So from what I understand, the Lego company adds extra pieces that aren’t needed just to make their sets weigh the proper amount that way the machines always stay calibrated and don’t make mistakes. It’s easy for them to calibrate the bigger pieces but the smaller pieces that don’t weigh much at all, they can’t be safe. They always put an extra.
3:51 They are just customisation for minifigures. I have Ninjago water dragon set were the bone guard was said to be provided with shurikens but they have given blades and swords which u can replace with the shurikens.
I used a tooth brush on mine, some pretty old sets with around 250-400 pieces. Piece by piece, it was a nightmare, they were exposed to dust, i stored them in bags so i can build them one day and display it within an acrilic box or something like that. No way im going to do that process again.
