Sorry for the delayed reply. The magnum is airworthy not long after this video. I lost a lot of footage and I’m still trying to recover what I can for videos. I have flown it! Unfortunately, I moved from Washington to Fort Worth Texas and I haven’t been able to find hangar space for my airplane. So it sits in Washington state… haven’t flown in 1.5 years…. I’m trying hard to find a place for my airplane as well as get caught up on videos. Life is very busy right now.
Lost some footage. Found some footage. Change a career, moved halfway across the country, and got really busy! I’m slowly working on a new video but more concerned with finding a place for my airplane. I haven’t given up!
We got it airworthy a few months after this video. I lost a ton of video footage but just recently found some of it. I moved to Texas a little over a year ago and I’m still trying to find hangar space down here. The airplane is up in Washington state still. My mentor does a run up every so often but I need to get it down here… when I get a chance, I’ll try to put some more videos together, life has just gotten very busy
@@garybucher6824 I sure hope so. I really miss the weekends at the airport, working on the airplane, and the connection with the aviation community. Spent a good chunk of this weekend trying to find somewhere for my airplane. Now on at least 5 waiting lists not including the calls I have made before.
@Chanselor ouch, I've heard it's hard to find a hangar down there. You might want to figure out how to take advantage of those folding wings for a while?
Keep the videos coming. I just brought home an Avid Magnum today. Bought it from a guy who started on it years ago and never finished it. I hope to start working on it in a month or so.

It appears that you are using the Stewart System? I have the lower keel wooden stringer, and I am skinning the tail section mid-fuselage to the tail post. Great video! Thank you.
@@Chanselor GREAT! i have always liked the magnum almost bought one when they were new i think i still have the VHS video talking about the magnum before they rolled it out> have a vhs for kitfox also and others ! i guess im hooked? or to muck 100LL when it was still good for you. LOL! (LEAD POISONING)
Absolutely going to be careful! Always nervous when I hand prop, so I make sure to follow what I have been taught. As for what is in the box, good guess! I intend on making a carbon fiber dash in the future, but, that isn’t what’s in the box! The next video shows it. Hint, it goes around really fast
In the Navy, we called this danger nut. Put a nut about that large on a screwdriver and spin it about twice as fast (200+ PSI), then drop the nut on the ground and hope to god you're not in its ricocheting path.

I also own an Avid Magnum s/n 04 , all Yellow with blue trim and currently set up in a tricycle configuration. Completed in 1994 with 680 hours total time. Mine also has 2 x 14 gallon inboard wing tanks and 2 x 5 gallon wing tip tanks (total 38 gal). Same engine as yours 0320 160 hp. Groove landing gear. Empty weight = 950 lbs, gross weight = 1750lbs. Useful load = 800lbs.
Yeah I made a mistake on the video on the useful load. Hey I have a question for you: I know you have a tricycle configuration but I was wondering if you knew anything about the bungee landing gear for the tail wheel. I have been trying to find info on that such as diameter and length.
@@plane-fuzz oops. Didn’t mean to say tail wheel. I mean the mains. The bungee for the mains. I have tried to find that on the forum but haven’t been able to find anything for the magnum
Haven’t measured hp gains but I certainly notice a difference. I bought it off of Amazon and changed all of the hose claps to stronger clamps as a pull form a start would pop those clamps
@@Chanselor Specifically which clamps did you get? And after using them have you noticed any issues? I have the exact same year and looking to do the same.
@@davidrteran The kit comes with some basic hose clamps. I would certianly upgrade them. if you give it full throttle from a stop, one of the hose clamps will disconnect sending air in past your MAF and your car will go into limp mode requiring you to disconnect the battery after fixing the hose clamp. Not too fun on the side of the highway with a pair of pliers!

Hey @Chanselor I have the same STS V with check engine code P0430, I’m guessing these catalytic converters are prone to go bad? It’s just wierd to me they go out
It takes a lot of custom fabrication to get it to work but it can be done. If I were to do it again, I would have made a more extensive list of what parts I needed. I also didn't really have a "schedule" of what I was going to do and when I was going to do it. I just handled things as I noticed them. To answer your question in a more direct way, it was difficult but certainly achievable if you have a lot of desire to get it done.
