I love remote and lonely places. Join this novice as I build my Alaska homestead and hike, camp, fish, hunt and explore the most remote places I can find. My restless soul is sure to find joy in overcoming obstacles, challenges and fear as I begin this new and unknown chapter. Join me in this journey where the only destination is around the next bend, but each step brings adventure and hard won experience. This story isn't about fancy gear, knowing all the answers, never failing or building an expensive home. Instead it is about the power of wild and natural places to fill the human heart.
@@OpenAirAdventure they are amazing. My only regret is that I didn't get any frozen to get me through those long winter days. Definitely won't happen next year
I’d come visit but you would put me to work and all I would want to do is fish. I’m betting those blueberry pancakes tasted better than what you buy at the store.
@FishfearmeStudios I'm getting better at balancing fishing and working when my friends come to visit but I've got a ways to go yet😥 hard to bear free range organic alaska blueberries!
We have a 20 foot container cabin we are currently living in. The plan is to get the shop built and then build a house. It rained 160 inches last year so having the shop will let me build the house mostly indoors and then when we have a nice week I can get it all stood up. We may live in the shop for a while if needed
That would cut up so nicely and look really good! I bet that extra power was sweet, and fishing is an excellent way to end the day. Till the next one, thanks for taking us along
Thanks for coming along. Hard to beat old growth cedar as far as nice wood. I need to do more fishing!! I can't wait to see the 60" pike you catch on that fly
Doing our house project has put our marriage to the test for sure but we’re good😂. I hate working in the rain. It’s literally pouring down rain here I’m sitting in a company truck watching your video.🤷🏻♂️🤣
@fatefarmspa beats working in the rain! It's unavoidable up here but that's why I built the shop so I wouldn't have to do it quite so much. You all made really fast progress on your house. It'll probably take me 2 years to get where you are
Hello, new subscriber here. Just found your channel. Look forward to watching your progress and living vicariously through you. Thank you for taking us along on the journey. All the best to you and your wife.
wanna save alot of frustration? just tell her to design everything and manage the build yer just there to hammer nails and do manual labor stuff. my wifes changed my house build so much its a completely different from the original blueprints. the old addage "happy wife happy life" still applies. my dads laughing at me from the grave lol
@bubbaredneck75 you aren't wrong. Since ive got my shop ill build her whatever she wants for a house. I'm still amazed that she was willing to do this adventure with me so I'll do whatever it takes to keep her happy.
@Charles-xq6mr glad you could stop by. We are really excited about this new adventure. We really don't have any idea where it might lead but we are really enjoying it so far
Haha, I loved the intro. It is easier to ask for forgivenes😅 I was expecting a gust of wind because that's what would happen to me. Ya got your work cut out for ya.
Love the seeing you guys drive on I-90 west to Seattle. I drove through this road for many of my fishing adventures, and the seeing where you guys are on Marginal Way is next to one of my salmon fishing spot at 4:39 on the right side. Anyway, I applaud both of your courage to head to Alaska. I can't wait to see your guys adventures.
The sailboat flipped over, looked like a rental😂. My biggest fear is the day our son grows up and moves out. He’s only two but I know it comes quickly 😢. Cool video still watching 👍
@fatefarmspa it is hard to let them go but that's how we raised them. The sailboat was part of a kid sailing school. I was impressed they knew exactly how to get it back upright
Man that is awesome that you and your wife are taking this new adventure, looks like it’s started off on the wild side lol.. I’ve never seen camping on a barge before, might have to add that to my bucket list just to say I done it🤣 Glad your trip was a success with just the miner lift gate malfunction. Looking forward to seeing more of y’all’s adventures brother!
Heck yeah, that was an excellent watch from beginning to end! Sleeping with that wind looked horrible, but the reward of the sight of the homestead, I am sure, made it all worth it looking forward to episode 2 great to see you back at it
@SlayermikeFishingandMORE I've missed being able to share with my youtube friends. The wind definitely was worse than expected but made it a better adventure. I've got a good but thankfully relatively painless fall coming up in a month or so. Enjoy the fall fishing!
From the title I thought she was insisting you turn around and go back to Utah. I’ve never heard of camping on deck. Glad you didn’t get blown away. I could tell you were in Alaska from the prices on the receipt. Looking forward to part two.
@FishfearmeStudios I was worried she might after the night in the wind...The scary part is that those are the big town prices. The small store in our area is at least a third more. Ouch! Glad to see you've been getting out to some interesting places. Hope the fall bite treats you well. Hard water will be here soon!
Good luck on your new life endeavors!!!! Awesome that you have a supportive wife that sees the world as you do. Congratulations on raising your family first and living your dreams after!!!
@tothemaxxoutdoors4771 it has been so much fun so far. Not easy by any means but lots of fun. I feel crazy lucky for this opportunity and my wife and I have definitely gotten closer
Key word, simple life. Hahaha sleep on the deck they said. It's all part of this experience that you will never forget. Now getting things ready for winter.
@fatefarmspa thanks for checking! all good here. Making great progress. Some videos likely to come out in Sept when I have access to my editing equipment. Hope to catch on everyone's videos then too.
I put my tractor with forks next to the mill and toss good boards on, wasting no time. Scrap gets tossed behind me and moved later. I dont tighten the center post as my supports are 17 feet apart, so easy to cut 16s, or I bring longer ones in from the side and angle it. Ive cut 20 foot stuff before. Much better when my son in law helps...lol. Mines about 20 years old, qn 827. Great machine. The 'weatherboard' attachment is great, several homes around here have my beveled siding. Looks good.
@brokenujoints3811 thanks! I definitely need to get better at waste management. I think most of it will be firewood this winter but cutting it in a jumbled pile will be a pain. Hopefully I don't cut too much 20ft stuff but it is nice to have the option if I need it
