I just starting working up loads for my new custom build with a Bartlein 1-9 twist 22 inch barrel. Looking for the 140-162 grain class bullets. Have you testing anything lighter? I was using 6.5 StaBall and didnt have good results. I switched up to H4350 to give it a go, but haven't made it out to the range yet.
Did I miss it, what is your rifle and what is the twist ? I believe I heard an 18" 1/8 twist. I highly recommend you get a Hornady Comparator and take a closer look at just how you resize your brass.
For my loads I did the same and bought 1,000 rounds Starline brass. I was tired of the inconsistent results using recycled brass. This way I could establish a good baseline and it's worked out very well.
Not intending to cast shade here, but a tip that would help you shoot, having noticed you did the opposite of what you stated you were intending to do. You adjusted and rebuilt you position for each shot, but there's no "good preload on the bipod", as it is free to slide forward every time on your mat. You need feet that dig and to put it off the front to dig into the ground to make preload possible. Any pressure on the butt just slid the feet forward with ZERO preload. I'm interested in trying the UPR rifle. Thanks for the display.
Jesus Christ a Ar15 is more than capable at long range! Get your shit together get comfortable with your quality scope and get your ballistics right. There should be no problem punching out to 1000yds
@ErikCortina has a great video series out about not chasing the lands. Essentially he makes a dummy round, chambers it and allows the bullet to seat itself. He calls this “jam.” He says some may refer to it as “touch.” Then he subtracts 0.020 from that and that’s his seating depth. If he wants to find a node he shortens seating depth from there, hence one is never chasing the lands as the lands is a moving target… this extends barrel life and saves a lot of time and money. Just thought I’d spread the good news although unsolicited 🎉
I get 2700fps from a 20" gas gun, with 29g leverevolution 107g SMK. Hornady load data states 29.7g is max. However, I believe hornady over charges their ammunition. they put 30.2 g of powder in their factory 108 loads. Factory 108 loads in my gun are 2750fps and they shoot like shit. The throat in my chamber seems to be long, I have to load to mag length to get decent groups.
If you took nothing else from this wonderful clip, take THIS! >>> 8:24 UNDERSTAND what you do so you can do it right with MINIMAL kit. Afterall you ain't there to show off something/anything! Peace.
In my experience, using the same zoom of 16x (for example) on a 6-26x is way better than in a 4-16x, witch'd be on the maximum light that the glass can give you
Work your own data, but 28.2 of 2000mr is awesome with 53 vmax in my guns!! H335 Isnt bad either, followed by benchmark. Ive got 50's & 53's loaded up for pfogs in 2 weeks! 2000mr is also awesome in my valkyries with 50's & 53's. Power pro varmint is better but havent seen that powder in well over a year!!??
