. Look at the Victrola guy's video, which shows a 90 degree pivot for his needle.
Ah projects like these can be so frustrating because one has the hopes they'll be something fun and wild, but happen to be quite the opposite hahah Still, you made a great attempt and I applaud you for that
This description of this video contains a mistake. The program called CETA, under which S.C.R.A.P. was funded, was The Comprehensive Employment and Training Act, a federal project that ran from 1974 to about 1981. The other CETA, Changing Education Through the Arts, is a program run by the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, founded in 1999.
Thank you Virginia! I am slow to check on things but thank you for the correction. I didn't actually remember what CETA stood for and looked it up too quickly.
