I wouldn't knock the Dacia stepway without trying it, having owned lots of smaller cars it is by far the most sorted as in driver ergonomics and well up there with the Renault equivalents, yes it's cheap and as with all these little cars it's plastic but look at Dacia's market compared to all other small cars.
It’s a non vote winner for them in the next election for sure. The principle of getting people out of cars is sound, but NOT without a decent cheap reliable public transport system which we DON’T have. It’s cheaper to fly to a lot of places in the UK rather than take a train. It’s physically impossible to work my shift pattern using public transport.
PPM essentially traps us in our homes. It's unjust. It's infringes on our very basic of civil liberties. Awful. If they introduce this I'd like to see a capaign that would have the entire country effectively strike and stay at home for a day.
UK I've got one of the one's with the long range battery that's locked to 260miles from what i can work out. Still LFP chemistry cause tesla want me to fully charge the battery once per week to calibrate the mileage and the battery.
I think the european toll system might be the way they do it, possibly on Motorways etc. Of course they could just lob another 10p onto a litre of fuel and hammer public charging a bit more and put a new tax on home charging tariffs
Hopefully the new government will not like being known as the most unpopular government since time began … just depressing so far .., fed up with them already
London ULEZ charge £12.50 per day (and it will soon become a nationwide city charge) plus ppm. They're determined to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
"Things get a little inflated" when the public sector issues contracts - because the private sector typically add on a premium in an attempt to screw over the taxpayer for as much as they can, whilst still getting the contract. Some obviously work together to inflate the cost to the taxpayer.
This is all completely speculative as nothing has been announced by the government. The conditions have not been announced. I understand the worry around it but scaremongering a conspiracy really isn't helpful
It's not scaremongering, I'm trying to calm down the lobby of morons who keep asking for it - was that not clear in the video? I sincerely hope it won't happen.
I think it’s more sinister than that. It’ll be by GPS devices matching vehicles and drivers. EVs are easiest already having, it seems, means of surveillance. Teslas already have this.
As you point out there is no way of of reliably measuring people’s mileage. That’s why I think this is something invented by a certain type of politician and the media. We all know the roads are getting to crowded so I can see the sense because it would reduce car usage. But nobody has come up with a workable of doing this,so if it’s in the budget I will by you a coffee 👍
Nah it's a big no no for Tesla IMO. There's a 5K difference between Seal AWD and Tesla Performance here in Belgium. No brainer. Seal has the better look, very good performances, and the level of equipment is astonishing for the price. The minimalistic look of the interior in a Tesla is not my cup of tea and a boring exterior :-/
Let’s not even go there. This ridiculous folly is no more than another clumsy attempt at control on our movements. Honestly, what will these monsters in charge think of next to limit our movements? This is 15 minute neighbourhoods rolled out.
The easy way to do it is to add it onto the fuel, therefore everyone will have to pay their share and it would be easy to collect as they are already collecting taxes. We are paying far too much tax now, we shouldn’t be paying any more, it’s a bloody disgrace what this lot is doing to the motorists, I.e, normal working people!
Emissions charges can be moved to the fuel types being used, so I don't see an issue there. My guess is there will be a smaller flat rate road tax, then a toll system put on motorways similar to what they have in the U.S. where you have a small box on your windscreen which checks you on and off of the motorway at entries and exits. You could even vary the toll rate depending on emission bands if they really want to go that route. I wouldn't have much of an issue with it as long as they ring fence the money raised for the road system and don't just use it as a cash cow.
There is no way they could roll out the necessary infrastructure across the entire UK road network to make this feasible. FAR easier to just stick it on fuel duty instead - everyone needs to fill up (barring EV's mind you).
If it does happen I'm sure it'll be much lower than 15p but it baffles me why so many want this when they have no idea whatsoever as to how it may work or cost
The government has to recoup the lost revenue on fuel duty, caused by EVs, and the ICE vehicles that are becoming more and more economical by the day. If pay-per-mile is introduced, it has to be at the cost of fuel duty. Fuel duty would need to be cut to match that of electricity or scrapped altogether. You can't have both! PPM would then put EVs and ICE vehicles on a level playing field. Road tax (VED) would then be paid on a sliding scale of pollution caused by each vehicle, as it is now. How much they charge for PPM and how they implement it, I have no idea.
Agree with all your comments - especially auto-wipers and the 19" wheels being gthe ones ot go for. No car is perfect (and eveyrone has unique needs), but there is room for improvement and/or standard features that should be there now (given everyone else is fast catching up) I do think boot-open should be simpler... I haven't yet foudn out how to open the boo from inside easily when seomone is bringin stuff to the car. It should be a button on the door. Locking/unlocking the car form insise is fiddlyh, you have to click a vey small icon on display. For soem people who are claustrophibic this is a big deal... shoudl be a button. Icons on display in general are small/fiddlyh... even in larger type mode icons are still small. I'd like ventialted seats (perhaps massaging as wel, bu mainly venitklated) I don't lke that all colours except white are a BIG premium, as is white interior. All it means is you see White ones everywhere!... which makes it "common". Could do with a light grey interior option imo. Centre console has no proper compartments to organse stuff (you have to buy after-market sliding trays) Boot has no luggage hooks for shopping or dividers Boot cover is annoying... should be roller blind style, and should store under floor. The standard 19" allow wheels aactually look great, but are covered by earo plasitc covers that are not so nice, and don;t cover the wheeel rim, so you still scratch it (unless oyu buy what you id, as I did too)... but I don;t think you shoudl have to... just make a decent looking aero alloy, and forget the trims. No front foglights (unless you get the long-range or performance) Still miss a driverdisplay, but head-up would be a good alternative - it;s crying out for it. Satnav - mixed results.. I don;t think it alwys chooses the fastes route... even tho it is programmes to. good for charge stops/route plannig, but not so much the daily commute. No rear wiper - yes it gets dirty and rain does NOT flow off it... just fit one. If really cannot make THATG must difference ot drag? Efficiency - yes probably best in class, but word is the standard range is software-locked to not use all the battery.. and you can PAY to have it unlocked. Just unlock it for free, for everyone! Premium audio £10/month - really?... on a car of this cost - you don tlget traffic alerts on GPS without premium. Just build it into the price of the lease/purchase, but Tesla a eprobablky paying opeanure for data anyway, so it shoudl be free. Car is slow to unlock when you approach with phone as yourkey. you have to wait for it to wake up, meanwhile Sentry mode is giving you the eye!... and it's telling you to swipe the keycard. It should detect you within 3m range and be ready when you touch door handle. Phantom braking in auto-pilot even on local roads, when ther eis no obstruction. It;s sensing somehting but not sure what. All minor gripes, but do make a difference when yoi live with them every day.
Are they going to fit ANPR cameras to every back lane and country road in the country? I seriously doubt that. Also, using your MOT mileage would not be any use for cars under 3 years old. Whatever system they come up with will just be another kick for the poor ordinary motorist who is taxed every which way. It's not as if the UK roads are fit for purpose and I'm sure this extra tax will never go towards improving them.
They all think we live in London, buses every five minutes, the tube, DLR, etc etc etc…….my wife is a specialist nurse working in dialysis with cancer patients, she travels to work each day 40 mile round trip…….this charging per mile has not really been thought out…….
One goal of a socialist government is to make everyone equal in the sense, is to make them qually poor, except the few the are not affect by it, with a bigger and bigger burden to pay for a state.
You already pay per mile when you buy fuel via tax. Are they wanting to track your routes to figure out exactly how far you travel? IE all a tracking scam. Or, will you be billed this at the pump for expected distance? That is the small detail they dont want you to get into.
Smart meters are already in most houses so not beyond the realms of reality to have a EV charging ability added. The rest put up fuel duty them that use it pay for it.
If they try adding any additional charge onto home EV charging, then many EV owners (me included) would simply use a granny lead, plugged into a standard 3 pin socket to charge overnight. They wouldn't know whether I sat up all night watching TV, keeping myself warm with a 3kw heater, or charged my car. It isn't illegal to keep warm using a 3kw heater, and the electricity that used would go through the meter and be charged at the normal 5% VAT, so how would they know it actually went into he car?
I work in the emergency services in London but couldn’t afford to live there so had to move out and a round journey for me is 160 miles what chance would I have.
What it could really look like is more riots, if not revolution. We British tolerate everything up to a certain point, and then we boil over. Starmer has already shown himself to be a man who hates this country and most of us who live in it -- except the drug dealers he's released from jail and the perverts he failed to prosecute as Director of CPS.
