Why did my sound in my ears change now its a low whinging the higher one is gone..
@Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing
@Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing 14 часов назад
Tinnitus can change in pitch and intensity for many reasons, but if it occurs after hearing a high-pitch tone, this could be due to relief contrast or residual inhibition. Relief contrast happens when an external sound acts to help minimize the internal tinnitus initially, such as hearing a similar tone to the tinnitus, but then once the external sound stops, the tinnitus changes either to a perceived louder pitch or to a different pitch entirely. This is usually a temporary effect and does not last beyond a few seconds to a few minutes. Residual inhibition is similar in that an external sound can help inhibit or block the tinnitus temporarily, but this effect is also unlikely to last. Both results would indicate neuroplasticity, or flexibility to change the tinnitus perception, which is a good sign that sound therapy could help decrease your awareness of tinnitus.

Will listening it constantly help me habituate tinnitus?
@onedominant
@onedominant 17 дней назад
No change. But, the ringing I hear, while continuous, is not one constant tone. Sometimes, it's like a fax machine, only long tones instead of short, sometimes louder than others, sometimes barely audible. Sometimes, it'll wake me up in the middle of the night, like someone is playing a synthesizer in my head - no song, just random notes and no rhythm, some notes shift abruptly, others slide, there and gone. The sound in this video had absolutely no impact on it.

What is the explanation why it relief the sound in my head?
@Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing
@Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing 11 дней назад
That could be due to either masking or residual inhibition. Masking occurs when you cover-up the tinnitus sound with one that is the same pitch and a slightly louder intensity to the original sound of tinnitus. Masking is typically not effective as a long-term solution because the intensity level has to be constantly increased over time to achieve the same effect, which ends up being irritating to the person experiencing it. Residual inhibition is a temporary decrease of tinnitus after a prolonged acoustic stimulation, and it can last seconds, minutes, or even for days after the stimulation occurs, but it typically does not last indefinitely. Hope this information helps you!

Fun Fact (Although kinda self-explanatory): Your earphones/headphones shouldn't even come close to this volume of sound for an extended period of time. (Unless you want tinnitus aka the high pitched EEEEEEE every second of your life) You should aim to keep it at 70 - 75db or more favorably even less. A general rule to know would be wearing your earphones, adjusting the volume until it's about just a tad bit weaker than the environment around you, or just to the point where you can still hear the people around you. I mean, if you want to go YOLO, guess nothings stopping you🤷‍♀️

Yikes! I just put this together.... I get the same feeling. I feel strong need to get it to shut up and can barely endure the 'pain'. So yeah... shallow conversations... nope

We know that over-protecting our hearing by wearing an earplug full-time will only make the symptoms of tinnitus and hyperacusis worse because of how the perception of sound levels is processed in the brain. That being said, to desensitize you to normal levels of sound (like the clatter of plates) a slow process of reclassifying sounds as "safe" or "neutral" is needed. Listening to a comfortable level of music therapy is also a good idea, as long as it is a pleasant and calming experience. The low-level music should help distract your attention (and brain) away from the tinnitus. Slowly decreasing the amount of time wearing an earplug is a good idea, as well as slowly allowing yourself to hear more of your annoying sounds by reducing the seal of the earplug (i.e., slowly reducing the complete seal the earplug has in the ear canal by small amounts each day/week to allow more sound into the ear.) In contrast, the fast removal of an earplug in a quiet room will most likely result in the perception that the tinnitus is louder. We avoid this by going slowly and by having a contrasting sound in the background (like music) that is comforting for the patient to listen to. Other techniques like deep breathing exercises and progressive muscle relaxation can also help to calm the over-stimulated nervous system that results from these symptoms. Teaching our patients this desensitization process is much easier in person, but I hope some of these ideas might help you!

Trying to find CBT thats specific to this problem isnt easy though. Most CBT is about depression, mental health, anxiety, mood etc. I find it hard to relate the generic CBT to Misophonia as its a dissorder with the way i hear sounds and how it affects me, my mind deals with certain sounds this way, its almost like saying CBT will help change the way people who are colourblind will see colours.

Hello Marcia, thank you for reaching out. The tinnitus examples on our website are for reference purposes and not what we recommend for sound therapy. A better sound therapy would be something that sounds soothing to you, such as an ocean wave or a thunderstorm playing softly in the background throughout much of your day. If you'd like to learn more about tinnitus treatment, please schedule a consultation with one of our tinnitus experts.
