We provide the basics of life: food, friendship and increased mobility, to frail, homebound seniors living in Fremont, Newark and Union City, California. Our four direct service programs -- Meals on Wheels, Friendly Visitors, VIP Rides and Falls Prevention -- promote healthy lifestyle choices, support daily well-being, and enable independent living for as long as safely possible.
Crazy to think that just 6yrs ago we were saying "lgbt" and not "lgbtq" like we do now. In any case, I'm glad we're coming along, but it such slow progress still... Even assuming we have aids and will sxxually assault children (all while cishet folks like to ignore the statistics that cishet harm children the most, especially from a child's own parents). It's exhausting constantly fighting to be heard. Some bigoted people are so brainwashed and uneducated that they think being gay is a struggle people choose, mainly something white people choose, because they think white people never have systematic struggles.
Thank you for this information. I thought I was the only one jumping back into the closet when I joined the local senior center. it's very helpful knowing that this is something lots of other people are going through.
No, you're not alone! And just because there is a decal or little "rainbow flags" in the flower boxes doesn't mean that the facility is open or welcoming to LGBT residents either! Anti-LGBT rhetoric at local senior centers goes on ALL THE TIME! The hurtful slurs and derogatory remarks of straight residents are often never confronted or corrected by senior center staff! Most often they try to pass things off as a "joke", but it's not a "joke" to the person(s) that are being humiliated. It's deliberate bullying!!!
Way too much talking and lecturing. The people he was blathering on about should have been permitted to talk for themselves. What a waste of a documentary.
This is a great watch. I'm glad there is information out there to help make LGBTQ seniors as comfortable as possible. I also found this article to be helpful: www.alegrecare.com/single-post/reminding-lgbtq-seniors-that-they-are-not-forgotten
Of course the Indigenous left out again . The Nizh Manidoowag or 2 Spirit . So should always read ; 2S and LGBTQ communities . Such a white wash vid , once again .
I'm South African and gay. In my 20s I dreamed of opening a LGBTQ old age home. Life happened, I never did open that home, and now, suddenly, I an 54, almost old enough to live in a home myself... watching this video, and others like it recently, has rekindled the dream.
Very insightful...Thanks!!! Education is available thru this wonderful media of the computer. The mature population has been so misrepresented thru the decades....glad to see that this agenda is making headway......again,Thanks!!
It's an honor to be the first to compliment this wonderful accomplishment. This is an amazing visual document. Congrats to all involved and special kudos to those brave participants who shared their stories. Mr G
