Level up your UX game with vaexperience. Run by Vy Alechnavicius. I'm an award-winning experience design leader, researcher and strategist. In my career I've focused on customer-obsessed experience projects (CX, UX, Product Strategy), complex in nature challenges (big data, machine learning/AI, open data, emerging tech, etc.). To date contributed to billions in measured value for startups, scale-ups and global household name orgs. I've also spent half of my career hiring and maturing highly performing-design teams and orgs. Managing user-centric change and more. This channel is one of the platforms where I attempt to give back to growing and leading experience design professionals.

Get in touch: social links, Design Squad UX community, or email. Note I try to respond to most of the polite and considerate emails, however, given the time constraints, it might take a while (at this point up to 1-2 months). The shorter and more specific the query - the quicker the response!

Please might someone be able to comment on what is meant by discovery vs. evaluative research? Is it 'figuring out what people want before you make anything' vs 'figuring out what people think of the thing you've already made?

This is awesome. Much faster than downloading Bootstrap, copying/pasting a CodePen solution into an HTML prototype and then adjusting a few lines of javascript or CSS.
@patrec7638
@patrec7638 8 дней назад
Definitely an interesting conversation, but to me, it sounds like you are simply trying to replace the pencil and paper (field notes) with AI. "Back in the day", a true UXer would be on location, taking notes and scribbling some prototypes on a piece of paper to get quick feedback from the customer. Now we simply want to make these field notes high fidelity using a computer? Problem solving is at the core of design thinking and it sounds more like a lack of education with the current crop of UXers, rather than attempting to insert AI into the process.

Yes, it’s a thing! And will increasingly become a thing. Look into “Generative UI”. I don’t think it’s taking the form of ground-up code. Instead I think it’s “adapting” to show or hide certain features, functionality, modes, and content. Cool stuff

It seems like a lot of organizations see others getting the value from design, but don’t realize simply having designers isn’t enough to reap the same benefits. The designers have to be the ones making the design decisions. It seems common that Product or someone else is making the design decisions and forcing design to simply executing in Figma. When designers push back, they’re treated as a problem. You’re paying designers to be experts at decision making around design - why not let them do the designing?

If design was so cookie cutter like, it wouldn't be design anymore. I understand why they ask for a perfect portfolio, but rather than that. they need to ask what it takes to design a good portfolio for a particular job role.

This is normal with any new technology, because 95% of people don't really understand it, so it's kind of alien to them. But with time the new technology will be better understood and embraced, especially by the new generations. By the way, in the initial phase of a new technology development, UX is never a concern, the main goal is to make the technology work, to be reliable and accessible. UX always comes later when the technology is proven and mature.
@vaexperience
@vaexperience 22 дня назад
Agree with all, but this: "UX is never a concern, the main goal is to make the technology work, to be reliable and accessible. UX always comes later when the technology is proven and mature." - this is exactly why over 90% of AI or any other emerging tech products fail. We need to stop telling ourselves that this is how it's supposed to be. UX must be involved from get go to shape the tech around actual user needs - that's what UX is and the value it actually provides.
@adoraduca
@adoraduca 22 дня назад
@@vaexperience If we look in the history of technology we will see this pattern over and over again. Failing is inherent in the initial stage of any technology since is part of the exploration. Even the entire field of UX will be completely reimagined, as we are talking about a big technological revolution. How can we think about UX when is so little known about what is possible. AI is still largely uncharted territory, even for the brightest minds in the field, let alone UX designers.

Eventually humans will stop using their brains altogether, letting ai do all the work, are we all gonna end up like zombies I wonder? I can say from my own experience, after just 2 years of using ai to generate code in my everyday work, I’m starting to lose brain cells, for real. Anyone else have this feeling? Or is it just lack of motivation or depression?

Hmm... interesting, but trust is more emotional logic these days, so to quantify fear and lack of trust -- one has to go back to when PC's started hitting corporate world for the first time. People didn't trust them. Same thing with banks going online for the first time. Same emotions now everyone banks online... so its a temporary I DUNNO sort of trust. thing. sort of. ;)

@@vaexperience Yep, when I was in New Zealand in 2001 and from the US. I was amazed they had these ATM/Debit Cards at every store. I was floored they had tech before we started using it in the USA. No one feared it, everyone liked the convenience. In the USA? It was like panic and fear about people forgetting PINS and having too easy access to cash and not balancing their budgets like when we had checkbooks to balance, and news about how checkbook printing companies were going out of business. Panic!!! OMG the horror! ;)

A perspective on titles in UX: While it's often said not to focus too much on titles, it becomes challenging not to when you have extensive experience in UX but are stuck in a lower-paying position within a large corporation. In such cases, the importance of being in the right role is hard to ignore. It's an easier sentiment to express when your compensation aligns with your expertise.

@40:01 agreed. If a person studied design before this “standardization” then you weren’t so much steeped in it. And perhaps I need take a moment and research my Dïeter Rams history, but I believe he was a pivotal point in design and bucked the system. He/they made things better for designers that came after, but all that came before did not necessarily adopt his design thinking immediately. Am I making sense?
