Hi folks, I'm Mike and I hope you're well. This channel is dedicated to everything Cakewalk. From Cakewalk by Bandlab, to Cakewalk Next, and Cakewalk Sonar!
This sampler is so beyond basic that it isn't even worth putting in the package. I would just use the samples directly in the arranger. I'm kinda shocked they put this in the DAW package. This think barely merits existence...
Don’t really understand exactly what they’re going for here.. It certainly looks nice, to me better than the new Sonar because it’s less busy, yet it lacks some features and certain qualities that it should have. Why have two separate DAWs that almost do the same things, but not really? Why not combine it into 1 DAW that’s versatile? Also, why can’t you zoom in and out on each track to see the waveforms larger and smaller? It just seems like they had an opportunity to make something really new and cool, but it just misses. It’s lacking something I can’t put my finger on. It feels incomplete. And I find Sonar to look and feel too busy and messy for me.
@@nemonucliosis so the point is to just take your money? 🤣. These guys who took over this company don’t seem to really care. It’s sad honestly. The product isn’t even worth the money.
@@KristoferProphet I'm going to assume so. Theres no real reason to release this unless money is involved. Membership fees, "technical support", monthly fees. Just like Sonar was before they went belly up. Mike said in a previous video about cakewalk that the program may stop working. My guess is one this goes live cakewalk will either stop working all together or be very limited.
Is it correct that this is now subscription only and also released? If so i suppose its time for me and probably almost all of the user base to move on to other daws... Unfortunately.
Apparently the developers say it will be available in the future without requiring membership subscription, that's just the first option to go live. Hoping for an announcement soon - it would be nice to know definite details!
This one's gonna be a make or break for me. I purchased Sonar Artist X3 back in the day, but I stopped using it because it wasn't as intuitive as, say, Reaper. I came back with Cakewalk by Bandlab, but if they end up making this a subscription-based program, I'm done. The UI didn't improve all that much, certainly not that much that I'm going to pay to deal with it. I'll just shift back to Reaper.
Hi Mike, it appears that CW Sonar is only available with BL membership - which includes distribution in the membership fee. Will you be using it or continue with Distrokid? Might be worth a video to compare!
In reading the comments, I am intrigued by Bandlab's decision to reuse the Sonar product brand naming convention if they have no intention of honoring the lifetime subscription customers for Cakewalk Sonar by Gibson. Are there any lawyers out there that have access to the original deal ts & cs and international precedent for companies acquiring assets and presumably not obligations as to whether there could be a class-action suit to require them to honor lifetime upgrades? I'm more interested from an academic standpoint since I just paid for a Bandlab sub, but this is intriguing and potentially rewarding.
Hi Mike, love your clear and concise videos. I am still waiting to find out how much sonar will cost as compared to $60 Reaper. any news on how much we will be looking at for Sonar.
I hesitate to ask this as I can only how busy you are. I have been using cakewalk since pro audio 9. Last week for no reason that I can determine my spacebar stopped activating playback. It will not even play from the play icon in the control panel. Also I cannot record anything as the red record button only flashes but does not stay active. It is not hardware as I also have Studio One and everything works there perfectly. I have been working with Lois at Bandlab. She had me uninstall and reinstall...It solved the problem for 1 day, then back to useless. Any wisdom you have would be valued.
@@subramaniamchandrasekar1397 Thank you for taking the time to respond. No , in my shortcuts the spacebar and record buttons are permanent and cannot be changed, even if I wanted to.
Are you using wireless keyboard? Did you try with a wired keyboard? Also the space bar won't be active if it not in focus to active DAW window.. Regards.
@@subramaniamchandrasekar1397 Yes, I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse, but I substituted a wired version of each, and still no change. The support person at Bandlab suggested I remove my Evo 16 audio interface and then plug it back in. That cleared the problem for about 2 hours, then back to the same problem. I substituted a different interface, a Presonus Studiolive Series 3. Cakewalk sees the new interface but will still not play. BTW, thank you so much for trying to help. I may have to abandon Cakewalk altogether and go with Studio One, as I have clients waiting.
XSampler is wrong name, Sampler: simple and clean. Cakewalk has to be smart because there are many daws on the market and all good. The first time it must bring the functions that are found in most daws: drag and drop, audio to midi, ara tools for audio, chord pads for a quick idea, control rooms for headphones mix, i could write a novel with lacks just to catch up with rest of the daws. Good luck with your work !
More drag and drop options in Sonar than in Cakewalk - in fact I can't think of many actions that you can't do by drag and drop from the browser. Can't you create a 'control room' stereo bus and include a send on each track? (I've done this in the past to compare alternative mix bus processing chains).
As always - clear, concise and easy to understand tutorial. Thanks Mike! I've never used a Sampler before, but will give XSampler a try - now that you've explained it!
1. Interesting ! 2. You say "No advanced features in the piano roll", but the long white on black menu you showed (3'55'' +/-) allow us to modify quite a lot of parameters from the piano roll ("clip inspector") IF I got it right . Is that so common ? 3. No score editor ??? In a daw which seems aimed primarily at songwriters and composers ? While there is one in CBB ? 4. For the moment, the only way to pay seems to buy a membership in Bandlab. Same for the coming Sonar. Will one have to pay for one or two memberships to have both ? - if you have any information about that. 5. Thanks a lot for the video !
Hello from Germany, thanks for your video, much infos to find. But I have a strange question: How does it sound? Meanwhile I have testet Cubase after using the BandLab-Version and I find it much more powerfull and better sounding... but so under-developed versus Sonar Platinum - it hurts and shows everyone the extreme high level of Sonar!
Thank you so much, thanks to you i've learned how to get quality content in this daw; this has lead my projects to get hundreds of thousands of streams in platforms, thank you Mike!!
We have worked and earned our money with Cakewalk professional for 20 years. After Gibson ended, we switched to Steinberg Nuendo, where we will remain. We simply need the specialized functions in audio postprocessing. But I can recommend Cakewalk to everyone when it comes to just making music. It is one of the best DAWs on the market. And Cakewalk has a long history and an insane range of capabilities when it comes to MIDI and audio.
Hey Mike. Having a big issue, hoping you can help me?? Settings and computer info attached. Aside from this ISSUE, everything else works fine! Edit tracks, add VST's, effects, meters, etc. ISSUE: When I try to record on a new Audio Track, and I enable the orange "Input Echo" button beside the red Arm Record button on that track, it picks up and records ALL other previously recorded tracks as well as the audio I'm trying to record. Also, it starts what sounds like a feedback loop when you increase the volume from the fader on that track (it's NOT actual feedback, as in a guitar or mic close to a speaker). Physical "Mix" setting on the front of the UR22mk11 (Input / DAW) has no effect on the issue, and my monitors are off (just in case someone thought it was feeding back through my monitors). ALL Steinberg/Yamaha Drivers are updated to the latest version. Running latest version of Cakewalk: Version 2024.02 (Build 098, 64 Bit.) ANYTHING you could do to help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Thanks in advance, Chris. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
If you have an old version of Sonar, re-installing it will give you the missing drums. I don't see anything here that impressed me enough to want to go to the paid version.
I got sick of Cakewalk as it became a burden to use, I went to Reaper a couple of years ago, best decision I've made with DAW's because there is so much support out there and after a couple of months of very casual usage it's easy to understand. I would never go back. My thoughts are they should call it a day.
