I am honestly so lucky that I never shipped myself with anyone. (Really I think I’m somewhere on the aromantic spectrum but that’s neither here nor there) that would’ve lead to some cringe 😬 art
I swear the TikTok “art community” must consist either of hypocrites or people who have never tried art. My style has changed so much because you aren’t immediately amazing at trying a new style. Hope cassy pillars okay
‘Art Regression’ is just such a petty topic sometimes. If the new style makes them happy then so be it, let them be happy, it’s their journey and growth. Even if the old art is seen as ‘better’ the new one has more love put into it, that’s what some love about it, So people shouldn’t be getting hurt over someone else’s art journey.
if its improvement in the artists eyes, then thats what matters, no? i honestly really like their new art, and if the artist is happy with it then thats just even better
I’ve been around these parts for awhile and I’ve said this before but it really is looking like the art tiktok scene is just kinda repeating a lotta the toxic habits early to mid 2010s da circles used to have (namely da ranting ones but that was more of a mid 2010s thing) which is a shame to see but honestly kinda repeating a lotta the problems that popped up in 2010s net days seems to be a common trend in general with tiktok and not even just involving the art sphere. It’s a shame to see cattypiller get caught up in all this cause honestly I genuinely see a lotta improvement from their 2023 piece to their 2024 redraw! So I wouldn’t even call it a regression. Listen I have been lurking the net since 2010 at the age of eleven and I’ve seen randos expecting perfect work from artists of all types for probably a decade now (not even just illustration based artists, don’t even get me started on how I’ve seen writers been treated over the years) and all I can say is, if they don’t have anything constructive or insightful to add and their feedback is just toxic dribble, they really aren’t worth listening too. Stay strong kiddos the nets a unforgiving place but honestly you’re probably a lot tougher then if.
it is okay to: enjoy or even prefer the previous art style it is ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY to: ATTACK AN ARTIST FOR *THEIR* ART STYLE DEVELOPING IN A WAY *THEY* LIKE
This reminds me a bit of the time when I experimented with lineless art, none of the pieces had been turning out the way I wanted, but I still made more than one before coming to the conclusion that I wasn’t even enjoying the process of making them and switching back to my regular art. Sure, it technically went nowhere, but it was important for me to learn what I enjoyed making.
IM SO GLAD SEEING SOMEONE TALK ABOUT CASSY 😭😭 they were one of my mutuals and i just adored their art, they are so genuinley sweet and kind, it’s insane.
Really nice to see Cassypillar get so much support. Everyone with real taste in art knows it’s a horrible thing to do to harass a 16-year-old. Young artists have dreams of being great and improvement is a gradual road, it’s better to appreciate and support their growth rather than suppress them with demoralising insults. But sadly, the TikTok community is like a hydra; if you call one incident out, more horrible incidents like it will happen soon after. I am so glad that TikTok is banned in my home country, but as someone who was traumatised from being bullied at school I can understand the pain that many other victims like Cassy have gone through. Personally I think Cassy’s new art style deserves a lot of commendation. The lines are tidier, the facial expressions are clearer and the simplification looks comfortable to watch. I wish them nothing but the best of luck and that nothing will stop them from improving even more! ❤
@@octoinkz I'm sorry I don't rlly understand the concept of black washing much but she said that she fixed it and just changed the race of the character (I'm also Asian qwq)
@@mcDoYanfei ahhh that’s ok! Here’s an explanation between “blackwashing” and whitewashing. Blackwashing isn’t an issue because compared to a lot of other ethnic groups representation in media can be space, so many people of color like to insert their own ethnicity into characters for fun or as a redesign spin on things. Where whitewashing is more malicious due to making a character who is a person of color white, it is taking away representation. Which is harmful and disrespectful. Blackwashing was a term that people use to make fun of people who change a non person of color to a person of color, where it’s just a redesign. I hope this was helpful!
Personally, I do like the old one better, but you know what? It’s not my art. I don’t get a say in it, it doesn’t affect me, and they in no way deserve to be attacked for it, if they enjoy it, then that’s literally all that matters. It doesn’t hurt me or anyone else so people need to just let this artist enjoy their art.
If you take a closer look the new art has lots of improvement: 1. The clothes is much more detailed and has more volume in its fabric 2. The nose is more detailed (at least to me), and the face shape is more unique 3. The pose is more dynamic and expressive 4. The volume and shape of the hair is more clear I think the thing that is throwing people off is the less drastic shading, which makes the image look a tad bit less rendered than the first. But shading or not, the second is a clear improvement
I'm not a fan of the art, but its kinda whatever. My problem is the people defending it like "FINALLY some representation!!1!1" like any popular artist have been _allowed_ to redesign a group as skinny white chicks in years.
Yeah tiktok art community sucks lowkey got bullied by this one person for drawing a fat person WHICH LIKE other body types exist guys! It helps make your characters not look all the same but no they gotta complain about same face syndrome and how your ocs have the same body type but as soon as you make one one pound over the beauty standerned they'll immediately complain over that instead
Right now, I'm just telling myself that my art isn't looking very good right now, but you told me that making bad drawings is just okay. As someone who is a teenager, I should feel good about myself for making really bad pen doodles.
I agree with this like my style from 2022 is supee diffrent form my style now and my style form early 2023 is like a weird mix of the 2 and i thibk there new art is a bug improvement it looks super good i say
4:21 i think of art like.. an art competition, i always think like that cause if i do i think of when im a bit more better. I can redraw my art pieces like that just like you had done within these speed paints. This is my opinion, and its not meant to be hate and its not suppose to be hate!!
off-topic (sorry for going off-topic lol), but your art in the background is so pretty!! :0 also cassypillar’s art change isn’t bad, I don’t get why they’re getting so much hate :[
I used to have a very realistic and cartoony mix of an art style. By far that one has got me the most praise. But it wasn't for me. I switched to overly cartoony and stylized characters, and was told I had "regressed" , even though ive never been more comfortable and happy with my art. Art isn't for anyone. It's for YOU.
DUDEEE. I did too!!! I had more realistic proportions but i just wasn’t happy with my style [ well proportions style of course ], so i made it more compact n toony, and now im happy with my art - and while i sometimes think i’ve regressed - like you said , art isn’t for anyone at it’s core it’s for you ^^
People need to realize art is subjective, its beauty is within its holder. You cannot call something art regression unless you painted it, and you can't call it an improvement either unless the Creator agrees.
