" what doesn't kill you make you stronger ... " I was milk producer and son of milk producers since several generation ... since I was few month old, I drink a lot of raw milk of every kinds. mostely without any treatment or washing udder, and now that I dont sale my milk, with a simple rince about milking equipment. I am 54 years old and I never was ill about anything and look like a thirty-something man well done to you ! I laught out loud when I heard about people who can't stand milk !
We have had raw milk for years from different suppliers. One herd had TB and so had to discontinue for a good while; another packed it badly and the bottles were often crushed against each other and one had come open in transit and made an awful mess. It was put down to a new packer but we weren't compensated even though l showed the evidence. Then we found Fen Farm and have been happy customers ever since. It was so good to watch this going through the stages from cow to bottle. ❤
You think our ancestors were sterilizing everything before and after every milking? Just sayin....no knock on you brother, I know the hoops you have to jump through to keep the geniuses in govt off your back. Keep it up!!
A bit late viewing this Jonny, and as a raw milk producer some great tips. I know you used to use a teatbrush in the parlour, and I was wondering why you’d come back to the foam cup
I've made several cheeses using milk from this Fen Farm dairy - delicious! This curd cheese is lovely but I prefer cheeses acidified using buttermilk or yogurt. There are great Facebook groups for cheese makers and websites with recipes for many styles of cheese. I also buy their Bigod brie, often for presents for friends.
Just found ur video on making mozza. Does it have to be raw to make cheese with rennet.....I have the tablets but don't know what to do with it. Thank you so much......👍🏻
Any milk but not UHT or ultra pasteurized. Mozz is difficult to get right. The pH needs to be right or it won't stretch. There are many easier cheeses to make.
Hey! We don’t sell by mail order outside the UK but we do export a little to some retailers in Europe. Do you have a favourite town/city to shop in? I can find out if we have a stockist there. 😊
Here in south western BC Canada, we feed potatoes to the cows. They are rejected by store buyers because of size or spots but the cows just love them. And it reduces the need for corn or grain.
My girlfriend and I are traveling the states, looking to stay/visit with like minded awake and aware Christians that are homesteading/farming/ranching. We would love to meet you, and learn from you. We would love to be financially compensated if you are blessed to, but we are also happy to trade labor for temporary housing and food while we visit. We are especially interested in animal husbandry, lamb and cows, and raw milk. We like to eat carnivore/keto, but we have both worked on farms and like veggies and fruit too, anything that is sustainable and coming from the land. Reply to this comment if you would like to learn more about us and have something to offer! God Bless
Having dealt with 3 cows calving between 3 and 7 am today, I am of the opinion that cows calve when they want too. Edit: got another calf the next morning. But a heifer decided to play around and got stuck in a gate. Had to cut her out.🤦♀️ But we also got 6 new born kittens. Absolutely gorgeous and the mother had no problems. However she had them in the office chair.😂
I ordered raw milk from this place, and had it delivered all the way to Liverpool in the other end of the country. I was surprised and pleased that they even agreed to deliver it in the first place, though I was even more impressed when it arrived in immaculate condition. Four well-designed bottles in a securely wrapped cardboard box nestled in a bed of straw, accompanied by some sort of freezing pack to keep them chilled. It is clear that they care deeply about their product and the delivery process over long distances. Upon tasting it I could immediately discern the difference in quality compared to the slop you get out of the supermarket. Needless to say I will be ordering more, I just hope it's not too much of an inconvenience for these good folk that I'm based in the North, but then again they'd probably only offer a local delivery service if it was an issue. Lastly the price, I've looked around at some other online shops, and they provide the best value for money, nothing else to add there. Full marks!
Hey! You can eat it anywhere up to around 12 weeks old and it also freezes well. Once opened, keep it in the fridge in an airtight container to stop it drying out before you finish it. 😊
Great to see Shaun highlighted. Jonny and his Dad are an inspiration, but his enthusiasm and the fact his team work so hard is what really makes the business work.
👏🏼 phenomenal. I drink around 2.5 liters of raw milk every day, makes me happy to see an honest farm like this doing the good work! 🙏🏼 Actually makes me wanna work here 😄
Hey! The fat content of milk depends on a few things, including the breed of cow and the diet she is eating, therefore it changes between farms. It can change seasonally or with dietary changes controlled by the farmer, for example if the cows come inside in the winter and eat silage. All farms have different mixtures of plants and grasses in their pasture too, which affect the milk fat levels. Lactation stage also plays a part. Sorry, that’s not a straight answer but as every farm does things differently the times when fat content is low/high can vary widely. 😊
Hi great video !! i live in cyprus and i can only find powder rennet . How much do you think should i add in 2 liters of milk? how do i measure it ? thank you
Hi! I’ve not used powdered rennet before but a quick google tells me that all brands seem to be of different strengths and therefore require widely different dilution ratios. I would recommend contacting the rennet company if there are no instructions on the pack.😊
@@fenfarmdairy8629 thank you for the quick reply!!! the rennet i can find is 2 percent strength i have googled too but cant find how much to add to 2 liters of milk and how to measure it
Question Sir, I was reading a discussion in a Facebook agriculture group regarding milking the cows. This person who wants to be a dairy farmer, he was saying he rather use natural method using apple cider vinegar and bicarbonate soda mixture and wipe off with hot water flannel cloth the cows teats before inserting the milk tubes. He doesn't like the idea using chemical foam and alcohol. What do you think?
Hi! There are lots of different ways to clean a cow’s teats before milking. We’ve tried many, from simple wood-wool, to special wipes, to the re-usable face flannels we use today. There are also lots of substances with which you can clean them, from chemical to natural. The way we have decided on our method has been to spend the last few years lab testing milk samples and monitoring teat health/cow comfort with many different methods. The method we use today has proved to be the best for producing the cleanest milk and also the best comfort and health for the cows teats (used twice a day, cow comfort is important). We also chose the cotton flannels as we can simply sterilise and reuse them, and they are biodegradable at the end of their life. Hope that helps explain a bit of our process, thanks for your interest! 😊
Important question! A glass bottle needs to be reused between 7-20 times to have a smaller carbon footprint than plastic. We offer both options. We don’t currently have the facilities to take glass bottle returns so we offer glass bottles to customers who are willing to be in charge of cleaning and refilling their own bottles. For passers-by we offer free pre-sterilised plastic bottles. We offer the free plastic bottles to discourage people from bringing their own (often insufficieny sterilised) containers as this could be a health risk. We trialled removing plastic bottles completely and giving free glass bottles to all visitors on the understanding that they would reuse them for future refills but sadly most people took a new free glass bottle on every visit so the carbon footprint of that strategy wasn’t going to be acceptable. Still waiting for someone to invent an eco friendly bottle with a smaller footprint than glass which can hold dairy without melting. Would love to be free of the plastic!
Fen Farm Dairy is one of my favourite places ever. Not only is the milk GORGEOUS, but so is everything else that is sold here. I never liked milk until I tried it from here. It's absolutely yummy. I'm there every week, sometimes more than once a week. Love it! Many thanks for all your hard work and careful attention to detail. Your milk is amazing!
Really interesting. And so glad to see you care for your cows so much. My mum's family were all farmers in the Lake District and seeing that milking shed I can almost smell that smell that was such a part of my childhood.
