Barely a week later on the morning of New Year's Day 2005 the 10th Doctor while staying in the shadows chats with Rose Tyler - happened whilst Number 10 was doing his grand Godd-bye to everyone - The Music Loving Klingon...
The scene between the doctor and susan fooled big time especially when she said she was dreaming i thought she was running from someone like the 8/10 doctor in human nature using a fob watch
It's Mel or Melanie as she's sometimes called. I'll be curious to know what you think of her in Classic Who lets just say shes very challenging in that one and it completey diifferent to what she is here.
I genuinely had chills watching this one, I adore it man! It's a great reveal and great build up! Couldn't get enough. Going to be honest here, and this is SO small, like atom sized, but... I'm missing seeing the Doctor adorn the long trench coat, unique clothing. Like seeing the Doctor in the brown coat and blue pants reminds me that's their identity and I kind of miss that. I don't know, that doesn't take away from the episode's impact. Really good stuff, Season 14 has been amazing.
I started watching your journey when you had only just begun it. Now we have Sutekh back, and you’re literally one of the ONLY reactors to know what that even means. It’s honestly crazy to see how far your Who journey has taken you. I think you’ve technically seen more of the Classic era than I have at this point. As a fellow fan and reactor to your reactions, I couldn’t be more proud.
"Doctor Who" actually was said in the first episode because of Susan. The junkyard where they landed Idris was the "I. M. Foreman" junkyard. Susan's fake last name was "Foreman" at Coal Hill School. When two of her teachers followed her home, intrigued by her unearthly intelligence in class, they were introduced to The Doctor and one of them said "Nice to meet you, Dr. Foreman." The Doctor replied "Doctor Who?"
Yeah her soldiers are red shirts any time the doctor is around. Lives are lost around the Doctor. She respects him but is trying to keep her men safe. She is a good leader. She cares
Mrs. Flood could still be Susan. The Doctor tells Ruby one of the reasons a Time Lord can change is to "hide away". Mrs. Flood says, while she is hanging up her coat, "I feel like I've been hiding away forever sometimes". Or something like that. Susan can also be "one who waits", because The Doctor literally locked her out of Idris and abandoned her in the 22nd century. He did it out of love and so she could be with someone. But, still look at it from her viewpoint.....
I think Sutekh and the Beast from Satan's Pit are one and the same. Same voice actor and both were called Satan and the Beast by the Doctor. When Tennant asked the Satan's Pit demon what devil he was he said, "All of them." And the devil image in Satan's Pit looks like Sutekh's old classic who design. Both possess the same powers as well.
I was hanging out to see your reaction at the reveal, hoping you had seen Pyramids of Mars. You did not disappoint!. As an aside, seriously have look at the behind the scenes video for his episode. The scene in the time window was originally supposed to be all green screen. The VFX team did some amazing work on actually creating the scene so the actors could see it, and it could move with the camera without the expense of Star Trek's AD Wall.
The Tardis legitamately frightened me this episode. I thought for a hot second that the Tardis was an imposter machine that had been replaced during Wild Blue Yonder. But that's when Sutekh decided to hitch a ride and wait until the road got less bumpy ti reveal his bad doggo nose.
It's a shame there are so many viewers who are unaware of the history behind Sutekh. He is the perfect big bad to bring back; The Doctor was essentially powerless against him the first time they met, eeking out the win by pure luck.
Tegan,Ace,Jo,& now Mel are basically your River Song. Can't wait to watch your 4th Doctor review. Can only imagine how long that's taking. I was hoping it was Susan. That would have been awesome. Sutekh was not on my list of possible returns. 49 years since he menaced the Doctor. I kinda want to watch Pyramids of Mars again. Can't wait for the finale
I was expecting the Black Guardian - who I think would have fit the setup better than Sutekh - but he never got a performance or script that made him iconic the way Sutekh is. An observation I saw made elsewhere was that the focal point of Sutekh's prison back in Pyramids of Mars was a ruby.
Of the members of the Pantheon of Discord mentioned here, the audience (and The Doctor) has met five. Sutekh, The Toymaker, Maestro, The Trickster and The Mara.
I feel bad for all the people reacting who have no idea who Sutekh is lol. I really hoped they'd bring him back as the main evil god and this was perfect! It's also great seeing Mel get more screen time! You haven't gotten to her yet but she doesn't get anywhere near enough in classic who. It's really like she never left the role tbh.
I do find it a little weird to be so against Triad being Foreman (but not fully unreasonable or anything), we were given the TARDIS anagram too and a clear sign that Susan Foreman is going to be involved in some capacity, so it was never just the name Susan. (Also like, no reason it couldn't still be a Chameleon Arch) I stand by that even after the end of this episode, we still don't know Susan Triad's true deal, even if it now seems more likely that if Foreman's hidden in this story somewhere, it's Mrs Flood, not her (Doc: "Time Lords can regenerate their faces, it can save us from death or we can use it to hide ourselves away" almost the very next scene, Mrs Flood: "I'm always hiding myself away". Also the 4th wall thing)
I really like the switch up from the tardis being the safe place the doctor always makes it out to be- but sometimes, there is something that turns the tardis into part of the horror. It really cements the fact that they have no safe place unless this creature is stopped.
*me watching* "Its the beast" omg its the devil back. "gabriel woolfs voice" omg it IS the devil back. "Sutekh" OMG. that one line from carla, saying "its the beast" was genius writing in my opinion. I may have worked out it was sutekh. But because of that line, i thought they were teasing the devil, voiced by the same man. And that made the sutekh reveal that much more shocking and amazing
I have to admit I'm not big on the new CGI looks. I thought Gabriel Woolf in a robe and Egyptian Mask was FAR more terrifying way back in Pyramid Of Mars.
The new Tales of the TARDIS episode will be dropping on Thursday. And it sounds like it’ll be a connective tissue between this and the next episode. So you might possibly need to find a way to put it into your schedule before next week's Doctor Who reaction. 😅
The second I discovered who the 'big bad' of this season was I could not wait to see your reaction, aside from the fact that your reactions are amazing, you're one of the few RU-vidr's familiar enough with classic Who to know who Sutekh is, I honestly expected you to lose your mind way more than you did BUT maybe that's just me as a massive Sutekh fan 😂 Sutekh's return reminds me of when The Master was revealed in season 3, nobody really know who he was... Sutekh is 100% being launched as the new "greatest threat"
Man, I wish I liked this episode more. I mean, as a great Classic Who lover, I was super excited about the mention of the Mara (perfectly timed with your recent reactions) and, of course, the return of Sutekh (complete with Gabriel Woolf's voice). But the episode just fell totally flat for me. To me, it was just sort of a clusterf*ck of nonsense strung together haphazardly, going in way to many directions at once. And worse, with RTD's poor reputation for endings, my hopes are not high for part 2. Oh well. At least there's some people who've now been introduced to Sutekh and might go back and discover the awesomeness of 'Pyramids of Mars'.
