I recently was having issues processing a set of images I had been looking forward to capturing, and of course who is the first person I turn to? RIP Alyn.
Sadly passed away. "In a post on his Instagram page, his parents said he had a pre-existing condition which had weakened his immune system and he died after a gall bladder infection spread rapidly."
For those still around... The filter issues mentioned with the full spectrum mod, is that when using regular lenses or also when mounted to a telescope? Full spectrum sounds like the best around option, as you can play with filters to get what you want. Would probably cost a bit more since you're buying several filters too.
Can anyone help me in achieving an HDR edit of the moon in Gimp? I tried this method here and several others that don't seem to want to work. Any Gimpers out there willing to share their workflow?
i am little confused here, when we take a photo like milk way, in the camera it doesn't look like full brughtness and all things so wat we have to do after it
Man I kept wondering why he hadn't posted a video for this month, and I just realized what happened...... been watching his videos for 2 yesrs now truly a great and passionate man. May he rest in peace we will miss you 🫡
According to Nebula Photos, lower ISO does not decrease the noise. Lower ISO does increase the dynamic range but typically, according to him, you want the lowest read noise for your camera. Photons to Photos has charts. He has a video about all the basics of astrophotography titled “Tracker vs. No Tracker for ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY (Shooting the Pleiades)”. I’m just starting out so please double check things cause I sure don’t know.
Went to mt Teide on Tenerife last week. Looks like this photo is from there? Anyway, I thought about you and your video's while driving there alone. It was an amazing experience, since I've never stargazed on my own in the middle of nowhere. Now I'm going to use this toturial to blend the photo's I made. Thank you for everything, rest in peace.
I just shot my first Milky Way last night. I thought of you the whole evening as I finally put everything to use that I learned in your fantastic book, Photographing the Night Sky. Stacking was seamless after following this Sequator tutorial. I have learned so much from your countless videos and was so sad when I heard the news of your passing a few months ago. RIP, Alyn. Thanks for everything 🙏❤
I had no idea anything had happened until I saw the comments on this video... I am so saddened by this news... Alyn, thank you for all you did for this community and for being an inspiration to us all.
Returning seriously to the hobby after an absence of about 40 years, I have a lot of catching up to do, especially with the equipment. Thanks for sharing your setup and your experience with the various accessories. This is the clip that got me to subscribe.
It was people like you that inspired me to learn more about the night sky and photograph the stars. Thank you for allowing me into your world and selflessly teaching me and many others. You will be missed.
Oh damn! Just found out about his passing reading the comments. 😥 One of my top 5 astro guys here on YT. RIP Alyn. I hope the view you have of the cosmos is even greater than I believe it is.
Rest in peace Alyn ! You inspired me for getting into astrophotography, i was just thinking about you right now and wanted to write something in memory of you. ✨🙏🕊️
The flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. I miss your monthly updates. Shine above with your beloved stars, Alyn. Your videos remain an inspiration for us. Good Luck and Clear Skies.

With the May 10th and 11th auroras, I wonder if this comet could be seen at the same time. Even if not, I'm sure Alyn would have been thrilled to photograph dawn in the north. Now he has an even better view.
