To me touhou 8 to me feels like what touhou 5 is to pc 98 era, but this is much grander, a wide cast, multiple spellcards, alot of illustrations and music, and "Last Word" that no other game has done
Every year I try to vote in these polls but for some strange reason it just never works for me. That's just my luck I guess. Although, I would probably vote for Sanae, Ichirin, Byakuren, Kanako, Tewi, Aunn and Narumi.
I personally really dislike Seigas theme from Touhou 12. It sounds like very stereotypical boss music in my opinion. The stsge theme however, Desire Drive, is an absolute masterpiece
now i know that my favorite spellcard, hourai elixir, was literally supposed to be one of the last ones ever... it makes sense why it would slap so hard
IN for me was incredibly atmospheric. The stakes weren't incredibly high but the people we were dealing with were extremely powerful, their music themes reflect that.
Imperishable Night has some of the funniest character interactions especially Marisa and Alice, we definitely need more Touhou games with partners again
While my first touhou game wasn't IN, it was my first 1cc, and lunatic 1cc! Everything about this game is amazing, and you could tell ZUN wanted to go out with a bang just by listening to the last word theme music. This game holds a place in my heart it was so incredible playing it. Happy imperishable night.
IN literally has Mokou, one of, if not my favorite character in all of Touhou's entire existence. When I was voting for favorite characters in the TohoVote website, my comments about each character were way too big for the character limit, and I'm sure Mokou had the biggest wall of text ever. I'm pretty sure that even if Touhou 8 was ZUN's actual last solo Touhou game, most of its characters would remain fleshed out enough to be great characters, including Mokou, Eirin, Reisen and Kaguya (even if I personally don't like the latter, I'll admit she has quite the cool backstory). After my first IN 1cc with the Netherworld Team, all the other 1cc runs somehow became easier. Maybe it's because IN is already a naturally easier. Maybe because I was extra motivated now that I had thee runs done. I'm sure it's a combination of all above. I love Touhou 8.
I've always seen Touhou 8 as the magnum opus of Touhou as a series. Even though Touhou 9 is my favorite Touhou game for it's multiplayer aspect, Touhou 8 is the perfect Touhou experience in my eyes (and is my 2nd favorite Touhou game).
Crazy to think we're how many dozen of games in this franchise and yet IN was designed as a kind of last hurrah, celebrating all of the franchise in one grand ambitious display. This is my favourite Touhou game because it just does everything amazingly, music, characters, gameplay, this game is amazing. And it's telling how appealing this is to such a wide audience, like obviously there's how many references it has for old players, including those of PC-98 but I'm surprised how much this game clicks if you're a relative newcomer. I'm pretty sure it was IN lore that got me to actually try playing the games (I thought Mokou's design, music and story were super cool), I started with the windows games in order and IN was defo the point where I came to appreciate what the franchise offered (this was around LolK era, ironically enough). Also I don't know this for certain (so pls correct me if I'm being silly) but isn't this the first time Theme of Eastern story is explicitly included in the opening? I know EoSD kind of has it at the beginning of it's theme, I'm less familiar with PCB or Pc-98 stuff. If it is that's another cool detail considering it ended up being cut from the very first game and is only included as an extra. If not, well it's nice of ZUN to have (almost) ended with a defining theme he hadn't originally used.
Until now I played only from 6 to 13 (also 1, 19 and some other spin-offs) but Touhou 8 still is my favorite, although I love them all! Amazing game in every aspect like you pointed out, I always felt like this is the most complete Touhou game until now and it excels in everything it does.
Amazing video! I agree on every well constructed point You made... except only thing i would still not omit to mention are the themes Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke and retribution for imperishable night, probably my most listened to tracks of touhou. Such an amazing game
I love tohou 8, it isn't the first one I played, but it's the first one I completed in 1cc and defeated the extra stage (losing all my lives and bombs and with a horrible score) and my favorite character is there too
An incredible full package of a game with enough content to keep you playing well past your first 1CC, incredible music and atmosphere, and an introduction to one of my favorite characters in the series, Kaguya!
This is exactly why Touhou 8 is my favorite. It encapsules EVERYTHING that Zun learned and did, and put it in one single game. No wonder this was one of the few games where he struggled to put everything he wanted to do :D
@@whyinds there were times when I only needed like fifteen seconds of footage but ended up recording like an hour’s worth just because there was so much to do lol (ex. “Oh if I need Reimu Yukari dialogue, maybe I’ll do my full Yukari solo run!”)
@@Megapig9001 God I can imagine lol. I also like the small details on the game like Youmu's human bar only going up to 50%, being able to choose the ending after multiple playthroughs, and being able to save "time" by beating the boss's special spell card, helping you on the very final spell cards if you tend to screw up there. It just all comes together to make the game much more fun and interesting, and I'm still surprised how much zun was able to fit!
She's actually already in a pretty high place. It takes a ton of votes to move people up and down that high up. idk why she'd need publicity. Zun loves her, she's well used in manga and games and has plenty of fans. Not to say its not great to hear enthusiasm from another Mamizou fan, i just think she's already pretty popular.
I have Asperger's and I haven't really experienced much of Touhou, but from what I read about her, I relate to Sumireko a lot. I am unsure if I see her as also having Asperger's, but I can certainly relate to her general feel of someone that really wishes for the Supernatural to be real. If I could, I would go to Gensokyō in a heartbeat, even if it would likely kill me.
