Many many years ago I heard a demo of this song by the author, the incredible Jimmy Webb. Disbelieve me if you want, but Jimmy's version was FAR better than ether Glenn's or Mark Lindsays'. Jimmy, if you're reading this, PLEASE post the old demo here on RU-vid!
Robbie-----I love your little SMiLE label photo you have here. Something tells me we might have lots more in common than just JW. I am googleable and if you can get in touch, I can tell you more about the JW demo.@@RobbiesVideoArchives
Thank you very much for posting. I had the privilege of watching him singing this wonderful Jimmy Webb song on Brazilian TV during the Popular Music Festival held in 1969 in Rio de Janeiro. I am Brazilian.
Happy Birthday 76 Years - "Bill" Medley (Los Angeles, 19 de setembro de 1940) é um cantor e compositor americano, mundialmente conhecido por integrar a dupla The Righteous Brothers,
this is the very first version of sweet life.it's better than Barry even though I know Barry wrote this for this group but then took it back as his own single.smh
Sadly Elton "Boo Boo" Businelle, Wendel Champagne and Bobby Champagne are no longer with us. Two months ago Wendel and Bobby's mother joined them in heaven. I am sure she is dancing to the music of Boo Boo, Wendel and Bobby.
The Champagne Brothers were originally from Morgan City, Louisiana and moved to Houston around 1858. Prior to that time they played around south central and south eastern Louisiana. Once they moved to Houston they focused on the East Texas/Western Louisiana areas. Back in the day they knew many of the up coming acts such as BJ Thomas, Johnny Winter, Bobby Kimball of Toto, Kenny Rogers, Janis Joplin and others who played that circuit. Unfortunately large scale success somehow eluded them. I know this because they are my first cousins and I had many conversations with Charles and Wendle discussing the history. Bobby and Wendle Champagne have passed as well as their longtime friend and bandmate Elton Boo Boo Businelle.
I came for Michael McDonald but I was delighted as well seeing your profile image because the Beach Boys are actually my favourite group. Anyway, thanks for posting!
+RobbiesVideoArchives I am new to Michael and the Doobie Brothers, just bought the new box set a week ago. The other day I was thinking how awesome a collaboration between Carl Wilson and Michael McDonald would have been.I know Carl opened a couple of their shows in 1981.
I purchased two 45's two years ago as a surprise for my brother. We listened to outrage along with vagrents and the fudge. 3 are available on eBay as of this writing. The letter with b side The way I see it. The letter long and short version. Be my baby with b side (my favorite) The City.
tubester78 Here's a brief sample of one more & it sounds kinda like MONO! www.amazon.com/Pearls-Ceylon-Remix-Feat-Siobhan/dp/B005EZWUH2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420720922&sr=8-1&keywords=Siobhan+de+Mar%C3%A9
I had the job (and pleasure) of transcribing the tunes on her "Estate of Mind" album, most of which were studio head arrangements, into written charts for her to take on the road, ca. 1975. I'm glad she is still performing. Anyone know if she is still with (artist) Richard Germinaro?
I had the pleasure of knowing Charles and Boo Boo back in the early 60's I played piano on"It's Raining" in about 1962 also played some gigs with at that time.
I saw this group in 1964 at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston. They were on with The Four Seasons, The Shangri Las, and some other groups that I'm too old to recall. I miss the great era of R&B in the Houston area.
