you also made a config for uncharted on the joycons. did you also put and extra gyro activator on the jumt button on theire aswell. as i thought you mentioned in your hydra tutorial that you did this on the tombarider game? this is a neat trick that never occured to me to try out in a 3er person action game like this.
Yeah it just helps with looking around while jumping. I try not to get too crazy with ratchet binds on configs I'm going to share though as it can be disorienting but for a game like Uncharted or the new Tomb Raiders it was fine
Maybe with two different remappers you could do that, but I think controlling the mouse would just end up with one taking over at a time. I've never tried it so not sure
New to steam gyro - I’ve been using the dualsense edge w/ flick stick on some PvE games and loving it. I’m using thermal tap for gyro disable which basically adds a free button. I like how this looks. Do you mind posting your control scheme and model joycons you’re using?
Nice setup, the tape mod on dualsense is a really cool thing and probably what I would use if I used a dualsense too. For my setup I actually just switched off of reWASD and that's why I haven't posted the config with this video like I usually do, but it's posted with my other FINALS videos as well as the control layout. I can't recommend using reWASD anymore though which is why I stopped using it. These Joycon are binbok RGBs and doyoky lumos.
God how i wish the ergonomics of this thing were better. They did listen and added Gyro to the wireless version but sadly there's just way too many things missing for this to be the true Steam Controller replacement.
What's the problem with the ergonomics? I actually find it really comfortable which is why it's become my go-to controller for games like this. The fact it sends m/kb inputs so you can really just hop into games without much messing around helps a lot too
@@directedinput i tried switch controller - to emulate dualshock 4 with ds4windows. Playstation button layout shows But gyro for some reason not working Fortnite works good with ds4win
i still hope that someday your video's get more viewus and gyro aiming becomes more popular. many people still dont believe in the benefits of gyro aiming. i cant understand why this is not more popular. making game profiles is not really that hard. i use almost the same config in every game, wether i use steam or rewasd. i even tried gyro rathecting on joycons and on the alpakka controller. and i also learned flick stick controls. Gyro may not be as accurate as a mouse. (because the friction of a mousepad makes the mouse more accurate) but it is still 100% beter then sticks and aim asssist,
Thanks! As unpopular as it seems right now I really think we are on the upswing for gyro in general. The biggest games out there like COD and fortnite have official gyro support, and I see more gyro creators and comments asking for it every day. At this point it feels like an inevitable path forward, but the real battle is making people try something new compared to what they are used to which will be sticks + AA.
@@directedinput as far as i can see is that theire are 3 big problems. 1 most developers dont implement gyro all that well. 2 most people dont want to make convigs for theire pc shooters 3 most people dont want to try a new control scheme
@@caleasthetic I think aim assist is the big enemy of gyro. Remove that soft-aimbot and people will be forced to use gyro as the only viable way to use a controller, overriding all the other obstacles you've listed
UPDATE June 2024: I cannot recommend using reWASD anymore as it has become known as a cheating program and is being treated as one by developers. It is being blocked or banned in more and more games lately and it's reputation is now known as a cheating program due to people abusing it to get aim assist on mouse or run anti-recoil scripts etc. I recommend people to move over to Steam input for JoyCon Gyro as that is the more user friendly option. I am leaving this video up in case anyone still wants to use it but I would warn against using it if you play multiplayer games at all. The videos on this channel from now on will not have reWASD configs posted with them as I have stopped using the program.
I am trying to use the original joy con with steam input, but notice a noticeable lag when in-game. Did you try using these on steam and do you have this issue with ReWASD?
There is an issue with official nintendo joycon where if the firmware has been updated they can have a laggy gyro, this happens on reWASD or Steam. It is an intermittent issue as in it comes and goes and I think it's related to a power saving type mode. Unfortunately there is no known way to downgrade the firmware
Do you play with Gyro Always On, or button triggered gyro? I notice your camera is not shaky at all despite playing gyro where each little jitter movement of a button press can cause the screen to shake when the sensitivity is set to high. Shoot Trigger looks to be set to L2 (Left trigger) as well, so I imagine that lessens the shakiness as well because the right controller is the one controller the gyro mouse?
I use Gyro On Ratcheting, so default state is off and I use a button to turn it on while it's held. Also the split design of Joycon mean that I don't get the jitter from pressing my fire button since I have that on the left side and the gyro being used is on the right side
@@directedinputthanks, that is so cool. Now I'm inclined to buy a set of joycons myself! 😊 How would you say is the quality of the gyro compared to DualSense or DS4 (Which I use). And are your analogue sticks the stock ones or self modified?
Unfortunately the gyro quality on Joycon is known to be the lowest among all the gyro controllers, I still use them because of the split design but it's definitely a lower quality compared to controllers like the DS4 or dualsense. My sticks are the default ones that come with the binboks
Hello, please tell me how I can calibrate the gyroscope in the Rewasd 7 version, I looked at the documentation, but there is no gyroscope calibration button in the Rewasd 7 version. Thanks in advance for the reply. Controller Doyoky Epoch.
Hey, reWASD calibration is setting them down on a flat surface for a few seconds. You will see the cursor drifting then stop as it calibrates and then you can continue using them. As for the Epoch I'm not sure about firmware updates I think you'll have to contact Doyoky about it
i have a quisten about the razer hydra controller. i got one second hand and i used your great tutorials to make my own config for trepang 2. the controllers work great and your tutorials helped alot. but i have a question about the hydra controller itsellf. when i move the left controller there is something moving inside, is that normal or is theire something loose inside. all the buttons and inputs seem to work fine however. but is theire a way to open up the controller to check if theire is something loose inside?
Yeah they are pretty easy to open up, but if it's functioning fine then it's probably nothing to worry about. My guess is it's the weight inside that came off of the peg it's on (there is a weight inside to make them feel heftier, I used to take mine out just to make them lighter since it has no function other than being a weight). If you want to open it up there is three holes on the back with rubber pieces covering screws. The screws are pretty tiny so you'll need a small screwdriver, once you take those three out you can gently separate the front and back side of the controller. What I used to do is put pressure on the 'fin' part near the bottom of the controller while holding steady the backside of the controller so that it comes apart easy. Do it slowly so you don't pull out any ribbon cables that are connected, but just separating them partly should be enough to see and fix whatever is rattling around inside. Hope that helps
@@directedinput yes this helps alot. i just hope there will be another controller like this in the future. eventhough the range is not that great. if feels a little bettter then just the joycons.
Same but sadly I don't think it's likely as the company behind the Hydra no longer works in gaming. They did run a kickstarter campaign for a wireless Hydra called STEM but unfortunately that never finished development before the company was sold.
@@directedinput i could not find anything on the company being sold. to bad. in your previous comment you mentioned that i could open up the hydra controller be removing the sticking pads that cover the screws. how did you remove them i tried some small plyers but could not seem to remove them easily.
Great video as always! I'm thinking to buy one of these to gyro gaming on pc. I've been playing with my duelsense just for fps gyro gaming but it doesn't feel really ergonomic for myself i love to play with gyro tho. So i would love to try with joycon style controller this time. Would you recommend me one joycon alternative controller? I know you've been telling people gyro qualities are vary so you can't just point one brand or product but what's the most safest one to buy now adays in your opinion?
I have an Epoch but can't really recommend it, personally I find it kind of uncomfortably big and it just has an odd kind of feel to it, especially the shoulder buttons.
@directedinput I just got my alt joycon it's one of copy of the old binbok rgb i believe. and it feels not bad! i thought it'd be worse since my experience with official joycons was pretty bad. cuz of the lag. but it doesn't have that kind of lag for a couple of hours of playing. i like most of part of this product , but its latency isn't that great. i didn't expect this as good as dualsense's input lag altho it's quite slower than i expected. And it has some kinda drags of gyro, a lil bit but it's there. and it does effect for accuracy of aimming. Is there any way that i can reduce its latency or lag? Anyways thank you for your comments and the recommendation! i love it most of part!
Hmm, is it slower like when you move it's delayed before moving on screen? The dualsense has a high polling rate compared to joycon so it will definitely have less lag but what you are experiencing might be unrelated to that and just poor quality of the gyro. Can you check if both sides are the same? The only thing I can recommend to do is try different programs like JoyShockMapper or reWASD and adjust the smoothing values to see if you can get it feeling more responsive. Also try a different bluetooth adapter. Joycon are always more tricky with bluetooth compared to regular controllers due to needing two simultaneous connections. You can also try just connecting one joycon and aiming with that to see if the lag is bluetooth related.
Can you use these on xbox series x? If not what's the next best one. I have the xim nexus gyro controller and the armor x pro gyro adapter for xbox controller. Have you ever tried them out on consoles. Thanks
I don't think there is a way to use these on Xbox, the only way I can think of is using the reWASD bluetooth mode to send it to the xbox but even then I use mouse/keyboard binds so it'd have to be a game that supports mouse and keyboard. I haven't tried those controllers as I don't play on console
4:12 so mobapad m6 hd is ok now? I want her them instead of broken dualsense Or what would you recommend from gyro quality and big hands ergonomics point 🫠
That clip is from when I was reviewing it, I don't use it anymore because of issues I had in my review (drift, mushy triggers and the comfort of the back button) It's hard to recommend anything based on gyro quality as I've found gyro quality even within the same product can vary, but I think the doyoky lumos is probably the safest bet right now for large style joycon.
I use Gyro Ratcheting on the X button (north face button). I use gyro on ratcheting which means default state is off and I hold the button to enable it
I get mine yesterday (the gyro version) and after some hours playing I start to think that it's work better for this kind of game, I was smashed in any fps I tried to play... Anyway it's a interesting piece of hardware. Maybe it works better with diablo like games. What do you think?
Have you checked out the DOYOKY Epoch Game Controller? Been thinking of getting it for the switch, but wondered if it works well for PC use too and if that suffers from gyro drift as well.
Yes, I have an epoch. It works fine on PC and I didn't have any unusual issues with the gyro, it felt the same as the doyoky lumos. I don't use it much because I find it a bit uncomfortable for my hands.
@@directedinputSo its not very noticable i hope. I saw some bad reddits from years ago, assuming its pretty good now. Also are the hall effect models good, the models are quite confusing
The hall effect doyoky lumos have been good in my experience, but yes different brands of joycon can experience different levels of drift and since there are so many it is confusing. I've even experienced differences within the same models, unfortunately there is no guarantee of gyro quality
Honestly it might just be luck of the draw, sometimes I get a lot of interference but mostly it's ok. I think it depends on how many BT devices you have going, for example if your phone is closeby and also communicating or connecting via BT it might introduce issues
Very nice video!! Fortunately they released an updated version that is wireless, has gyroscope and the Function button (Fn) is in the back instead of the right side. Are you going to pick this new version?
I probably will pick one up eventually, the reason I haven't yet is that 1. I heard the gyro in it isn't very good and 2. The games I've ended up using the Shotpad for don't really need it, ie: tactics games and strategy games that I'd rather just use the touchpad for anyway. I also really don't like that they changed one of the backside buttons to the Fn button, because I used all of them and now one is a hardware dedicated button to Fn so I can't remap it to other things.
@@directedinput Yeah, they swapped the Alt and Fn buttons. Considering that Fn is a button that doesn't do anything by itself and that you need to press it together with another button (in order to use it's alternative input), it makes perfect sense that the Fn was set in the rear, where you could use with the middle or ring finger. In any case, now that you mentioned, I've just realised that in this video, you're holding the gamepad like we usually hold a typical gamepad. However, typical gamepad are symmetrical while this gamepad is asymmetrical, so that's a wrong grip. They even posted a RU-vid video called _"The best way to hold the DarkWalker Shotpad keyboard mouse controller"._ By using the correct grip as they show in their video, it's very easy and confortable to press the side buttons. So if you still use the same grip as displayed in this video, I recommend checking out that video. About the gyroscope, I can't comment as my gamepad didn't arrive yet, but I think I read somewhere that it's possible to adjust sensitivity. I'm just not sure if we can do that for the trackpad, the gyroscope or both. If I find out, I will let you know.
I get why they put it back there, but to me those back buttons are high value and it didn't make sense to basically kill one off for the Fn button. Since I customize my controls on PC with reWASD anyway, I could have set one of the back buttons to be a modifier button if I wanted, but now I have no choice and that button is hardware set to be the Fn button so I really can't rebind it or use it for anything other than what they've set it to. That's my main gripe with that decision. I did see that video btw about the grip, and have tried to adjust it so I get more range on the touchpad. In the end I think I just end up going back to the normal grip just because it's more comfortable but again I don't really use this for shooters so maybe that's why. For me this is more a laid back kind of relaxed way to play tactical/strategy games so I'm not really trying to get the most out of the trackpad.
