What a major undertaking. This project was started before last season came to a close. As a local I hear others bemoan the new infrastructure; I say bring it on! There’s always weird bottle neck traffic at the bottom of the mountain and updates were needed. Mammoth is a huge mountain, With better infrastructure it can accommodate MANY visitors without congestion.
Moved to LA area in 1969, and skied Mammoth twice a year from 1977 for the next 35 years. During heavy snow years people would comment "Mammoth has so much snow that you ski down to chair 1" Under Dave McCoy every year brought new changes. Having skied in New England, Colorado, Utah and all of Tahoe, my opinion year over year Mammoth was the best. They consistently groomed most of their runs making it easy for beginners/ intermediates. Being on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. with an 11,000 ft top, Mammoth has drier snow even on warm days, then any other CA. ski resort.
As always, many thanks Snowman for keeping us Mammoth lovers up to date on our favorite ski resort and mountain. I’m 85 years old and first skied Mammoth Mountain when we would have to side step up to chair 1. That was the early sixties and there were only 5 chairs and two T-bars on the whole mountain. I’ve enjoyed your on mountain videos over these many years that you have been providing content to the people that love and care about Mammoth mountain. Thanks again!!!
Those dudes posted up just over the ridge when you crossed to hit Mambo, should find a spot a little lower... you came off hot and could have been bad for a novice skier or boarder.
thanks for the video! do you think the snow that recently fell in areas that aren't being supplemented with man made snow will melt over the next few days?
Thanks for the video of the new lift. It is a lot of hard work and fun building lifts. I remember seeing you around the mountain when I worked there. Retired from lift maintenance in 2014.
Interesting... I posted my first video in December of 2004 using my own server. You Tube as come a long way since they came out in 2005. Ski Ya Later! Snowman
As always thanks for the updates. I have enjoyed your posts going back to the Mammoth Mountain Forum days and only wish Mammoth Mountain had such fantastic facilities back when I skied that truly amazing mountain in the 1960s and 1970s. I also was fortunate to have lived in town for a couple years.
Great video! Did you ride this recently? I thought beach cruiser was closed. I will be very happy if it is open because we are coming up next week and it’s my favorite trail. Thanks for info.
