Hello my friend! My name is Liz and I am a vocal coach, singer/songwriter and performer with muscle tension dysphonia.
On my RU-vid channel you will see videos to help with muscle tension dysphonia, live performances by me and my band, education and anatomy of the voice, vocal technique training, education on mental health and how it affects our voices, education on how to holistically heal and opt out of a culture that rewards constantly achieving, doing, going and stressing. (No wonder our voices are stressed out!).
Join me as I continue my quest to feel good in my mind, body & soul. It is so possible to sing without pain! It is so amazingly possible to navigate a music career that feels good and safe. I believe in you and your beautiful body's natural ability to heal!! Your voice isn't broken, there isn't anything wrong with you and you're not alone. Let's rediscover what it means to sing and live a life that is aligned with our deepest truest selves.

This is lovely. I am an SLP undergrad, as well as a singer for more than 20 years. I have been working on tension for a long time- I have POTS, EDS and was undiagnosed Autistic for 36 years. My mentor for voice is Mary McDonald Klimek, one of the co-creators of the Estill Method and I was referred to her by Hadas Golan at Boston Medical Center. You're right, Boston is wonderful for voice disorders. Mary has taught me so much and helped me, and I have to say this video is right up there with your information! You have a healing spirit. Thank you.

Hey! I had a cough about 3 months ago that really took it out of me and strained my voice. The first time I sung after this I suffered with something I never felt before and it was that my voice went really croaky and and tight and I had to stop singing mid show. I rested for a couple weeks and since then I’ve sung fine at 90% of my shows but occasionally I get the symptoms again and my voice gets all tight and I have to really focus and relax to get it to release. Is this what you experienced? (Note, I went to an ENT. And I have no noduels or growths, only thing they mentioned was that I’m not lengthening the chords as much as I should but said it just looks like a little fatigue)

I haven't been diagnosed, but I think I have this since there's nothing wrong with my larynx or vocal cords. I'm taking medicine for anxiety, and it helps a little, but sometimes my voice is shaky. I've found the massages help me a lot.
@LizBills
@LizBills 10 дней назад
@@claudiavela6990 anxiety can definitely manifest physically in the voice. I would go to another ent and suggest MTD. Speech therapy, vocal lessons, talk therapy can help you to heal. It doesn’t have to be talk therapy it could be somatic work or EMDR or hypnosis or acupuncture. Whatever floats your boat.

Thank you for light at the end of a tunnel 🎉, I am a singer, but find it very difficult to sing after recent thyroid surgery and being diagnosed with MTD, I have gone to a speech therapist (who wasn’t a singer) who wanted to do electrical stimulation on my throat, it was very uncomfortable and I expressed this, she stated there was nothing else she could do. She gave me worksheets to fend for myself and discharged me from therapy. Right now the lessons are a struggle 😅 but I’ll get through it, with daily practice . Again thank you. 😊

THank you so much for this video! It i really really helpful. Still, a have a few questions. Crunches were not really understandable for me, maybe you have a more detailed video with a warm up with crunches for instance? I mean, I am worried about a healthy way to do that. Also, it would be helpful to know more about how these excercises work with registers. I mean, do I have to do mixed voice while shifting between chest and head with an exercise? And which way should it be felt? Mainly, it is very helpful video, I think I'm going to include these in my daily routine. Thank you for this!
@LizBills
@LizBills Месяц назад
@@iambelia hey! I would just skip the crunches if they don’t resonate with you.. you don’t have to do every single anchoring exercise, just pick 1 or the ones that make sense and work for you. As far as registers are concerned, it doesn’t matter if you’re mixing .. or doing chest or head.. these exercises are meant to eliminate strain, tension and or pain. :) so whatever area of your voice you are experiencing this (chest head mix or all) try anchoring. Does this make sense?
