Wow. This video is TEN years and I've literally just bought a lakota strap, and couldn't be happier about it. This strap is just the best, really soft, well made and built to last a lifetime. Their customer service is also great (worth mentioning - I had forgotten to include the international shipping to canada after paying, they've shipped it anyways. I payed it after of course but it was great to know my strap was already on its way!)

I have a gold tone (open back, CC-50). I wonder if it would be the same thing.

Got one on my Dobro and one on a guitar. I never take it off. No fancy swivels or plastic snaps, did a small mod to add 4 Chicago screws at the headstock to respect the 4 directions and I added a Silver Buffalo skull pin I got at the Charlie Russell Museum 30 years ago. Most comfortable straps I own. One tip, Buffalo leather stretches a bit I bought a bag of orange rubber washers from a home brewery supply that I put over the strap buttons to lock them down.

Best straps I've ever seen or used in 50 short years of playing. They will definitely last a lifetime, and they get better with time! I have one that I've had for over 10 years, and the patina on it is amazing (yep, sweat is good for Bison leather, IMHO). Thanks, Kenny, and happy pickin. Don

I know this video was 8 years ago but it's not necessary to remove the strings to wrap around past the nut. Just loosen them up enough to get strap under. Then tighten up and re- tune.

It is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE that you cannot use a cradle strap on a GoodTime banjo without taking it apart. #FALSE

I have an 6 inch piece of leather shoelace/necklace that loop under the strings. I attach the strap to that. That little bit of slack also gives me the room to hold it a bit more comfortably.

DONT TRUST A MAN ABOUT RESONATORS THAT DONT GOT A RESONATOR. you’re not doing your guitar of any make or model any favors by attaching it at the head stock. To put the weight of the guitar and any additional weight your arms apply in the process of playing puts undue asymmetrical strain on the neck. A resonator is significantly heavier than a regular guitar. Do the right thing and learn how to drill the base of the neck at the body. It will play more comfortably and your neck will thank you after it stops crying about that little hole you drilled.

For the A style mandolins without secondary strap button, there's an issue with the mandolin tending to swing too far to the right because the point at which the strap hangs on the neck is further left (player left/right, not audience left/right). One way to deal with that issue I've found useful is to attach a lute-strap-style extra piece of ribbon to the end of the strap.

Super helpful! I was unsure whether I'd put mine on correctly. I have a braided loop end strap. This video makes it pretty clear for F-style: turn the loop inside out, and as it wraps over the scroll, it will correct itself. Just make sure that you have the strap itself turned so that the frayed side faces downward

Hey I accidentally bought a dobro strap for my guitar is it ok for me to use it or will it damage the strings?
@jirivorobel942
@jirivorobel942 7 лет назад
If you have to remove the strap when storing the instrument, there is something wrong with either the case or the strap. I've made a couple of straps for guitars and banjos myself, it's quite easy to make them so that no metal part will get into contact with the instrument. Lakota straps accomplish this with said ease; bison leather is strong but supple, the only metal parts are the Chicago screws, and they are there to make attaching the strap easier. It's not hard to make a 100% leather strap for anything with a tail pin, but the process of putting it on the instrument could get rather complicated with larger instruments. A banjo strap only needs one fastener, which can be covered and doesn't have to be metal. Even sliding buckles can be made so that nothing harder than leather or fabric will ever touch the instrument. Frankly, everyone in my neck of woods keeps the straps on their instruments; is removing the strap a U.S. thing?

3RD OPTION for A-style: run the loopside of strap under pickgaurd and under the fret board end notch(where neck joins body on top).....simply make the loop around the narrow part of body/neck joint.

These are beautiful straps! I have two, one on my Bishline and the other on my Rickard open back. The Rickard has hardware similar to an Ome with 3/4" between the tension hoop and the bracket. Works perfectly. I love the straps!

I'd have loved to see him try. I don't see how the strap is attached. it's just loosely tucked behind a couple hooks. As far as I can tell it would hit the floor shortly after he stood up. The ends should attach back to the strap with chicago screws, no?
@matthewlewis5616

@@randomdestructn looks like the hook goes through the strap hole..... the downside appears to be that you cannot adjust the strap without disassembly.

Thank you for posting a video to demonstrate the installation. Unfortunately, the screw attachment instruction is done directly behind the neck and it completely obscures your demonstration of attaching the end through the slots and attaching the screws. Would you consider reshooting the video so that what you are doing is visible? Beautiful strap, though. Thank you :-)

A couple of seconds to put on a damn seatbelt and many people can't get that right, maybe they need a video like this in their safety courses. I just bought a $4800.00 Collings F5 mandolin and I think he explained everything well, well enough for me to purchase one from him. Good day mate!
