Good vid Walter as usual - one thing I have noticed about the '68' design - whether its the H&G or Saeco versions....they can vary greatly. Like you show, your H&G 68 is a PB while many but not all are BB designs. I had two Saeco #68s and noticed the newer version (Redding on the mold) had a noticeably smaller bevel AND a smaller meplat. The older 'original' Saeco 68 is probably the absolute best 68 I've had. Saeco as you hsve another vid for -calls their PB version #69. The Saeco #69 also had a smaller meplat than the old design #68. The old Saeco #68 was also the most accurate, possibly by not being able to deform the bases, or at least not easily. I actually sold all my other #68 molds off. I liked the Lee for the output, but that was about it. The Lee 68 is a small almost rounded meplat. for some reason I had feeding issues, possibly due to it being a little longer as you stated - which I was not aware of...
@@leveractiongypsy1848 hiya, LAG. H&G made both the #68 and #130 in PB and BB designs. I have both designs for each. There are numerous clones out there from other manufacturers, but none are exactly the same. 10-4 on the Lee version for quantity. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
@@viejo2a I used to have four 68 design molds, but I'm down to one, the vintage Saeco #68. I'm currently testing trying to determine what 200gr bullet design is the best for ALL of my 45 firearms. Two carbines two pistols. Unfortunately the 68 design can get hung up on the shoulder with some. The one I kept cycles best, the Lee unfortunately was the most trouble. Maybe its the soot build up like you mentioned. I recently got the Accurate 200gr TC plain base and its proving to be a good one too. Also the MP-200-HP is good. I have the Saeco #130 PB in the mix too, which if it cycles reliably will be the largest meplat of them all.
@@leveractiongypsy1848 my 1911’s have less cycling issues than the 68’s. I’ve found that if I cast the 68’s harder, they are more apt to cycle. I think a soft nose on them tends to flatten a bit when it hits the hood, creating more friction right there, whereas a harder alloy seems to help the round ‘nose over’ into battery. I have never had my 1911’s worked on, but I know that would help. But, its not enough of a problem to me to worry about. M for
@@armastiros hello, and thanks for stopping in to my bench! I have not had an issue with the primer arms, but have a good friend who has broken both of his. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
I just ordered a second old style hopper and an assortment of O-rings from Lee. I ordered a new Lee Auto Drum from Midsouth. They have some really good prices. Did not opt for the upgrade kit, which they do carry. I'm not having any issues with the older style locking ring. I've had pretty good success with the Lee Auto Drum and can usually hold about +/- 0.10 gn per throw. For load development, I still stick to my large or small cylinder RCBS Uniflo with the micrometer adjustment. I can hold 0.10 gn repeatability and document my grain throw settings for future loads with a particular propellant. Love Lee products though!
@@macoppoc7560 hiya, Mac. Thanks so much for stopping by. In many ways we fish in the same pond. I love my Uniflows. I also have calibrated my micro’s for various powders and have video on how to do that if you haven’t seen it. My Uni’s are my go-to for small-batch or even load development where I throw-low and trickle up on a beam scale. I get about the same resolution as you with the AutoDrum. I have several on Lee turret tool heads. Mine see the most use on that Lee Classic 4-hole turret press. All fine for range, trigger-time ammo. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
Thanks for the heads up my friend. That worked pretty decent. I use it all the time now. It really clean those up good for you. You’ll have those working and put to good use before long. It’s always a pleasure my friend.👍👍👍👍👍
@@viejo2a I should talk, I found my almost 50 year old S & W pellet gun , broke it down , cleaned and replaced the seals , and it works great. No extra parts left either.🙂
Viejo, I like the way that Super Clean works and its biodegradable. Always leery about spraying cleaner on painted surfaces. That stuff worked good and no damage to the paint. Good stuff.
@@michaeldunn150 hi, Michael. Thanks for stopping by! I’m not sure what I’ll do with this press. I’m leaning toward keeping it to be able to leave one set up for large primer and one for small primer rounds. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
I don’t like this press… It was so innovative when it debuted. I have always viewed it as an inverted turret. The idea of moving Brass Not dies is still revolutionary. I do like how you can prime and remove to verify. I don’t luv the Dillon Powder measure. I do luv that the powder drops in front of the user. ( Why is that exclusive to this press ? ) I was told that every squib & double charge at a local gun club was on a 550. I actually see multiple checks in the operating system on the 550. This might be because I like a turret press. I don’t like this press… I don’t need this press… There was a RU-vidr, Reloading Dude, that bought the BL Version and loved manually putting primers into the primer cup. I would love a 750 body ( bigger) with a Lee Breech Lock system.
Walter, I found that one of those fine wire mesh Tea holder for brewing a single cup of Tea (The one that has a spring loaded double clamshell design) works great for small parts, nut and screws in the sonic cleaner. The one thing about chemical cleaners, I always look at the caustic nature of it before using it on aluminum anodized parts or painted parts before applying it to the idem I'm about to clean. anyway, It's a great series so far how years on non use can set up a nice press into something that is a Old Beater and how to prevent that with some simple maintenance. simple WD-40 on a rag with a wipe down and a light coating mineral oil on the moving parts is all you need. anyway, Again I wrote too much. Peace Walter, keep up the good work and good shooting. - Dave
@@thorsaxe5881 hiya, Dave. Thanks for stopping by! Good idea on the tea leaf cup. I have used other things, but I like your idea better. Somewhere I have a small brass mesh basket that I made a long time ago, but couldn’t find it for the vid, LOL!. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
I got no beef with gun Sig or performance, but gun comes dry as Sahara desert, oil the slides, trigger, cocking mechanism you won’t hear any grinding noise I don’t oil mag just one drop on the spring,if you don’t want or know how just spray it with 3inOne silicone lubricant…
I find this interesting as all get out, much better than unboxing and setting up as there are more details. Do you plan to get any upgrades for it or are you keeping it fully original?
@@infobros Hiya, Info. Thanks so much for that. There’s not a whole lot of upgrades to be done after bringing on the missing OEM parts. There will be an upgrade or two as we put it back together! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
