Love the easier method than seeds. I’ve had great results from watching your video. But the last jars I did jar to jar transfer I had contamination because the corns started turning green. Interesting though, the jars are still turning white and look nice and white like cotton. Not going to use them but want to see if they pin in the jars. Why is the mycelium not turning green like the corn? Overall it has worked great and getting nice flushes
To make cutting the liner easier, you could cut down to your desired level on each corner and then cut the sides individually. That way you’re not cutting around corners
Thanks for this video 👊🏼 I took my popcorn out of the PC this morning and it looked like this. I thought maybe I screwed up and the popcorn has too much moisture. But after seeing this, I think mine should be good. I will wait a day or two to let the kernels soak up a bit of it. No pools, you can just see some moisture between the kernels and the side of the jar. Thank you!
Love people Total noob here here, how were the lids modified and why please, and when referring adding as much water as the instruction manual says ?? Which instruction manual? Lol 🫣#illgetthere🎉
If I have the plastic lids can those go thru the pressure cooker or do I need to use the metal ring topped with foil for the PC portion, then replace with plastic? I’m seeing comments saying don’t modify your lids and I would rather not but unsure if the plastic lids that are made for shrooms can survive the PC process.
My pressure cooker was a hand me down from my grandmother. It’s gotta be one of the first presto pressure cookers they made. I can’t find a new seal for it. The closet one I found was a little too big and didn’t work. I put the old seal in silicone wd40 and vacuum sealed it as a final attempt to get it to work again but I thought I had to get a new one. It worked though and I get to put off getting a new one for a while longer
Hey man appreciate the content. I do have a question. With your ratio for substrate how many shoeboxes can you make with out having left over substrate? Trying out the shoebox tek for the first time. And I wanna reduce my waste as I progress in my journey and learn new ways.
Yes, an instapot works great. Boil for 6 minutes, drain and run cold water over the rice to stop the cooking and let dry 10 minutes in a strainer, then jar up and put in the instapot under pressure for 30 minutes, pull out and let cool then inoculate... Since you are using rice for human consumption, it doesn't have the endospores to worry about, therefore no need for 90+ minutes of pressure cooking... Hope this helps, good luck on your adventures...
I put foil caps on my jars for the popcorn tek and used modified jars. I had micropore tape on the GE holes, and the condensation from under the tinfoil still got them wet. Should I replace the micropore tape, or just let it self-dry and let it ride?
@@ashleyhazel6310 dont replace it. Let it dry out. Micropore tape is resilient. Also, don't get lured into modifying your lids. Either go upside down lid with the metal ring or get the plastic and leave halfway screwed on. Self healing injection ports and breathing holes are just additional vectors for contamination. I've learned a lot.
How long is this grain good for once it's sterilized? Can I do a bunch of grain at once and let it sit for a bit as I wait on my spores/LC/agar/etc? If so, how long?
Started growing not long ago. Got my first grow still not fruiting and it’s been almost 2.5 months no smell nothing bad no pins my second grow it’s 2 weeks earlier than that so 2 months already had so many flushes first was all in one with lc second was rye grain jars and spore syringe now I’m doing jmf I hope they pin soon!
Quick question. Ive got some lq growing in 300 mls of honey water. It appears ive had some pretty good growth however the honey tinge has become much ligher in color. Without trying to sound stupid this is my first attempt , if the myc appears to have stalled in growth can i add some more honey ? And if i cant and the solution is done do i need to move this to refrigeration until i can see what ive grown by transferring to agar? Thanks 😊
