Every election time, people struggle to know which progressive candidate to back and the vote is split. That has helped the Conservatives win in Totnes for 100 years.
The South Devon Primary will change that, by enabling voters to hear from the candidates at Town Hall Q&As, and vote on which one is best-placed to win the seat.
Then we all unite behind that candidate and send an MP to Westminster who represents our shared values.
We're sharing this model with similar constituencies. Will give you a website, adapted graphics and a flat-pack guide, and support. Interested? Sign up at www.politicalprimary.org/sign-up and we'll connect you with others in your constituency.
I do not accept that this movement can effectively gather like minded people of any real political consequence. The people who live in South Ham’s area, recognise that they are very fortunate as to where they live in the world, and generally the conservatives represent their overall outlook. Totnes and nearby towns and villages, obviously have the same benefits, albeit there seems to be a slight core population difference from a radical left outlook to the base of the origins of the UKIP party from a little while back. With such a diverse cross section of opinion, how can you start to claim common ground through one local collection. Down in this niche end of the country we cannot begin to comprehend the concerns of life in Leeds, London or Liverpool. We owe it to ourselves to be educated on political concerns, and vote as our sympathies lean, based on a balanced and educated mindset. Saying all of that, there will still obviously be a disparate distribution of votes, but unfortunately, they won’t be shared proportionately, that goes without saying, and as such, that along with illegal immigration, these are the two major effects which will still preside after this election has had it’s time to settle down to the hum drum of trying to rule this country, in accordance to the wishes of it’s naive populous. Well, it’s all done now, and from what I have witnessed so far, no one is truthfully looking forward with confidence and enthusiasm. What went wrong?
Londonised Devon is a ruin of it's former self, the one I was born into of nearly no incomers telling us what to do and how much beautiful land to destroy for their houses!
My mate has an email from the Labour Party stating it was NOT in any way part of this primary in Devon despite the Lib Dem’s claims that they were alongside the greens. What’s the truth???? Because being lied to is not what I thought this was??? Can anyone clarify before we vote?
Hi John. Hopefully this isn’t too late. We’ve always been very open about how, despite local Labour being on board locally with the idea when we first floated it in May 23, national labour barred candidates from participating. They didn’t have a candidate anyway by the time of the town halls, but we kept them on the ballot paper. Here’s some explanation from Ben Long, one of the cofounders. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1eS0104L39Q.htmlsi=5D_eiDXJsi4a7naB Two of us 3 cofounders campaigned for Labour at the last election so we’re not against them - we’re just sick of Labour and the Lib Dems fighting each other and handing victory to the Tories. That’s why we set up the Primary - to enable voters to choose one candidate through a fair and transparent process.

That email contained some very misleading info. Labour members we know have written to complain. More info: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1eS0104L39Q.htmlsi=5D_eiDXJsi4a7naB
Very little money involved. It’s mostly volunteer time. What little provided is from cofounder Simon Oldridge who most definitely isn’t Russian :). Gerrymandering is manipulation of boundaries. This is the age old process of people with similar views compromising and getting together to have some influence - or in other words, politics.
I think you'll find that the Russian money went to LeaveEU via Aaron Banks. Mr Mangnall s bum must be getting really sweaty because we're going to see him out of the SHams.
It's a Tory of course it's lying, That's what they do, they lie, they lie about everything even when they don't need to lie they still lie and we now found out that they have done nothing but lie to each other all along. They have lied so much about so many things they don't know what the truth is about things like, Party Gate through Covid corruption, Brexit, the economy, public services, the military, housing, social services, the NHS you name it they have lied about it all. We have a very similar problem with our Tory fantasy spinner, she reckons they are building a new hospital in the town, sending out flyers to that effect and yet they have so hollowed out our current hospital that the contractors working there are objecting to the NHS sign still being in place, they want to plaster the walls with advertising slogans for their companies but that also want the NHS to pay for that, does she care, does she even understand what is going on. trying to ask her is impossible because she will not answer questions. All she will do is continue to make spurious statements about a new hospital in the same way she made such statements about a ring-fenced £84 million to complete the last section of the A27 bypass which also evaporated never to be built but the money, now that's another story, were did that go, it was set aside from local taxes but just like the bypass also seems to have evaporated ask her where it went and all you get is silence. Can you trust a Tory, check your pension and then ask yourself the same question, some very rich Tories got a great deal richer out of that little scam.
Wishing you all the best, South Devon. I'm in East Devon and we've had a fantastic two years of Lib Dem with Richard Foord, who won the by-election after 'Tractorgate'. He's done more for us than the previous hundred years of Tory misrule and we might sadly lose him due to boundary changes, which has meant more tory voters and it being a very near thing between him and the tory candidate. Let's hope we can all get through this okay. Cheers. :)
Mangnall is not an MP. There are no MPs once an election is called, and Parliament is dissolved. In Mangnall's case, let's make sure to keep it that way and elect an MP for everyone, not one who is beholden to one land owner and has turned his constituency into a "Rotten Borough"
This clip jus surfaced again. The Tory stooge Mangall's remarks have really worn well !! Perhaps given what he says here 8 months ago, could he now comment on how its OK for the Tories to parachute that even bigger stooge Holden into the Billericay seat. Good luck to everybody in South Devon tipping this arrogant clown out
This type of Democracy worked for Von de Leyen when all other candidates backed out and she was 'voted' President of the European Commission Who then go on to 'choose' the members of the ECHR AND THE ECJ.
MP says that people getting together and choosing one candidate to impose on the electorate is undemocratic. Yet he was chosen as a candidate by a group of people getting together to choose him. Also, nobody in the constituency who is not a member of the Conservative Party had any say in May, Johnson, Truss or Sunak becoming Prime Minister - or any other member of the government.
This grifter says he wants a fairer electoral system, but surprise, surprise he only has a “Stop the Tories” policy… Don’t be a FOOL he’s a Labour/Starmer stooge!😂😂😂
There is not one party to vote for. They are all in league with Israel , even Farage is only pushed by the media to give Starmer and co a massive majority to enable the Zionists in the Labour Party to control us from overseas by the U.S and Israel. The public will have no real choice.
The Conservative Party over the past 20 years have eroded our country to such a level, that they can be said to have "Contaminated British Politics". I would like them to not get enough seats at this General Election to for an opposition.
The same is happening in the new constituency Isle of Wight East. This 'East Wight Primary' has now selected the Green candidate, Vix Lowthion, as 'people's champion'. She also beat everyone - Tory included - at the latest hustings exit poll. She is popular and active, and easily the best local candidate, and now we have a clear message to vote Green in this constituency.
Are Labour going to reform our antiquated electoral system? All roads point that way, towards a Labour majority, despite some minor tinkering around the edges... which is what you suggest George
I'm with you, but im listening with a 1000w soundbar and have to max the sound so I can hear you,pls sort yr sound,it's a message that needs hearing, goodluck.
This is a great message. This election is no longer about removing the Conservatives from power; it's about ensuring they're not even the Loyal Opposition. To achieve that, please vote for whoever is best placed to deny the Conservatives a seat; where the Conservatives have no hope of winning, vote for the progressive party most likely to win the second largest number of seats (presumably the Lib. Dems.).
Almost all constituencies have a majority that don't vote for the tories. They've pushed for the obsolete FPTP voting system for decades as a highly effective way of maintaining power
