I owned and ran one of these saws extensively for >30 years. I've also owned Stihl, McCullough and Husky saws (have a Husky 460 now) and this saw was the best saw I ever ran. My 925 Homelite was a close second but too heavy. I wish Homelite were still making them like they did in the 1970's. The 046 Stihl was a pretty good saw too.
Great video!! Love the history of all of your videos over the years.. might you be able to do a feature video for a 1-86? Was just in Kalamath California and saw one hanging from the ceiling in a bar. Spoke to one of the locals who was there and a former timber cutter who said he ran one back in the day. Just bought one from Washington state waiting its arrival. I can’t seem to find any related videos with history of this particular saw. Congratulations on your retirement also!
I have an oh 31 that was given to me by my father-in-law many years ago and he has since passed. I’m having the same issue only sometimes my saw won’t start and you’ll catch it with no spark come back two hours later and it’ll start and run. I pull the flywheel off and I don’t have points in condenser, one black C-shaped module that I don’t know is that points in condenser inside of that plastic piece do those fail or could it be the coil?
Hello, The “C” shaped module was notorious for failing. The single tang chip module works great on these saws, here’s where to buy…. MCSS ph. 541-863-5387, ask for the single tang module, recommend by TheChainSawGuy.
Whats the biggest bar this saw can run? One is for sale local to me for a good price, fresh service and chain . But Im looking for something that can run a 24 inch bar

Sorry sir. You failed to give proper camera angles for the throttle & choke linkages. You did not show where the links attach to the carburetor. This video is ok for those who have worked on a lot of saws. I bought this saw and not familiar with this model. Thanks you.
Several differences CP… steel bore , can be bored for over size pistons ,lever decompression, different ac cover, Sp chrome bore upgrades as mentioned above
Just picked one up from my grandpas garage and fixed it up. It was a challenge and a joy to fix it up. Just love the engineering into these small engines. A lot of little quirks in putting it back together but not too bad once you get the knowhow.

I saw something on television about a stihl electric outboard. I'm checking into them but not seeing anything. This video does demonstrate an idea, but a stupid one at that. Too noisy and not much real power. Buying a small horse motor would be a better idea.
This channel is going to save my sanity. Tearing down a 61 now to every nut and bolt. Bald billionair will send me some china parts and hopefully I gotz me enough IQ to reassemble it correctly.
Hi from Oamaru south island New Zealand. My saw is rooted in the fuel primer pump as rubbers degraded. What are the options?. Would you have any idea of replacement parts?. Cheers Carl

I need the rubber grommet that the fuel line goes through in the body of the fuel tank. I cannot find a part number or dimensions of the grommet. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Mine is polished rebuilt all new bearings seals 45 cc rebuilt 6 years a go best saw I ever rebuilt power from hell Riley recommended this saw to port n polish spent 150.00 paid $ 5 .00 at garage sale at 49cc this is light n a powerhouse my top saw!!!!!

You didn’t show any of the prep work required for pressure and vacuum testing so I don’t know how much value this video would be for someone who wants to learn how to do it
I own 3 of these, and 2 of them have the same problem, fuel is coming to the cylinder, as it's supposed to do, and the coil does spark, but the saws won't start, and eventually get drowned after several pulls, I can't understand why, because the plugs are brand new and coils seems okay...
