This mello section has the same issue as most SWAC bands. They can play. But they know very little about pitch, intonation and playing together. They overblow everything and it masks their talent and ability.
People love to say this but no one acknowledges how you need to have good pitch accuracy to even attempt to do something like this. i would actually argue that they are playing together even if these fanfares do need work
The best drumline there BOE….. Easton couldn’t really handle the material, they’ve should’ve dummed it down a lil, LW was just lazy, St. Aug was ok, snares needed a lil work on playing alike….. really all the drum lines needed a lil work on style and playing together.
I know this video is old but ... the "Sudler Trophy" comment was tone deaf. Why? Because no black band has won that award since FAMU in 1985. The Sousa Foundation reeks of racism - Dr. Foster was the only black member of the consortium at the time they won. In all the years since -- Southern, Tennessee State, Jackson State, Norfolk State, somebody should have and could have won that trophy if it wasn't biased. Consider all the other accolades HBCU bands have amassed, yet the Sudler remains "Lily White". If lackluster bands like Western Carolina or Univ. of Alabama could be awarded that trophy then several HBCU's could do far better. For the record, I respect Dr. Foster's legacy and believe FAMU deserved the award, but so do several other HBCU programs to this date.🤔
Not a fan of BCU 's style and old songs. and it really bugs me when bands dance in the stands almost more than they play.. i really hate all the dancing.. you're a band, not a dance team
