i watched ur standard deviation vid cause my math 1 eoy is in 4 days AND I FRICKIN DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING but it helped me so much i decided to just watch this video for fun cuz i seriously love ur teaching style like omg if my teachers could teach like this i wouldn’t skip school all the time okay this next part is a rant, like im taking 9 subjects this year which where im from is considered a lot for non ip sch and regular for ip schs but anyways im in an ip sch and my english and literature teacher is the same lady WHO KEEPS NOT COMING TO SCH like she hasnt come for 3/4 of the school year and you arent suppose to do that lowkey so we just keep getting free periods, my bio teacher just spends class talking abt random topics like his life and his cat and taylor swift, and my chem teacher just reads the notes word for word so i keep sleeping and my math teacher TEACHES MATH IN CHINESE LIKE GIRL STOP. okay im from sg and my sch is an sap sch which basically means everyone can speak chinese and higher chinese is a compulsory subject BUT IM FAILING. so y r u teaching math in chinese please omg teach it in the language ur suppose to 😭😭
Excuse me, for your last example, if we calculate by hand we got distance of of each value are (l3-5l + l4-5l + l6-5l + l7-5l)/4 = 1.5 why is not the same value with 1.58 that from we use SD equation
This explains the behavior we want, but the particular correction value. Why n-1 and not n-2 or n-3...? How do you know the n-1 is the right correction? You showed the result where the STD is low, but not why it is low, so maybe the reason for n-1 is in the reason for the deviations to be exactly that low.
This is hands down the clearest and most intuitive explanation that I've ever encountered, whether on YT or in print. It has always surprised me how folks who normally do a great job at explaining statistics in plain language, when it comes to this particular question, either just evade it or resort to mathematical formulas that I bet look obvious and crystal clear to the inititiated but won't help those who only begin to learn statistics and are simply curious about the details of a notion as fundamental as SD. You, sir, did a great job here and I will be forever grateful to you for this!
I m a teacher. Just wanted to learn basic statistics. Went through many peofessionals' courses & ofcourse learned basic ideas. But this tutorial is best of all on grounds; clearifies the philosophy behind the ideas in simple words, teaches how to teach these ideas, the expressions are best of all as they cary meanings. This is what I've been looking for for very long. Thanks dear you're teacher of the teachers. With respects from Pakistan
Great explanation! This is a hard topic. Somehow mathematically we divide by (n-1) to make our sample standard deviation less deviated from the population standard deviation.
This is not correct. A p value is actually the probability under the assumption of no effect or no difference (null hypothesis), of obtaining a result equal to or more extreme than what was actually observed. So, for example, a p value for two tails is not 0.25 but 0.5, because you have to include the probability of equally likely events (two heads) and that of more extreme events, that in this case is 0.
