Thank god for people like you that taking time to show others how to do things thank you for your time and protect the time to do this video.... I just got one of your straps from the pawnshop and love it.... It's better than my mandolin..... Nashville Tennessee
LUV Lakota straps! I have one for my guitar and another for my A mandolin. I use the regular mandolin strap and just put it over the strings at the headstock. Works well and I've never had any issues. Thanks for the vid and thanks to Lakota for the wonderful instrument straps!
I know this video was 8 years ago but it's not necessary to remove the strings to wrap around past the nut. Just loosen them up enough to get strap under. Then tighten up and re- tune.
3RD OPTION for A-style: run the loopside of strap under pickgaurd and under the fret board end notch(where neck joins body on top).....simply make the loop around the narrow part of body/neck joint.
For the A style mandolins without secondary strap button, there's an issue with the mandolin tending to swing too far to the right because the point at which the strap hangs on the neck is further left (player left/right, not audience left/right). One way to deal with that issue I've found useful is to attach a lute-strap-style extra piece of ribbon to the end of the strap.
I have an 6 inch piece of leather shoelace/necklace that loop under the strings. I attach the strap to that. That little bit of slack also gives me the room to hold it a bit more comfortably.
Super helpful! I was unsure whether I'd put mine on correctly. I have a braided loop end strap. This video makes it pretty clear for F-style: turn the loop inside out, and as it wraps over the scroll, it will correct itself. Just make sure that you have the strap itself turned so that the frayed side faces downward
A couple of seconds to put on a damn seatbelt and many people can't get that right, maybe they need a video like this in their safety courses. I just bought a $4800.00 Collings F5 mandolin and I think he explained everything well, well enough for me to purchase one from him. Good day mate!
