Inserts probably don't matter, but I really prefer the feel of a white hot putter. That gives me more confidence so that helps. I've also noticed that heavier putters stay on line during the backswing more than a lighter putter.
I have LAB putters and one Allan putter. I keep detailed stats on my putting and while it is early I have to say that my preference between the two brands is for the Allan, and the stats seem to bear this out. I am not wild about the grip on it and I'm wondering if I change the grip does this change the dynamics of the target balance? I also know that I haven't had enough time using the putter to say definitely which I find better. And I know that I am talking about my own experience and preferences. Others may have different experiences. But thanks for this review, it was a very good treatise on the subject. I don't have a Honu putter so can't compare it.
I essentially did the same thing with my existing SeeMore blade putter. It started as face balanced. I was inconsistent with it, partly due to light weight. I added 3/4 oz to the hollow back, both heal and toe, which helped some. Not being satisfied with my consistency I moved the toe weight to the heel and added another half ounce. This provides sufficient head weight for stability and makes the heel hang which has helped me keep the face on line more consistently. I am putting more long puts within 3 feet and have even holed several between 20 and 40 feet.
I just got a cleveland HB soft 10.5 and i think its wonderful. Reasoably priced, i get along with it pretty well and it looks great. Id love to see a review of that line of putters
@@simmi352 I think those are great. That is the biggest point and advantage of weight distribution to the heel and toe as far as possible. It helps maintain consistent distance when you don’t hit the ball dead in the sweet spot thank you.
I also use a Honu putter, I have found that putting from just off the green with the Honu is difficult so I now use an old Ping B60 for those shots. Since I currently only carry 12 clubs (driver, 5 wood 4&5 hybrids, 6-GW, SW and Honu) adding the B60 was no issue and the results were over 2 strokes less per round. Thanks for this putting tip will use and hope to lower my score even more. At my age 76, getting on greens in regulation has diminished over the years. This change lowerd my index from 12.9 to 10.8.
I wonder why we see less break than there is? Is there something mental that's stopping us from seeing the break? You would think statistically some people would read too much, and some too little. But, we all see too little...it's weird
Great advise. Guilty as charged. Having not lived in Vegas in nearly 15 yrs, I'm astonished how God awful smoggy it's gotten. 😔 I have a Honu too. That new putter you're showing is a real piece of artwork.
funny the way you're going fo the water stream to cross (making you wet then) instead of going around... :) hope you won't have the same reflex in case of real danger ;)
Not ready to spend the money yet. When I finish the online courses, I'll reevaluate my blade. Quite comfortable with it. In the meantime, can I adjust the weighted inserts in the toe and and heel, to get a more stable face? Thanks
@@chgodave adding weight to the heel and tool will give you a higher MOI or moment of inertia, which will feel more stable on off-center hits, but it will not be any more stable just before and at impact, which is when it matters most
My objective (on makeable putts) is to always hit a dying putt that comes into the hole from the high side. Whether I can control the line and speed so well is another matter. But gravity is your friend when the putt is on the high side and dying. BTW, a famous Tiger Woods quote is "Some days the putts fall, some days they don't."
So I saw about 3 years ago that you made a video that cites a study that concluded that alignment marks on balls actually cost strokes. Not sure I believed the study, but that was its conclusion. Here you seem to be advocating for something a bit different, an alignment aid for your stroke (which at the end you indicate could be done with a ball marker, etc.). So in the three years have your thoughts changed, or am I missing the point of this video?
@@jlr5003 my thoughts have changed on that. That study concluded that using a line caused people to focus more on the line than the speed and distance control and so people were leaving Putts short. It turns out that the same organization has done a new study and concluded the line helps a little bit, but it helps less the further, the putt is away from the hole
@@misteroneputt Now the conclusion of the new study I can understand. The farther you get away, the more difficult the green is to read and you start getting double breaks and such. Most average golfers (and certainly me) probably wouldn't be able to read the green perfectly and I suspect distance control becomes more important. Not that choosing a good line to get you close isn't.
Great video exposing the BS that manufacturers pump. I play a Ben Sayers groove sole blade, balance and feel is superb. I'm 68 and it's at least 1 year older than I am - you should do a review on them. Lost available on eBay.
Mister One Putt - thanks so much for the shout out for our product, Putt Line. Appreciate everything you do to improve our game and simplify the solutions for so many of the frustrations on the green that we all experience ! Putt Line Golf team.
Understand. And I can do a live demo of Tour Read but it would be a silent movie. I have an agreement with Tour Read not to share their on course method on RU-vid. I get that people don't like that, but if I give away the secrets on a RU-vid video, he won't sell his app and product and he invested in that and created it so he deserves to earn from it. In my online course on Green Reading I do teach 8 different methods of green reading along with tons of other teach on green reading and speed control...over 50 video lessons. johnevans.graphy.com
Great video John. To slightly change the topic I'm thinking about getting an arm lock putter which Bryson and others hit very well .Have you done any videos on this ??
I tried this today, one of many many RU-vid tips, BUT this one really worked! I played today without a three putt and before the end of the round, I was only thinking of pace over the ball. What a good thing to feel!
Been using string line for years to improve aim and start line, easy and inexpensive and everybody can improve their putting, but they have to work on it
What a perfect practice facility to work on ones concentration. Construction trucks, loud music, high temperatures and thousands of cars whizzing by. 😂 Thanks for the ideas
I was ALWAYS lousy at putting... the worst part of my hardly great (in general) golf game. Practice did not seem to help, and I went through a variety of putter shapes / designs over the years that also did not help. Additionally, the insane idea of spending $100 for a putter when my entire bag of clubs only cost $200. -- this was in the 1970's and 80's. -- seemed ludicrous to me. But late in life, I finally broke down and bought a strange looking, used Odyssey putter at a golf shop. As demonstrated in your video, it was almost impossible for this horseshoe shaped thing to swing off-line. With a SuperStroker, oversized grip to help eliminate my hands from the putting stroke, finally at age 77, I am a confident putter. A bit too late to really benefit me, I do LOVE going to the practice greens now and listening to that beautiful sound of golf ball rolling into a cup ! Sweet music to these old ears... Funny how things work some times -- better late than never. 😊😊
@@Fredemmerson no. PXG used a totally different approach to get to this and their putter is not lie angle, balanced it achieves zero torque through another method.
I'm a big fan of your channel. Have you tried the Stack putting app before? I started using it a few weeks ago and have had good on-course results so far. Curious if you had any thoughts on it.
I have thousands of slow motion videos from face impact. I tested 32 different face materials and grove designs to develop a face that promotes more forward roll and less skip. I tested this against all the big brands. I can tell you that you are in fact wrong. I have also tested lots of brands with my robot putter arm and can tell you that on heel 20mm centre and toe 20mm strikes the putter you have has a massive difference in the total length and direction of the putt. Scope Putters was the best in this testing and the LAB Mez was the worst with a shocking result from heel strikes.
Now let’s try the same test with the ball making contact 1/4” at a time toward the heal then toward the toe of the putter. Guess what? It will open and close just like any other putter. With this type of balance I am going to guess it has to be dead center. I believe most putting issue’s with most higher hcp players Has to do with allot other factors and putter twisting included but may not be the biggest issue.,
You are right that most high handicappers have other issues. With regards to hitting on the heel or toe...certainly any putter will open or close when you hit it on the heel or toe. The ONLY thing that happens with a heel or toe strike is that the ball travels less distance. Slo motion video studies have proven that striking putts on the heel or toe does not cause putts to roll off line because the ball has almost zero dwell time on the putter face ...In other words the ball is gone before the heel or toe impact twists the face off line. Additionally putters balanced like the PXG Allan, Honu or LAB have been shown to roll more consistent speed and distance when struck on heel or toe
As a L.A.B. user I am told that the issue with the PXG Allen, and some others, is that they are not balanced beyond the +/- 2* of lie angle they offer. If for instance you need a 67* lie angle the science will no longer work the same. Otherwise, the tech is likely to transcend putting.
You’re correct about that with the lie angle. There also is a limited range for the putter weight. It will not perform as advertised above 380 grams or below 350. Those numbers may not be exactly right, but it’s a small range like that.
