I understand your side sir, I have the decked system in my Tacoma and I love it I’m an HVAC tech so I put a good amount of service tools in it I want to get a camper next so I can take my power tools (Milwaukee Packout) with me and then I’ll be golden Then after that I’ll get a little small trailer
I thought Overlanding was different from truck/car camping by the fact that you're going actually offroad! Places a standard truck or car or Camper could not go. My Trd OR is stock and I'm building a custom platform for an RTT . Racks make no sense in North America unless you live in Southwest maybe? My set up is more for KOA's and Nascar Tracks regular camping without trailering.
I have a 2019 i dont doo off road it has 54k miles and its been doin a. Cracking noise when i pull out either reverse or foward…didn’t doo it for 2 yrs. Suddenly I migth trade it for 4 gen
I think where 208Tyler lost me was by stating that it "isn't a hobby"... I mostly say I adventure or explore (and youtube it) but who is anybody to tell me what my hobby is? If I want to say driving around checking out cool stuff in my jeep is overlanding and it's my hobby then he can just accept it. If he wants to say he needs more to make it a hobby for him... cool. We all need to just quit worrying about labels and go do cool stuff.
You should consider converting your dirty/messy cartridge oil filter to a spin on oil filter; i.e. a Baxter Performance adapter………..worth EVERY PENNY!!👍🏻👏🏻
I put them on my fj 2 years ago , they are the best for overlanding a perfect balance between off road capabilities with soft ride they are softer than stock shocks
hey man I've been following your channel for a little while now, i appreciate all the effort you put into the videos and I'm hoping that next year sometime ill be able to get a 2020 Tacoma. I do have a question, however, what Tacoma should I get, the sport or the off road? I'm planning on off roading quite a bit and going on some adventures but I'm not totally sure if I would need the rear diff lock. What do you think since you have the sport? I know you made a video on it a year ago now I think but I'm just curious to see your view point now.
Hey thanks! I think it depends on what your goals are for the truck. If you plan on heavily modifying the truck go for the sport, if you want an out of the box good enough off-road experience go with the off-road. Over the years of me owning my sport I have never encountered any obstacles that made me say "I wish I had a locker". I've also never been stuck. That being said the off-road trails within 4 hours of me are not demanding at all.
In sw pa I’m glad to know what to set my sights on for suspension. I plan on adding bumpers and stuff eventually. Still have to try to get together, my girl has a bad schedule right now but hopefully I can get in touch and try to plan something at some point. Do you like fishing? I just ended up getting a kayak and would love to do a fishing/camping trip at some point with the taco
I have had Dobinson's MRR's on my 2nd Gen Tacoma for about a few months now and have really liked everything so far. I have Solo Motorsports Upper and Lower Control Arms as well as Dobinson's 2" quickride lift for the rear. I referenced your install video a few times when doing mine too so thanks to you and your Dad!
I don't agree. People waste lots of money on all kinds of ridiculous hobbies. Building a truck out to be kinda like a survival rig isn't really a waste of money, in my opinion. If anything, it's made me a person who thinks more about preparedness, especially in these un sure times with the election comming and what not. So I'm pretty glad even if the truck doesn't help in every scenario, it has changed my mindset in just wanting to be more prepared for more than just overlanding/exploring. Also, it puts me in a good mood every time I see my truck. So ya, not really a waste of money... Your truck looks great too btw.
funny how you did not look at the exspensive ones hardly at all looking for cracks. and that you stopped on top of the cheap ones but didn't on the exspensive ones. clearly you were trying to show they are bad. talk about a clear show of what brand was paying you.
i run rtt decked tool box with 200lbs of tools, a plasma, portable welder, carry ball joint press, carry xtra drive shafts and joints, and much much more, all on a diesel gladiator on 5” lift and 37s, im a serious overlander not a car camper like most, my rtt works great, and fast and my vehicle is set up properly to handle a ton of weight and can still knock out a trail like steel bender at moab fully loaded, or and 1000-2000 mile overland run on serious trails, and have the ability to help the ding aling car camper that gets way in over his head trying to get his Subaru outback deep off road snd finds out quickly that he bit off way way more then he could chew your kinda missleading on being as preped as you can afford to be
You’re right about overlanding RU-vid creators like to hype it up but in reality it’s a joke because Reality of overlanding they are some dark sides that you need to know about before you do it because I’ve been there and done that
