Come and watch some speedpaints while we chat about fun art-related topics and learn some new things together. I'm Sajiri! I'm a fantasy artist and special education worker from Australia. I am currently working on my own webcomic called Dawnkeeper that will be released later in 2024.
Your point about preventing art block being better than getting stuck in it and how to do that was very helpful! Maybe for some people it could help to try and find out what got them into making art in the first place and go from there, if they're stressed out from drawing a lot that doesn't share their own likes.
I'm very much into RPGs and gad that idea not for a complex story, but rather comic stripes RPG and CRPG related. There's a bunch of antiheroes called "Order of the Onion". And boy, ther're bad! Scoundrels. Valking evilnessess. Their goal is to make the world a worse place to everyone. Since most of their adventures would start in a tavern, I could give some of my characters a rest, introduce someone new from time to time, make fun from a goody-good-good parties... But making a comic is a lot... A LOT of work. And to be honest, I'm more into polishing one individual portrait or illustration than making a comic.
I saw a year ago how good at rendering AI became and I felt like... What for am I practicing? What's the point? It will take me years to catch up with this quality. But it didn't stayed for long. Facebook gone floaded with AI stuff and quickly I was able to spot it's articicial. All the same female faces, stupid anatomy or perspective mistakes, and Ai prompters... Gosh, every mistake pointed at the picture the've been posted - the tooked it personally. Now I'm just tired and bored with AI. Left all groups floaded with this crappy data and focused on improoving. Hope it pay off soon.
Remembering of the environment the character came from <3. The early 2000 female designs... Ugh... I do love Dragon Age series, but do you remember when we first meet Morrigan? She wears a bra and this shawl-hood thing. Living in deep woods... I'm also Witcher's series fan and Triss Merigold's design made me just sad.
Great ideas for expanding imagination and creative thought! Remember that our experiences need nourishment to enhance our imagination, so that comes with time and exposure 💪
My friend and I had a conversation about this recently! Gatekeeping fandoms and things as "for kids" is so unfair, who says we have to grow up and do boring things when we get older? I've enjoyed seeing recent things on my feed of artists redrawing their children's drawings and turning them into epic creatures or plushies. There's no age limit! There's also something really whimsical about using childhood ideas and bringing them into adulthood. I've had projects that I'm still working on and have been for over 20+ years and it's so cool seeing how life experience and new ideas blend together with story writing and drawing. Like a meeting of two minds. Awesome perspective, Saji! 😊
Over the last few years I've been mostly avoiding using 3d models and tracing because I wanted to keep practicing without them. I want to make comics of my own so I'll be using tracing a lot to save time, but I already know that I'm not inseparable from it. I think there has just been one too many cases of actual plagiarism and it makes beginners feel shame about tracing.
That’s perfectly valid and it’s great to practice without. I do feel there’s ways to use it without plagiarising. I’d love to to hear about your comic!
@@DrawWithSajiri I think most, if not all, of your points had about an equal amount of validity. If I had to choose I suppose it'd be the point about most professional artists using tracing in their own work, because it's true. Though I suppose that's more of a fact? IDK. I also like that you point out that you shouldn't claim it as your own if you trace someone else's art, because, while it may be obvious, it's an important disclaimer.
Thank you! I couldn’t fit the entire speedpaint into the entire video so I will use the rest for another one. And I’m glad the end got you, I’ve taken to putting my recorded bloopers in at the end for fun :)
I love this drawing so much! <3 Thank you for sharing your story, you are a beautiful human being and you have worked hard on your art. I wish you all the best in your career, and I will be here in the side lines cheering you on the whole way <3
Such an interesting perspective and thank you for sharing! Also, about 10 years ago I reached out to a professional artist about what study is worthwhile, he told me flat out that going to school for art was not worth the $$$ (this was in the US) and that everything you need to learn can be done with using the internet. I love the idea of the mentorship, artists supporting other artists! <3
Sound advice! I love the suggestion of using jewellery for inspiration, funnily enough, I did the same thing ages ago when I was designing the sword for one of my oldest OCs. It really does work 😊
Wow yeah, I am going through a few mental health issues plus an ASC diagnosis so this was really nice to hear that my obsessive art work routine is actually helping, though I probably should get a bit more sleep too :P thanks x
@@DrawWithSajiriI've definitely used art & writing to try and express things, but mostly just the act of creating helps my mental health significantly. I always struggle more when I go through a period where I can't create for a while. I'm also a co-founder & moderator of an art discord and having that community has been great!
The only barrier between you and your full creative expression is just the perspective you have of yourself and your abilities - Or so I've come to discover. Of ocurse, other people like friends seem to be a golden boost that fuels that shift in perspective. I guess because most people don't allow that confidence to come alone.
Absolutely! People get too hung up on the final product and whether or not they think they can do something, instead of just enjoying the process and expressing themselves
