Sacré Nigel, Good old Nigel. Of course, this was minimum a yellow card at the time. Now straight red card and a ban. But it was Good Old Nigel refereing a french team...and you know what, in close games, or at the start, when nothing is decided yet, the decisions (almost) never went the french way, 6 Nations, test games, Heineken cup....I could give a long list of specific examples. I am not saying he was a bad referee, of course he was one of the best, and that's whay he could tilt the key decisions always in the direction he wanted. Only him could not want to see again Sean OBrien out of play punch to Pascal Pape in the pool game at RWC2015. Anyway, the Irish were better, no question about this, but a punch is a punch and that should have been a red card. Ah and O'Brien ended up the best player of the game on that day. What would have happened if he had received his red card? That's just an example, there are so many....2 similar incidents: Saracens-Clermont 1/2 final HCup 2014 - yellow card -penalty try against Brock James after 7min: "By halftime Saracens were 24-6 up, following a Chris Ashton try and a contentious Nigel Owens awarded Penalty Try and yellow card for Clermont flyhalf Brock James." ? Not a game decider but definitly did not help Clermont. Munster - Toulon 1/4 final 2018 H Cup similar incident as above but this time it's Munster Simon Zebo that seems to throw the ball out of play at the start of the game to avoid a Chris Ashton try: "Covering Munster winger Simon Zebo, however, knocked the ball dead with his left hand - leaving Ashton to protest with Owens for a penalty try." Decision: no penalty try and yellow card this time for Zebo, not even a penalty. Nothing to see. We could mention the Champions Cup final 2020 Exeter-Racing and again the tight calls, the ones that can go both ways, that went the Exeter way. And guess what? Exeter won 31-27 to a dominant, but not that efficient, Racing team. A few key decisions in their favor would have helped maybe, but.... ....Good old Nigel...
O flower of Scotland When will we see your like again That fought and died for Your wee bit hill and glen And stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again Those days are passed now And in the past they must remain But we can still rise now And be the nation again That stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again
Scotland had a team full of good players, which made the Welsh try even better. But the best Scotsman on the day was definitely Bill McLaren. Genius commentary. He was a passionate Scotsman, at first a passionate rugby man! Of course, I could’ve watched the Welsh team all day, but equally I could listen to Bill, McLaren forever
Why did these _"extended highlights"_ miss the fourth french try (at 56::40) ? Look at this complete _"résumé"_ instead : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c9ikv8D7hQI.html
I remember this well and the players believe it or not I was 9 years old never missed a game with our Dad. Hes gone now but we always appreciated the love of sports he instilled in us. When i see these games it brings me back to my youth a simpler time and a sport that was played with passion for the love of the game not money. The reward was pulling on that old green jersey and marching onto the field to represent your country and your people. No greater honor exists in sport win lose or draw.
One of the happiest days of my life -sitting behind the posts watching Scott Gibbs belting over the try line and then Jenkins with the conversion- I could watch this over and over- the sheer excitement that day was mind blowing and the journey back down the M4 with scarves and flags hanging out of car windows -a nice end to the journey home
Sad to see that the reffing is as poor 6 years ago as it is today. So many scottish infringments no called high and late tacckles by scotland offsides very poor from the ref.

I hated that because it was beautiful but the only thing he did in a season and kept him selected to walk about the pitch pretending to be a rugby player while far better players were benched. His captaincy cost us a GS this year.
