Using the circle of 5ths, find the notes of any diatonic scale, notice that those notes form a consecutive group on the circle. The notes that are further away from the center of that group are going to be the spicy ones. The further out you go, the spicier it gets. Notice that any pentatonic scale is also a group of notes, just a smaller set. Now notice that pentatonic notes are almost always ok, sound good enough. If you don't know what to play, you can play these. These are the butter notes, Mr. Davis made a recommendation not to play them. The benefits of negative space, in that view, outweigh the clutter of things that fit. Very modern.
I’m 78 and been a pro for 60 years and developed arthritis on my right hand thumb. (I have osteoarthritis throughout my body and I guess it took this long to make it to my extremities). In May, I had a CMC (carpalmetacarpalarthroplasty) arthroplasty surgery to correct the problem and now my pinch strength is gone. Lately, been watching these videos along with doing all sorts of strengthening exercises to regain my picking hand back. It’s extremely frustrating because at one time I was an okay player. Although I also play both piano and trumpet, the guitar is my main love.
Here is how I was taught: The consonant extensions to any common tertian 7th chord lie a whole step above the tones of the basic triad. The issue here is consonance vs dissonance. Dissonant tones create tension and can push toward a release or consonance. But if you’re playing over a ‘static’ chord, all of the consonant tones are tones in which you can stay or land on. IMO Phrygian is just a flavor with some consonant tones and some dissonant tones. Any note can be played over any chord. Literally. It’s completely dependent on where your phrase lands. If you wanna sound like you actually MEANT to play something, then end your phrase on a consonant tone.
He’s one of those guitarists that anything of his you learn will improve your playing. I messed around with Waves and even though I can’t play that song all the way through the interesting movements and riff construction changed my playing for the better.
Playing without tension isn't possible though I've been trying so hard for years but nothing. Giutar teachers think that because they can do it then anyone can. Not everyone has those special muscles you need to be born with with to do it and to play guitar you must have them. It's not fucking fair and I hate giutarists
1.not over value sweep picking, because it's prepared lick. 2.learn small arp. instead. 3.sound-wise, sometimes you'll need that soft attack from economic picking,so it's best learn case by case
JESUS CHRIST! ALL NOTES ARE GIFTS FROM THE GOOD CREATOR, I THINK AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR THAT. I APOLOGISE FOR ANY ERRORS OR MISTAKES. LET US ALL TRY TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN WE USE WORDS AND LET US ALL RESPECT ALL. THANK YOU. FORGIVE THOSE WHO MISBEHAVED.
