Very practical and helpful video, thank you mate. I’ll be moving from an Audi 8Y RS3 to a PDK GT4 next year and this video really helped with confirming what options are and are not important when living with one in real life. Looking forward to some videos on the exhaust upgrades - lack of sound is one of my biggest gripes with the new gen OPF RS3’s
We have now fitted the SOUL decat headers, Milltek OPF delete and retained the Porsche rear silencer. Having tried every single combo, this for me is perfect set up, with some great power gains. Peak Torque 346.6 ft-lb / Peak Power 463.4hp.
the Porsche clutch is junk (well documented all over the web), and it actually started slipping at 5k miles. When we removed it to replace it with the 9m, I could not believe how bad the quality was. It was literally dropping to pieces in my hands.
Nice info. I got my 718 GT4 PDK in January. I got the PADM error a week later. Warranty job (£1987). I test drove a manual and it was ok but not in the same league as the PDK. I don’t get why people say it’s not engaging as you can use the flappy paddles to get plenty of engagement, especially on track. I did my first trackday of the year in it on Saturday and it was definitely engaging! Don’t agree with you on the PCCB as I find them fantastic. Consistent with no fade at all after many laps. I get that it’s personal choice though. I’ll follow you as I’m curious to see your mods that you are planning. Good luck with the hill climbing.
I had to get mega heat into the PCCB for them to perform anywhere near as effectively as the steels that I run now with endless pads and fluid. Leading the championship with 4 rounds left! I'm loving the paddles!
Great transparency on costs and a really insightful video being a Cayman fan myself. Also, great to know about the artic grey as I thought that was exclusive to the GT4 RS. Happy miles ahead and thank you for the video 👍
Arctic grey was made available as a premium colour shortly after the RS was launched, but not long after, ceramics, buckets and PDLS+ could not be spec'd, which made the car a lot less desirable. So there are not many arctic grey in circulation. I jumped all over this one, cause it has a great spec. I'm gonna do a walk round vid when it stops raining!
Enjoyed this and congratulations on your new PDK. I too have the PDK and have fitted the JCR back box which changed the experience considerably. It’s mainly used at the ring but has done Oulton, Snetterton, Blyton and Donington which was a blast. While the exhaust sounded good the game changer is my new tyres. Having finished the Cup 2 I wanted to try the A052. Simply they are incredible wet or dry and if you don’t have them, are allowed to have them for sprints then you’ll love them. Don’t last long but grippy down to the canvas:) Have a good season and why not bring it out to the ring!
First thing I did was fit A052s. I won't use anything else. Milltek OPFs and SOUL Decat Headers are being fitted when the OPFs get delivered - est 2 weeks time...massive gains for a NA.
I’ve just bought a GT4 PDK and totally agree, the PDK is phenomenal and was my pick between the manual and PDK. Totally disagree with the ceramic brakes comments, they are epic and the steels really struggle when driven hard. Also, you talk about lack of warranty on the 991.1 gt3 but then you say the opf/manifold mods close the power difference- that also invalidates your Porsche warranty….so in the same situation should a fault arise. Epic cars, enjoy
The difference is, the 991.1 GT3 engine blows up, even the G6 iteration is now failing, as is the bigger deplacement 991.1 RS 4.0 version, so running one without a warranty is a massive gamble. The GT4 engine does not blow up, which is why I don't care about invalidating the warranty, because it's far too compromised standard for track / hillclimb use, which is what I'm using it for. Just about everything standard is being replaced. Porsche ceramics are hopeless. Brakes are being replaced with PFC system, same as the cup cars. Insane braking power.
I understand all the reasoning behind it but, going pdk is such a sellout when discussing real sports cars; I know, everyone does whatever they want with their own money but, at this moment, I never drove a double-clutch that would feel remotely as engaging as a decent manual...faster yeah, but if you're not a professional racer in a professional racing series, who gives an f?! That's why manual cars are dying...because ppl keep coming up with motives to do the change to automatics..and that's just sad.
@@kingkobetha8thI’ve driven manual sport cars all my life, and the GT4 is not a great manual car, because of how Porsche have engineered it, for the reasons I have explained. Silly gear ratios and a poor clutch. My old manual Lotus’s were spectacular.
I feel the PDK fits these cars perfectly. High revving and fast shifts make you feel like an FI driver on the track or just ripping around town. Adding a good X pipe exhaust like JCR, BC Fabs or Kline (my favorite) really takes the experience up an notch!
@@gt4rcathink maybe your clutch had something up with it hence the feel/hang. Gearing wise, for track work no issues from me, for small tight tracks I have my short geared K20 Elige. The gearing on the GT4 for Silverstone, Spa, Ring etc is near perfect. Last point my PCCBs on Pagid RSC1 are silent, even on road after hard track work. Agree with you on the 991.1GT3 and RS. Ticking bomb.
it's crazy to me - as an s2000 owner - that porsche guys will put a Milltek exhaust on their car. They're known to be low-mid level exhausts within our community; unless it's a completely different company.
Im looking to buy my first Porsche soon, haven’t decided between the 981 GT4 or the 718 GT4. I only want a manual. The interest rates at the moment are really putting me off at the moment, I’ll need to put down a substantial down payment of around 50k to save paying crazy monthly payments. You got any tips on what I should be looking out for when purchasing? What to avoid ect…
@@BrainFuck10 Just prefer to have more money to invest in other assets and not on a car, but bigger deposit for this will be required to counter rates.
You can get 8.9% PCP as long as the invoice price is £89,999 or less. Don't pay Porsche rip off rates! But honestly, I would buy a GTS 2.5T for £40k and stick on GT4 aero. Those engines can do 500whp just from bolt ons and an engine/PDK remap. They are a LOT faster than any GT4 for half the layout....
The car is roughly worth my current PCP settlement, so that works out around £50 per day (interest charges + depreciation). Bargain for such an amazing car that has given me so many great memories.
Great video mate. Question, does the OPF delete void the warranty? AIso how much better does it sound? I’m seriously considering it but worried about the warranty.
If you’re worried about the warranty, I wouldn’t buy one. The car is far too compromised stock. In fact spending all that money on one and keeping it stock just makes no sense. It has a horrible exhaust system that’s holding back a huge amount of available power and the sound is just embarrassing. The stock suspension is not fit for purpose either. Had the shocks on the dyno, absolute junk and the spring rate is ridiculous. Far far too soft. Even simple things like fitting massive brakes with non braided brake lines is just a joke. They just over cook and stop working. Mine are HEL with SRF. Car needs a lot of modification, otherwise it’s just something to pose in that you’ll soon get hoovered up in. It’s too slow and handles like a turd.
Hi, great video & lovely car 👍 Apologies for late comment, just found you on Utube. I’m just looking for a used one at present, or a GTS, but wondered how you get on with speed humps as the nose is quite long & very low. I’m from Sheffield so might join your group in the future if and when I get a car.
Mine is on Nitron suspension and lowered 30mm. It catches on everything, but hey, its a track car, its gonna get battered underneath, but its mostly modular plastic sections, so areas can be replaced. On standard suspension, not lowered, it never caught on anything. In fact, the 992S front lip is closer to the ground than the GT4!
Hiya, I am a bit late to the party as this video is a year old but I have been trying to hunt down ‘genuine’ reviews of the GT4. For some reason RU-vid makes it difficult. Most of the reviews are someone who had the press car for an hour who are normally bought and paid for. I wanted someone like me who owns the car and has genuine reasons for reviewing it. I will be buying one with a few thousand miles in 2023. I am 90% sure it will be the chalk with black wheels which looks stunning. Back up is the black, but I have bought a few black cars over the years and I am not so sure. I get looks/colour are subjective. I can’t make my mind up whether to go down the manual or PDK route, so it was interesting to hear your views on both(I will drive both obviously). I have a Ducati Streetfighter, so I have that for gear changing duties. I do the odd bike track day but I have no intention of taking the GT4 on track. It will be a second car for a bit of B road thrills/touring. Anyway I have enjoyed your videos. We are about the same age, like our bikes and I live not too far away in Cheshire - so I can relate - cheers!
they also sell a strong 7075 aluminium wing risers, the saltero ones i used had a dent on them and they were not strong as these. please give a review and compare your Nitron suspension to the oem and how they differe in adjustments.
@@gt4rca I from Outwood/Wakefield originally so it's not only good to see a skilled and articulate Northerner putting out great content but nice to see the routes etc. you're taking. I am hoping to join you at some point when I bring my GT4 RS over later this summer.
I just think of the ebrake as pushing the calipers onto the disc when I push it downwards. Why you booting it anyways with a hot drink in the holder...? It's bound to go all over. I'd stay clear of open drinks when you're wanting to drive in a "spirited" fashion. 👍
Thanks for this - very informative. What's your view on the ride quality on UK roads? I've tried the GT4 and GTS 4.0 on a track at the Silverstone Experience and that's billiard table smooth so they both felt OK - albeit a bit more taught with more control in the GT4. I'm keen to know how they feel on a normal road. Also, I've heard the clubsports are a bit noisier because the roll-cage can channel more noise due to it being directly mounted to the chassis. Not sure if that's true or not.
It’s primarily a track car and I only take it out on decent roads, plus I’ve replaced the suspension for Nitron - 700 weight springs, OEM is 400, so it’s a lot stiffer/harder, handling is now incredible.
I've got a GTS as a daily & it is epic I've also got a tuned golf R, the Porsche is comfier & better to drive in every way possible The cup holders are shit tho 🤣
New subscriber, found you via Max Revs. Another Wakefield lad with a GT4, I'm back in Yorkshire this Summer with mine and would definitely love to hear the routes you'd recommend and maybe meet for a drive out.
@@gt4rca thanks. Joined both. Thanks for letting me in the FB group, I know technically I don't qualify as a non-Yorkshire resident. Looking forward to a run out with you all in the Summer.
Hi Richard, I stumbled upon your channel a few days ago. I watched all 3 videos. I wanted to tell you I think you are doing the universe a big favor. These are great videos. Clear. In depth. Information for real car owners from real car owners. Good for you for transforming your SEO skills that you mentioned into a beautiful present in the car. Keep it going. Love the videos. Don't stop! Go go go!
Thank you for your video, it’s refreshing to see a vlog that is so transparent and genuine. I was on the fence between 992 base or 718 GT4. Think you have helped made up my mind.
Coffee is to be drunk with the cup sitting on the back wing. Like in the Chris Harris GT3 last drive before winter video. As a GT4 owner I agree with you regarding the handbrake. I screw it up every single time. But I love that car.....
