ABOUT.
My name is Alistair and I am a plumber by trade, fully qualified and this is going to be my journey of discovery and adventure into owning and renovating an old French Farmhouse, its outbuildings and becoming a French farmer. I will aim to give you good and reasonable property buying advice and once you have secured that dream home I will demonstrate how to complete all that hands on hard work.
Is the pipe your soldering 16 mm. The torch your you are using does not fit the gas bottles in France. I bought a converter to use the gas bottles. It was about £40. I have the code number for that Torch if you need it.
Thank you, it was useful to hear from someone with professional experience! Inexpert onlooker question - is it possible the additional nut on the tap is to allow tightening at the correct orientation, rather than just spinning up to the natural end of the thread or using plumbers tape?
Hello, having been in plumbing and also having worked in the USA, The Bahamas and lots of UK plumbing there is definitely no need for the additional nut as it really serves no purpose
As the vertical elbow only serves as an overflow, you would have made it easier for yourself if you left the joint dry. I would have used a flexible pipe connector instead of the slip joint but appreciate they are a lot more expensive in France than the UK and not always available in local DIY stores.
The last few days I’ve watched all your videos. Well done you it’s looking amazing and I’m looking forwards to the next Keep smiling and sweat it out. Love the attitude
I have undertook the same process and it wasn’t an easy task. Listen pointing the bricks after showcasing the roughness Of the character of the bricks. Good job mister.
The Stonework is beautiful if you take the time to clean it and repoint all the joints with Lime Mortar. Removing the decayed moisture retentive old plaster and pointing makes the house drier and more beautiful filled with old character and well worth the effort
Yeah that was the general idea to remove them from one part of the building and reclaim as many as possible to create another beautiful floor that didn’t look modern when completed
Tou have no electricity in the room, why did you not put it in the floor first & come up between the stone, then put the cement between the stones & then put the floor down
Interesting well done Alistair..Reminds me 20yrs ago doing exactly the same thing on my mums property Sw France dordogne. Mum had a beautiful stone railway cottage. Hard work raking out endless repointing yet very rewarding. Great work Mr 🙏
