:( I'm sorry for this. I giggled a little bit, but not because i genuinely thought the situation was funny... the ridiculousness of it all. I'm so sorry. Love you hon

I went to the one on Marseille, that one had a few steps to get into the building, but other than that it was all 1 level.

I went to this, and that’s basically what it was. The immersion room was the main attraction, there was coloring for people afterwards. The immersion room was literally it, so I think you did alright no?

If using a wheelchair is easier then walking you need a wheelchair. Walking is so much easier then using a wheelchair for most people.

Yeah, the Van Gogh experience is trash! The only good thing is the VR experience but the 'gallery' is so disappointing, poor quality

That’s such a shame! The Van Gogh exhibit in Atlanta was completely flat and accessible 😢

The venue that I saw it at was a warehouse that was all ground level (I was with both of my grandmas who also have mobility limitations, and they were able to access it all). However, it is absolutely obscene that they charged the full price when the full exhibit was not accessible.

For me I've had a lot of people tell me I was who wasn't doctors so I got nervous about it. I asked my grandmother about it and turns out I was tested twice and it was negative. The reason why I show so many signs is because of PTSD. I do see the harm in having a non medical provider diagnoses but I do agree if you show signs, autistic or not, it's good to try and find steps to help you. I actually appreciate it when someone lets me know "hey I show signs of xyc but not diagnosed yet" because it let's me know that ok I probably should make sure I'm not doing anything to trigger something.

i went to this experience in NYC and a transphobic security guard wouldn't let my friend use the bathroom. also it was not epileptic friendly at all which was so funny considering van gogh himself was epileptic. they were also really ableist in the way they talked about his mental illness. horrible poorly done overpriced tourist trap 🙃

It’s interesting and the layout must change based on location since there was no upstairs when it was in Florida.

I've had chronic pain for decades but after a fall at work a few years ago, i was no longer able to do my job. At one point, the county followed me around secretly and took video of me "being active". Things like taking the dog for short walks, doing some minor errands nearby and doing an art event where i had my paintings for sale. They tried to suggest this was all evidence that i am much more able bodied than i claimed. The thing, i can't sit in bed or on the couch ALL the time! I need to be as active as i can, when i can...and frankly it's not as often as these heartless people implied. Sometimes these activities are very taxing on me but i need to try to do what i can. But just because they see me doing some things, they can't see the pain I'm pushing through or how exhausting it is or how long I have to rest. When i feel bad for "not doing enough", i have to remind myself how much strength and perseverance it takes to do simple things that others take for granted. Other people sometimes have no idea how strong and amazing we are, even if we may look weak and broken to some.

That Van Gogh experience seems awful for everyone even people who aren’t disabled and can walk up stairs like I’d seriously have a better experience watching a documentary at home

Why didnt you ask befote hand if the exhibition was disability friendly, i.e they have lifts. Sorry, but i feel like your just complaining for the sake of a few views. Surely a quick phone call prior, could make you understand wheter it would be suitable for you. If i was a wheelchair user, i woudnt just turn up at a venue or event without calling before hand, and just expecting to share the same experience as people who can walk.

It does state this in the FAQ’s on the website to be fair to them. A lot of buildings in the UK are old and aren’t fully accessible. (and ofc this should be improved, but many buildings here are protected, and can’t be modified/renovated) You’re well aware many places here aren’t wheelchair friendly, so idk why you’d be so shocked when this information was readily available to you online.

That's such a silly thing to say. As if saying that you shouldn't put your glasses on to see because it'll make your eyes lazy. Or you shouldn't put your shoes on to walk outside because it will make you less tolerant to the elements. Or you shouldn't wear safety equipment when rock climbing because it will make you weak. Use whatever works for you to do whatever you need to do! You're not hurting anybody by it, the opposite it's true by having the aid available to take care of yourself better. ❤

Being completely honest with you, you didn’t miss anything upstairs. The “exhibition” is a few projections, prints of Van Gogh pieces (not great quality and stuck on foam board… looks cheap and tacky af) and the labels were wonky. It’s a tourist trap 100%, they should just stick to the projections which are gorgeous and imo the only thing worth seeing

I have FND and NEAD and when used my walking frame in front of the GP for the first time she looked at me like I was being dramatic. I'm getting a wheelchair for days out and my partner is so excited because I might actually have energy to do more than just get somewhere and back ❤

I went to this one it was in Australia, and it was just a really big room with the projectors all over the wall. And then a couple of different side rooms, with some art or other photo opportunities. I think I paid $35 Australian it didn't really feel worth it.

The one in Washington DC was very wheelchair accessible, I don't use one but I saw many ppl who did. The problem I had was the lack of accommodations or warnings for sensory-sensitive ppl. I had a panic attack almost as soon as I stepped in that projector room, and there was a VR experience that would have been SO COOL if you could turn the audio down. It cost extra for me to spend one second with a headset on before realizing I just couldn't handle it.

It should be forbidden to build any sort of experience like this without taking care of access for everyone. Just don't build it then if you don't care about everyone being able to see it.

Ok, not everywhere can reasonably be made accessible but at least give a (heavily) reduced price for disabled visitors that can't access 99% or the exhibit.....
