Going on the covid response... The governments who did the least, are the governments of nations who faired the best. Sure we cant expect governments to never make mistakes. Which is exactly why they should never be making those decisions. If we remember, citizens have a opinion about what the government does. In that way, responsibility for any unseen negative consequences that may arise, gets shared equally by the government and the citizens. History is filled with example, after example of failed states. They never fail because of their citizens. Seems pretty damn simple doesn't it? MacArthur is the most overrated and overpraised general in history. He was awarded the Medal of Honor not for retaking the Philippines, but for losing them. It was a pure PR move to bolster morale. After Pearl Harbor, defense of the Philippines was not going to fare well, but his actions made things worse. Instead of falling back on a well designed plan to focus the defense on the island of Luzon and Manila, he spread out his forces and supplies. This resulted in the US and Philippine soldiers on Bataan not having the food and ammunition they needed to conduct an effective defense. He received notification of the attack on Pearl Harbor by radio, but still, hours after that attack one of the most potent forces available to him, his air force and its B-17s, was caught on the ground and lined up nicely for the Japanese bombers that came in and destroyed it. Then there was the whole issue of retaking the Philippines. This was unnecessary, and would prove costly in American lives, and disastrous for the civilian population, especially the people in Manila, who were the victims of innumerable atrocities by defending Japanese soldiers. Better would have been to bypass the Philippines, and go directly for Japan itself. The forces deployed to the Philippines could have been used to take Iwo Jima an Okinawa long before the Japanese had time to complete their defensive preparations on those islands. The Japanese forces in the Philippines could have been left to rot on the vine, a la those on Rabaul and numerous other islands in the Pacific. By this time Japan's navy was largely toast, and what there was of it was based in the area of Singapore. This force was destroyed in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, but could just as easily been defeated closer to Japan, if it had sailed north to engage the US Navy. There was no military reason to invade the Philippines, only MacArthur's ego. To be fair, he did do well as the de facto ruler of Japan from 1945 until he was removed by President Truman. His Inchon decision was brilliant, but he pushed his luck too far in ignoring intelligence reports about Chinese troops in Korea, and in ignoring the reality of the brutal Korean winter.

What Israel was accused of was: Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(b)(xxv) of the Statute; Wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health contrary to article 8(2)(a)(iii), or cruel treatment as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i); Wilful killing contrary to article 8(2)(a)(i), or Murder as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i); Intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population as a war crime contrary to articles 8(2)(b)(i), or 8(2)(e)(i); Extermination and/or murder contrary to articles 7(1)(b) and 7(1)(a), including in the context of deaths caused by starvation, as a crime against humanity; Persecution as a crime against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(h); Other inhumane acts as crimes against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(k). In other words the indictment covered the entire campaign, including the “Daddy’s Home” bombings, and was also very much genocide in all but name. I am so surprised by the ignorance of Singapore. There is no fight over Ukraine. There has been one nation entering into a protective campaign to stop the genocide against the Russian speaking Ukrainians by the Kiev regime.
