Has the bike been sitting for a long time? The first thing I would do is place the bike on a flat surface. Do not start the bike, have it in first gear. Pull the clutch in all the way and push it forward hard. This will sometimes free up the clutch. Try this many times. Norman.

I had an old copy of the Iron-Butt magazine in which they highlighted a Honda ST1100 that had been purchased by a local European long distance riding club. The bike was available to club members for hire with the intention of doing the regular services and then riding the heck out of it. The only problem that it had was at what would be the 120,000 mile mark it blew a hose. The club installed a new hose kit and then kept riding it.

Im sure this is my problem. Since my prior mechanic took out. Becuase my cover wouldn't fit. Turns out the starter popped out of place and was the problem the whole time. Turned on and stayed in, then rode it, and it got stuck on 3rd gear... i don't have the confidence to fix it myself.

4 mins into the video, and I already like your teaching style. I just bought a 2003 800. It has sat for a year and a half, and it is crackling and poppping. I am pulling the carb to clean, doing the valve adjustments, and one more thing to check.... the kickstand switch. A buddy had a backfire, and shut off issue, after cleaning his carbs and all the stuff he did, turned out to be that switch. I doubt its my problem, but maybe this will help someone.
@2001himax
@2001himax 3 месяца назад
Sounds you are on the right track. One other thing to try is put a new air filter in it. Working on my cousin's mower it would backfire and shut down. Found I take the air filter out and it ran fine. Put new air filter in it ran great. I had cleaned the filter, it's a paper one, that did not help. Norman.

Good evening Norman, First thank you for this completed thoroughly video. I have a 2008 Boulevard C50T that I bought from a gentleman who let the bike sat in his storage shed for 6 years. The gas tank was rusted bad inside. The fuel pump inside the gas tank was badly rusted, and plastic wire cover harness broke into pieces when I pulled it out. So here is a list of things that I have done so far but still couldn't get the bike started: 1) Cleaned the inside tank thoroughly. 2) Removed, cleaned and test the two injectors. I verified that the solenoid on both injectors were working. 3) Put in the brand new fuel pump that I bought on eBay for $170. 4) Installed a brand new battery. After I have everything put back together, pushed the start button, the engine turning but not fired up. I checked the spark plugs and there are sparks on all 4 plugs. I tried to narrow down the problem by trying to spray the starting fluid directly into the upper cylinder valves to see if it started. Yes it did started with the starting fluid until it ran out. So I think the only thing left for me to check is the fuel pump. My question to you is is there a way to manually check to see if this new aftermarket fuel pump from eBay is a good or bad one? Much appreciate it if you can provide me any lead on this. Thanks in advance!
@2001himax
@2001himax 5 месяцев назад
With that rust in the tank you may have some rust in the hose that feeds the tank. The gas line you unhook from the tank has a check valve so you undo the line from the connector and very little gas runs out of the tank. It could have some rust in there. When you first turn the bike on do you hear the pump build up pressure then stop ? The gas system has a pressure system. Something to think about. Norman.

How did you clean the inside of the tank? I’m having the same issue, and I’m wondering what is the best way to clean it
@2001himax
@2001himax 2 месяца назад
@@danieldyck720 Look in the tank and if there is rust in it, what we did in the old days, Take small gravel and wash it so it is very clean. Put it in the tank and shake it turning the tank as you do this. It will knock the rust loose then flush it out a few times till it's clean. They make a product that you pour in the tank and you turn the tank and it puts a coating in it. Norman.

Hi Brenden Don't say anything to the seller about the fix I show. You may get the bike at a better price. Then you can check the bolt I show. I have been so busy working on our kitchen. Got a new metal roof and got a leak so they are going to fix that. Then Lois' car needs 1/4 panels fixed for inspection. I am welding new metal in. We bought new kitchen cabinets in the raw and finished them ourselves. Came out great. Saved a lot of money. Can't work on kitchen till the leak is fixed. Thank goodness it didn't leak where we remodeled. I get her car done then I want to get the Honda bike inspected. Please let me know how you make out with the V Star. Norman.

You did good, it’s so important to be able to get your feet on the ground. I remember I had a BMW that was too high for me and also it was hard to find the side stand sometimes, that can be scary at times and takes away the fun. The ST1100 is well known for being good with the seat lowered for us vertically challenged types.

I think you misunderstand paint work. What you've done is great...but it's just the beginning to get a pro result. Your finish on repainted part is not the smooth look of the rest of the bike- much of the final result is the light reflection, color match can be a tad off as yours is now. To fix this, sand what you have to get rid of the orange peel with 500 grit VERY Lightly, then clean, go to 1000 grit. If you sand too much, repaint with color again. Then when ready for final you shoot with clearcoat, then polish with rotary oscillating polisher with finest final pad and Meguiar's final polish. Keep polishing till it looks like glass. In time, as you get proficient with clearcoat, and have skill with paint, you can lay the clearcoat on HEAVY so it looks like glass, and you will not have to sand and polish at all. Keep in mind that the part is ABS plastic, and the paint is also plastic...with both having the same flexibility.

Risers wreak havoc with bike design...the slight forward lean puts you in the sport touring position...and optimizes your control of the bike. Risers have problems. More back strain. A slight forward lean turns your body into somewhat of a spring...able to absorb impacts, not so sitting straight up. You'll also find you are far more likely to drop the bike moving it around your garage if you have risers. It basically changes the balance, and not in good ways.
