Are these offset any to help with clearance on the driver side for the fuel tank?
@Metaltech4x4

Not offset at the top. The tubing used is smaller than the lowers to help with the clearance of the fuel tank. When running the MT4x4 long travel at full droop, the driver-side link body can touch the tank but not put pressure. It is a non-issue with the plastic body tanks

Hello. I have such a question. I put the rear springs on the gx 470. At 350-400 kilos, it already sits on the bumpstops. What should I do? Should I raise or cut the bumpstops?thanks☺️
@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 10 дней назад
350-400 kilos (around 800 lbs) is a lot of constant added weight on stock Prado 120 coil springs. I suggest switching your coil springs to support that weight first. With that much weight, a medium "lift" coil spring, like an Old Man Emu 895, would probably sit level with no lift.

Hey Mark, I have a 3rd gen tacoma SR5 Access Cab 4x4, i’m getting my nitrocharger plus struts in a couple days. Should i go ahead and install 5mm higher on the driver side for lean or do access cabs not have lean? Thanks man
@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 10 дней назад
Unfortunately, some have lean, and some don't, as more than one factor creates it on the different Toyota platforms. If in doubt and you're paying a shop to do the installation work, you might add a spacer if one is available now for the new larger Plus struts. Check with the vendor you're getting your kit from; also, the install shop may have some additional recommendations.

To keep the OEM Lexus Air System when the airbag blows, is buying a new one from LEXUS or looking for someone who removed their still working bags for a suspension lift.
@TheBluuHouse
@TheBluuHouse 17 дней назад
So I have a question for those that may know. I recently replaced my airbags with the stage 3 Metal Tech coils and Bilstein 5100 Monotube Shocks Rear Pair for 2003-2009 Lexus GX470. Love them both, but after having them professionally installed I notice rear sway and less stability. Now, No fault to Metal Tech or Bilstein, the straight ride feels amazing. 3 different shops told me everything looks fine underneath, that's the nature of coils vs airbags. Just curious if others notice a wobble on the rear? If not, what else can I check other than sway bar, stabilizer link and bearing? P.S. I do love the stage 3 Metal Tech coil kit.
@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 16 дней назад
Sway is controlled by, yes, the sway bar, but also and primarily the rebound of the shocks being run. Check your sway bar connections (we just had a customer's GX in the shop who showed up without it; he did not know it should have been there; it never was for him). If good, next up are the shocks. Bilstein 5100s are an industry staple but may just have a softer rebound than what you're used to from what came off the truck. Hope this helps!
@TheBluuHouse
@TheBluuHouse 15 дней назад
@@Metaltech4x4 It does and makes sense. Do you know if the Bilstein 5100 mono tube run on the softer side? I’ve heard other high-end brands may have a sportier handle.
@Metaltech4x4

@@TheBluuHouse Full respect for the Bilstein brand, but in MT4x4's 25yrs of doing what we do, we have not installed or sold Bilstein. Experience with customers having them but not directly by us, so it is hard to respond directly to their ride vs others. The GX's are a good 600+ lbs heavier than 4Runners and 1000+ lbs more than a Tacoma etc. so the shocks have to work harder. Reboud valving will be different for each brand of shock.

@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 18 дней назад
The gears in the difs are OEM 4.10s in this one! But the 4SPD transmission is an SM465, so it's 6.55:1. Quite a bit lower than a factory FJ40 4-speed H42 with 3.58:1

@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 16 дней назад
@@arsalansiddiqui99 congrats on having an 84' FJ40! The US stopped getting them in 1983 and even those are extremely rare here. Most likely you have the H55F transmission in your 40, great transmission with a nice .84:1 over drive for top end speed. For 37's I would consider 4.88 gears in the diffs to get solid low end but still decent HW driving. Our 1974 FJ40 with 37s and the stock F motor is anything but "fast", except when its on the trailer behind an F350 deisel pulling it!

3:44 is key, folks. The spring keeper goes "bell down," not up. This is an easy mistake to make due to the design of the spring keeper/perch. We just had a customer have a professional shop install his new OME kit with the spring keeper/perch installed upside down. This shortens the area for the springs, and a 2" lift becomes 4", maxing out the inner CV (killing it) and crazy lifting the truck. They told him he needed another $2k worth of parts "to make it work". Not the case. Just install the spring keeper in the right direction for the win and a great-performing suspension.

huge difference between nitrocharger sport?
@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 23 дня назад
There is a difference, for sure. The bodies of the PLUS shocks are bigger, usually in shocks; this means more oil inside, which is a very good thing for a shock. (Better heat dissipation) As for the ride, the customer with the 5th Gen 4Runner that received these reported an outstanding ride. Also, as expected, the handling has improved quite a bit.

@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 Месяц назад
Yes heavy, but actually very capable, but like any truck what your body damage tolerance. Also of course being a Toyota they just keep working. (One in video had 250k+ at the time) In 2003 when the GX470 was released, Petersons 4WD, took one pulled the plastic bumpers shoved 31s on it and ran the Rubicon, front to back and drove it home. (They also named it 4x4 of the yr that year because of that) For most GX470 owners they are the ideal Overlander rig and the one in this video is built for Overlanding not rock crawling. Thus 34" skinny AT's no gears, no lockers etc.

@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 2 месяца назад
Gravity! Yup, it's the compression of the weight of the truck that keeps them in. When fully extended suspension-wise, the shocks stop the suspension from opening to the point where the springs fall out. The springs always have some pre-load on them that keeps them in place. Simple and works!

@Metaltech4x4
@Metaltech4x4 3 месяца назад
Metal-tech 4x4 bumpers, sliders and skids. 100% stock tie rods, I just carried a spare but never needed it. Drove the Bonroco hard, but it was also not my first-time rock crawling. That does help. I'm not a big fan of removing a simple fail point, like the stock tierods. Whenever we "beef up" one thing, we just move the fail point to a new location. Stock tie rods are low-cost, easy to carry, and easily swapped out on the trail. Bend a sock tie rod = save the rack. It's a fuse with a lesson about what caused it to bend. (Driver feedback on what they were doing. Usually, it is something with some speed or dropping off a ledge with the steering kicked over hard.) The racks only started having issues when people put the splints, braces, and overbuilt tie rods on. This, in turn, started a whole new industry, leading to "we need stronger racks." But honestly, the stock tie rod with a few spares = is simple and works. If we were to "beef" up the steering system, I would go 100% OEM Ford with the Hoss 3.0 rack/rods. Seen quotes for $3k installed and programmed by dealers w/warranty and maintaining your OEM warranty.

@Metaltech4x4 3 месяца назад
@@husker_nation Absolutly. We run 37's now on he stock OG smaller tie rods. That is what we ran the Rubicon with. If one was bending OE tie rod ends a lot or just wanted the best setup, then yes, the stock Ford Hoss 3.0 is the way to go. The demand for these kits has been so high Ford has upped the availability of the parts. As of right now, the Hoss 3.0 rack and tierods are only about $1k; that other $2k is their labor to put it in and flash the computer to teach it the bigger stepper motor for the power assist.
