The Arhoolie Foundation is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and celebration of regional roots music and its makers. By our activities, we seek to broaden public awareness of our diverse music history, support the vitality of living traditions, and reinforce the value and sustainability of community-based cultures.
The Arhoolie Foundation stems from the work of founder Chris Strachwitz and his seminal independent record label Arhoolie Records. Strachwitz has devoted his life to recording and sharing regional music with an emphasis on Blues, Cajun/Zydeco, and Tejano/Norteño. In 2016, Smithsonian Folkways acquired Arhoolie Records and continues to distribute the Arhoolie catalog worldwide. We strive to carry on this legacy.

Each band member seems to know exactly what they came to do, and they do it well. They also have the look of very nice, down- home good people. And the singer makes the stories of the songs come alive. Excellent presentation. Keep up the good work. pd
I've been celebrating my birthday travelling to New Orleans for the last decade. Stumbled across them on Royal Street. And now watch their videos on RU-vid with each passing incarnation. Big fan.
Night slowly falls on New Orleans. The lights switch on silently and mosquitoes 'dance' en masse on vibrating beams of light. Here and there a window is closed, a door opened and... the old jazz slowly comes back to life as the nighttime passes. The past never left, we just couldn't find it. Everyone greets each other, smiles or a fleeting kiss on a warm cheek and although everything has changed, nothing has actually changed. The old music, blues, Dixieland, is still the same. There they sit, on simple chairs in the late heat of the night. Sometimes when a text touches me, I cry. Sometimes when I feel lonely, Erika puts an arm around me with her voice. And Shaye ... If she ever stands at the door and asks me to go with her, I take her hand, close the door behind me and go with her, tenderly smiling ...

I’ve been following them for a few years. My daughter and I were driving north from Florida in April 2023 and took a detour to New Orleans to see Tuba Skinny. First time she heard them, she danced all evening.
I travel to French Quarter Festival every year, and the first thing I do is find where Tuba Skinny is playing. Truly brings joy to my heart. My all time favorite New Orleans band!
