Welcome to Chasing Redline! This channel is about life cranked up to 10 (maybe even 11?). It is so easy to let ourselves do the same things every day and wonder how the years flew by. We combat this by creating amazing memories and nerding out on the activities that excite us.
I’m still riding my 94 Magna. It has ruined me for anything else. I’ve owned it longer than any other bike I’ve ever owned. It is addictive. That V4 is awesome. It caused me to buy the Honda CTX1300A for long hauls. I made my Magna my own. It was Black when new, now sports a Corvette 50th Anniversary Ruby Red Tri-coat paint scheme with the original Magna logo buried in the clear coat on the tank as the original was. I upgraded grips like yours, windshield, sagglebags, Mustang saddle, stainless steel brake hose, Dave Dodge carb kit installed and changing LED glow lighting along with polished forks and wheels. I installed Mitchelin Commander II tires and really increased the handling performance as well.
Bored to 72mm and stroked to 51.5mm for an 850 classification. An 18 to 20 liter tank. A 36 or 38 tooth rear sprocket. Optional cruiser fairing with LED lights and stereo, comfortable pillion seat sissy bar and hard case bags for touring and slightly softer springs both front and rear and foot pegs moved forward about 6cm. Obviously fuel injected as well! The perfect medium power cruiser for anywhere in the world! You could also offer it in a stripped down Bobber style for city cruising!

I'm a Victory crossroads rider who wears Indian Tshirts and apparel. Here in Sweden, the Victory owners club is Victory and Indian owners club. If only Polaris would do this, you suggested. That would be awesome. Cheers
The questionable shops that I have seen become Indian dealers, I wouldn't trust one inch. Polaris needs to stick with snow mobiles and off road products.
I'll say the quite part out loud: Comparing the 2025 Scout Bobber to the 2007 Victory Vegas, I'd keep the 2007 Victory any day of the week! The only thing that's better about the Indian Scout is the power plant. And if they put that power plant on the 2007 Vegas platform then you'd have a perfect bike, in my humble opinion! The biggest downfall to the Victory brand in general wasn't the brand itself, but aftermarket parts. The Victory name alone, at the time, wasn't enough to inspire aftermarket companies to design and produce high end products. The Indian name, on the other hand, instantly jumped that hurdle! But I'm not pissed that Victory is gone, and you shouldn't be either! Most Victory owners are riding are rare and incredible motorcycle, that won't be copied! ;)
The Honda magna is a great bike, very powerful, especially given it's size, it'd hurt a lot of people's feelings on the drag strip I'll tell you that right now
I have a 98 that I've been riding for about the same amount of time. It makes me hate the clutch on just about any other bike I've tried. I'll never let it go. Either it will die first or I will.
I have a 2017 as you may be able to see in my profile pic. I added a set of Memphis Shades wind deflectors and A 13" Long Ride Shields windscreen.. Never had a problem after that. It takes a few rides to 'dial them in'.
I've changed my stock filter once and then added a Lloyd's. For the life of me I could not get the fuel pump connection unhooked. I was able to change the filter without unhooking the fuel pump wiring. I wish I knew the secret.
Totally agree with your take(s) ... I'm 6'3 and when I sat on a Cross Country Tour in the showroom (in Australia) when they were new ... it felt comfortable without any modifications ... in fact most of their range I sat on and they all felt so comfortable ... I regretfully went for a Harley Road King and even though I changed out bars, seats etc and it still never felt quite right ... all these years later I'm now looking at a Victory again ... lesson learned ...
Need a mounting video. Came with tons of straps but no instructions. Mounting mine on a Harley Fatboy. Got it done but probably not to Vikings instructions.
Im going to go look at my first bike (hopefully) tomorrow 1998 250 magna. I used to ride dirt bikes as a kid but had to get a car for work. Now im in a spot where storage isnt an issue and I cant wait to ride very responsibly and never excede the speed limit (thats a joke for anyone who bristles, im 30 years old and very attatched to my skin)
@chasingredlineofficial I didn't unfortunately, it had a lot of rust a nasty hiccup between second and third so I'm checking out a 2003 V-Star in a couple days I'll find the right bike eventually and join all the real warriors on the road
Harley went woke Guys are exploding Good time to bring victory back Indian doesn’t really do it for me Cool thing about victory they were never woke Everybody look at a victory cross country all they say is that bike is hard AF
:) If you haven't discovered the Iron Butt Association yet, I'd recommend you check it out. Might inspire you to attempt some longer rides. Saddlesore 1000 is generally considered the entry level IBA ride. Safe riding!
I just bought my fist bike few months Ago 98 magna . Great fun . Still puttering around town yet getting use to it. But you are right ,on open road pop that throttle for a few seconds and you riding over 80 . Stay safe
The V-92 cruiser is the ONLY Victory ive seen any legitimate complaints about, mainly because they were the first bikes and part of a learning curve for Polaris. My Vegas has 34k and runs like a monster unleashed even with 20 years on her.
I own and love my 2011 Victory Vision! Wouldn't trade it for nothing! Owned it for about 3 yrs now. And went completely mad scientist had it completely rebuilt from the ground up. Built engine, trans, sound system and more. This Harley Killa is ready with only around 5k on the miles. 😊
The other thing i forgot to mention is that this bike is great for young and old. As all of us are getting older and the large 800 lb cruisers become too much to handle, this particular bike at something just short of 500 lbs gives us all what we want in terms of power, reliability, comfort and easy handling.
That is a really good point. I think there is so much focus out there in media on the new rider. I think the experienced rider that is looking to downsize is an important group as well. Thanks for sharing!
i had a 82 Magna which i bought used and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't ride it for a year and gave it away thinking i was going to get a new bike which never happened. I sorely miss the bike and some are available used. But nobody does a valve job on those bikes anymore, and so i haven't ventured to buy one. It would be great if Honda would bring it back retaining the shaft drive and some modernization such as fuel injection and rear disc brakes and possibly ABS as everyone is going in that direction. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe we can all get together and put up a joint statement to Honda to bring it back which may make Honda take notice? I am game.
You do make a great point and I back this idea. The large issue is one thing that Polaris can't get out of this.....$$$. The people that designed and built these fantastic bikes are not in charge of the purse strings at Polaris unfortunately.
To me, the Madstad was instantly beautiful the moment I first rode with it. I bought my XCT about 9 years ago and I really disliked looking through the stock barn door windshield and it was also ridiculously hot. The Madstad solved both problems. I remove the hard lowers during summer months and I still find the buffeting tolerable up to about 80mph. It keeps me in check.
Honestly bringing the magna back would be insane sales. 2 Biggest reasons why people are scared/nervous to own them now are age and 4 carbs. With the rebel 1100 proves they still have a market for sporty cruisers. They should do away with the fury, rebel 300s. Also bring back 1100 shadows
Hey there. These were sold by Arlen Ness years ago. The closest you can get now is sold by witch doctors. They are the same shape but the different material. There is a link from my website if you'd like to check them out. www.chasingredline.com. Check out the gear section.
Nice vid! I have a 13 XCT also. 155k miles so far ! I still love all of her imperfections. it's her personality that comes out when im twisting the throttle on the twisty Mountain roads, and I love it!
For sure! I've done many trips on this bike. Although, I had a windshield and Mustang seat on it at the time. Chewing up miles is no problem for this bike.
@@MOUSEBOWEN I didn't have a problem and would take the Magna up to about 500 miles in a day. I never pushed it as far as I push my Victory which I'll done 1000 mile days on. This Magna does have a 1 inch lowering kit on it which compromises the rear suspension a bit but it didn't cause problems for me. Someone with back problems might have a different experience.
I ride a 2012 CCT and still have the hard lowers on. After some research I got the Madstad Victory Magnum design. the adjustment allows to set up for best protection for you and that design looks great. I purchased one size taller than the chart suggested which leaves the windshield closed the fairing at the bottom and gives you the height to hit the right placement. It helps the cosmetics of the set up .
Thanks for the comment. I agree that keeping it low helps to blend into the bike. I've really gotten use to the Madstad to the point where I enjoy the look.
The fix is blocking the airflow from below. I guarantee buffeting would be gone if you put the tour lowers back on and take off the fork mounted lowers. I have the forged bar lowers and make/sell filler plates that eliminate buffeting completely to the point that the only thing a windshield does is change airflow over your head based off the height with zero buffeting. I also tried and have the Madstad (along with 4 other windshields) with no complete fix prior to lowers.
Hey there, you mentioned that you make/sell filler plates. Feel free to pop your business information in the chat for others to see. The community might be interested in what you are using/making. Safe riding!
@@chasingredlineofficial I mainly just do it through Facebook messenger and promote them through some of the Victory pages. Not sure how I’d do that here? My last set is going out tomorrow and I’m getting a quote on how material is now because I’m guessing it’s gone up sadly.
Where did you get your smoked fork wind deflectors if you don't mind my asking? I like those 👍 I'm only finding matt black from Witch Doctors and someone else on eBay. Great info, thank you!!
Hey Greg, Arlen Ness used to sell them in smoked and clear versions. That is where I picked mine up. They stopped carrying them years ago. The closest I've found is the witch doctor version which you mentioned. As far as I can tell, the shape is almost identical with minor differences. The material is the biggest change. Hope the video helped!
Went with the Witchdoctor wind deflectors, huge help 👍 Had traded the short windshield for an 11" (can't remember the make) helped a bunch. Went ahead a got the Madstad setup with their 13" shield. Man we love it!! Rode 300 miles yesterday with speeds reaching about 85 mph a couple of times (to get around and away from a couple of semi trucks) no wind buffeting issues at all. I may turn in the deflectors in a little bit to add a little more air as we are in Arkansas today. That was our 300 mi ride yesterday. Oh and I wanted to add that we added an ultimate seat with their driver backrest and passenger backrest pad. Man what a difference that made for my 61-year-old azz. Anyway thank you so much for the inspiration, it made the bike into what it should be hitting the road. I could have easily done 500 mi yesterday and I haven't been on a long trip in over 5 years. completely love it now. The first ride home with that shorty windshield on it and I'm 6'4, just had my head knocking around with the helmet like I was a bobblehead lol.. Thank you so much for the great video, and I have shared it and other people enjoyed it as well. Peace out And be safe out there!! 👍😎
@@GregG628 You just made my day Greg! I'm so happy that the video was helpful for you and that you love your ride. I was just in Arkansas last weekend and love it down there. Hopefully you found some awesome roads to play on. Stay safe out there!
Hey thanks for asking. These exact deflectors were sold by Arlen Ness years ago. They don't manufacture them any longer. However, the same design is sold by witch doctors but with a mat black color. I have them linked on my website gear page if you'd like a direct link to them. Safe riding!
I actually sold it a while after buying the Victory. I had originally added the Mustang so my wife would be more comfortable. But now we take the Vic if she is with me. So went back to the Corbin. That Mustang was a very nice seat while I was touring with the Magna.
Bought my first bike not to long ago from the old man down the road paid 300 for a 1984 Honda magna V65 1100 all I had to do was new fuel pump fuel lines and redo my tank fell in love with her as soon as my ass hit the seat and my palms touched her bars
You're talking about wind buffeting are you talking about adding triple tree lowers or bar lowers? Thank you for the great review!! Coming off an 09 HD Ultra classic and looking at a 2015 Cross Country ABS not the touring model. I wonder if it has cruise control? Thanks again?!
Hey there! I actually did an entire video on buffeting on the cross country. Be sure to check that one out and I talk about my wind journey with this bike and lessons learned. Hopefully it gives you some ideas of what to expect or try. That cross country should have cruise so you should be good there. Just test all the button panels for cruise and radio control. Come back and share if you end up buying one and what your experience is! Safe riding!
